Seeing Li Ya’s expression, Zhang Xiaoshan was very clear that if he told her about spending the night at Ge Xiue’s house, she might very well grab a kitchen knife and go looking for Ge Xiue.
Girls of Li Ya’s age are in their rebellious phase, acting without considering the consequences. She was not soone he could afford to provoke.
He had a flash of inspiration and said to Li Ya,
"I went to the back mountain last night to gather herbs for my sister-in-law."
"Gathering herbs?"
Li Ya clearly didn’t believe him.
"Do you have to go at night to gather herbs?"
Zhang Xiaoshan argued,
"Who told you that I went at night? I went into the mountains yesterday afternoon and encountered a wild animal. I could only wait until dawn to co out."
"Really?"
Li Ya was half-convinced.
Zhang Xiaoshan, however, was emphatic as he assured,
"Of course. Why would I lie to you? My sister-in-law’s eye condition hasn’t been completely cured, she needs dication often, and I will have to go to the mountains frequently in the future."
Li Ya looked at Zhang Xiaoshan with suspicion.
"Then I’ll go ask Sister Xiu."
"Don’t, please."
Zhang Xiaoshan imdiately said,
"Didn’t you just promise ? This matter can only be known by you and , absolutely not a third person."
"This is you going back on your word. How can I tell you anything in the future?"
"But if I don’t go to Sister Xiu for confirmation, how will I know what you’re saying is true?" Clearly, Li Ya was not so easily fooled.
Zhang Xiaoshan showed a look of difficulty and said,
"I kept this matter a secret from my sister-in-law because there are too many wild animals on the back mountain. She really doesn’t want to go into the mountains. We even had a fight over this. Zhang Xiaoshan flipped the argunt and questioned Li Ya,
"Do you just not want to see my sister-in-law get better? Do you want her eyes to go blind?"
"No, I didn’t an that," Li Ya also beca anxious.
But Zhang Xiaoshan was still unrelenting, with an even more serious and fierce expression.
"Forget it, why do I even bother explaining so much to you? If you want to ask, then go ahead, but don’t bla for not warning you. If my sister-in-law refuses to take the dicine I prepare for her and it delays the treatnt of her eyes, then you’ll be my enemy, and I won’t want to see you for the rest of my life."
Saying this, Zhang Xiaoshan turned his back on Li Ya.
Seeing Zhang Xiaoshan angry, Li Ya was instantly cowed; her previously domineering attitude did a complete one-eighty.
"Don’t be angry, Little Shan, I’m sorry, okay? I believe you, isn’t that enough?"
"I knew you weren’t that kind of person; you definitely wouldn’t go looking for those won."
"I apologize to you."
"Please forgive , okay?"
Li Ya moved in front of Zhang Xiaoshan, grabbing his hand and continually apologizing to him.
She was afraid of upsetting her beloved.
"Hmph, do you believe now?"
"I believe, I believe everything Little Shan says," Li Ya nodded repeatedly like a pecking chicken.
Zhang Xiaoshan quietly breathed a sigh of relief inside.
