Following the recent battle, the relationship between the two had drawn closer once again. Zhang Xiaoshan whispered into Jiang Man’s ear with a soft voice.
"How could that be enough? I won’t find a lifeti with you enough, I don’t just want you for today, I’ll want you often in the days to co."
"I’m about to get married, where will ’the days to co’ co from?" Jiang Man looked at Zhang Xiaoshan with a sowhat resentful gaze.
Zhang Xiaoshan’s tone suddenly beca sharp and domineering.
"All I’m asking for is half a year’s ti, won’t you even give that?"
His tone began to be filled with anger.
Although Jiang Man appeared cold and aloof, seemingly arrogant and unapproachable in the presence of others, inside she was a very gentle and considerate woman, always thinking of others.
If it weren’t for her nature, she wouldn’t have used her own marriage to ensure her family’s safety.
If she were a bit more selfish, this matter would be much easier to handle.
Upon perceiving Zhang Xiaoshan’s change in mood, Jiang Man’s attitude also softened considerably.
"Although my family isn’t doing very well right now, my dad is still in his position after all. A leaky boat still has three thousand nails holding it together; it will take a while for those people to do anything to my family. I can continue to fight for another half a year, but Little Shan, half a year is all I can give you, any later and I won’t have any options."
"This is the maximum amount of ti I can fight for."
Tears swirled in Jiang Man’s eyes.
Obviously, she didn’t believe that Zhang Xiaoshan could truly grow within half a year to a level that could compete with the Jiang family. To anyone, this seed like a fantastical tale, absolutely impossible.
But, she wanted to give an explanation to her own feelings.
From a young age, she had maintained her purity. Not to ntion being overly intimate with a man, she had never even experienced a tender, innocent romance. Zhang Xiaoshan was not only her first man but also her first love.
She was the lady of the family, burdened with the responsibility of protecting her clan, yet she was also a normal woman.
She also wanted to fight for this affection that had barely begun before being stifled, even if the final outco might be hard to accept. At least then she would have no regrets.
This half year was for Zhang Xiaoshan to fight for, but also for herself.
"Fine, rember your promise. Just wait and see. Half a year. I only need half a year to grow into a towering tree," said Zhang Xiaoshan, looking at Jiang Man with unwavering conviction.
At that mont, Zhang Xiaoshan’s phone rang.
Zhang Xiaoshan glanced at it.
The caller ID showed Luo ili.
Damn it!
A million curses ran through Zhang Xiaoshan’s mind.
Since he had left the Security Bureau last night, he had co straight here with Jiang Man and hadn’t found ti to call ili to assure her he was safe. ili was definitely worried.
But this timing was just too awkward.
Neither too early nor too late, it had to ring at that mont, as if to take Zhang Xiaoshan’s life.
The phone in his hand had beco a ticking ti bomb.
"Who’s calling? Why aren’t you answering?"
Jiang Man, who lay on the bed, looked up at Zhang Xiaoshan with a hint of confusion in her eyes.
There seed to be a touch of anger as well.
Apparently, Jiang Man had beco suspicious.
"Oh..."
Zhang Xiaoshan felt a storm surging inside him, but his expression remained calm. He forced down the apprehension in his heart and casually said,
"Just a prank call, why bother answering it?"
As he spoke, he hung up the call.
But who would have known, ili called again right after.
The jarring ringtone once again filled the room.
Shit!
Zhang Xiaoshan truly felt like smashing his phone to pieces, erasing all traces of it.
He had just persuaded Jiang Man to delay marrying another man and to give him half a year more ti. If Jiang Man discovered at this mont that he was involved with a widow, ambiguously, wouldn’t that be forcing Jiang Man to marry soone else?
That absolutely could not happen.
His face turned slightly pale, which did not escape Jiang Man’s notice.
How could a woman like her fail to see what was going on?
"Don’t tell it’s another prank call?"
Jiang Man looked at Zhang Xiaoshan with a strange expression.
Then she shifted her position from lying down to kneeling.
"Give the phone. I want to see."
Clearly, she had beco suspicious.
This is bad.
Zhang Xiaoshan was dumbfounded.
Now he found himself in a difficult position.
"It really is just a prank call, nothing to see." Zhang Xiaoshan tried to hang up the call again.
But before he could move, Jiang Man stared intently into his eyes with a look that brooked no argunt, a look that was too oppressive.
"If it’s just a prank call, what’s the harm in looking? Give it here. I’ll scold them for you. You know, I even won a national debate championship in college," she said.
Her hand reached out towards Zhang Xiaoshan.
It was like the hand of the Grim Reaper.
Zhang Xiaoshan’s heart raced fearlessly.
To give or not to give, Zhang Xiaoshan froze in place, unsure of what to do.
"Give it here," Jiang Man said, snatching Zhang Xiaoshan’s phone from his hands.
"It’s over."
Zhang Xiaoshan’s heart sank to rock bottom.
