The island slowly creened into a proper horizontal position as it continued its descent, but Luna was still not able to make it slow down enough, and she knew that it would hit the water with enough force to cause a serious tsunami!
[We've got it!]
Arit's voice ca from the comms as she and all of the superhumans who could fly on the mainland headed straight for the bottom of the island and began to help Luna to slow its descent! With their help, it beca a lot easier for Luna to handle the giant mass, and once it was close enough to the water, they all moved out of the way and allowed it to splash down into the water without any serious incident!
Mark landed on the ground close to where gumi had landed and he released a small sigh as he looked around at all the trees and humans that had fallen to the ground after the Bishop stopped controlling them.
"We did it!"
A voice shouted from his side and Mark turned and took a step back as gumi suddenly jumped up to hug him! Mark was surprised by the hug, but he was even more surprised by the giant smile on gumi's face as she laughed happily. gumi knew that it wasn't going to last, but for that mont, she was glad that she could express herself so well, and she wasn't going to let it go to waste as she raised her sword in the air and released a shout of victory!
They had won the day.
...
The day after the fight, news channels and dia outlets were abuzz with news about what had happened on the island of Oshima.
The scale of battle that happened on that island was beyond anything anyone could have imagined, leaving many to wonder if there was sothing else that was happening behind the scenes. The civilians hadn't been told what sort of anima the superhumans were going to be facing in the tournant, so to them, seeing the Rook and Bishop didn't appear too out of place. The only people who knew for a fact that sothing had gone seriously wrong in the tournant were the organizers who were in charge of making sure that everything went well.
Genshi Naruhito made sure that his office blocked every interview and investigation that the Japanese dia were trying to do into what had happened on that island. People were very curious to know if this was what the Japanese superhuman alliance wanted all along, but with the refusals for an interview, people were left to speculate.
But that didn't an that people didn't enjoy the tournant to its fullest. Right from the very start of the tournant when Mark and gumi went at it on sight, till the end when they partnered up and fought against the enemy that was trying to destroy the island, the entire world was glued to their seats and watching like their lives depended on that mont! It was sothing that no one could begin to describe unless you were there to see it for yourself. The sheer destructive ability and skill that was on display in that fight was beyond normal!
The question of who was the strongest in the world was sothing that people are still arguing about, even today, but whenever they see that video, the entire argunt falls away and they realize that there is no need for such a comparison when judging humans that were capable of such feats of power. It was better to just appreciate the fact that they were both on the side of the humans.
The death toll in the tournant was much higher than the organizers thought it would be. With the introduction of unrecorded anima and the transformation of various superhumans into anima who were then killed by the other superhumans, it was one of the highest recorded death tolls in all the tournants that the Superhuman Alliance had ever organized. The actual number of deaths recorded in the tournant was never released to the public due to the need to preserve the Superhuman Alliance's integrity, but it was estimated that a record fifty-two superhumans out of the hundred that participated in the tournant ended up being killed by the ensuing battle.
But the biggest issue that the entire world was facing imdiately after the tournant wasn't any of the uncalculable situations. Instead, it was the fact that even after the tournant was assud to be over with the most dangerous anima being killed, there was a need to announce who the winner of the tournant was.
But the way things turned out, people found it difficult to accept the situation for what it was. In the midst of all the tough battles and incalculable losses taking place around the battlefield, there was one country that didn't forget the purpose of the tournant and continued to collect crystals from anima without fail.
Nigeria ended up with more than fifty crystals.
Kemi was also a mber of Mark's guild, but unlike the other mbers who sacrificed the tournant and went on to help Mark, Kemi did her part to help while also telling her team mbers not to forget to collect as many crystals as possible from dead anima.
So at the end of the tournant, she and her group ended up having the most crystals. The rules of the tournant were clear and there was no way they could change the rules at the end of the tournant just because the people they wanted to win didn't win. So the Nigerians were crowned as the winners.
This left a strange sense of disappointnt in the hearts of most citizens around the world when they realized that none of the powerhouses they had bet their money on won the tournant in the end.
Everyone thought that either Arica, Germany, or even China would co out on top in the tournant due to the sheer number of powerful superhumans that were representing their teams, but these superhumans didn't even try to win the tournant, and many of them, like Mark, ended up having no crystals at all because they just didn't care about harvesting the crystals after killing an anima.
In fact, one of the reasons why the three teams that ca out on top won at all was because there was an abundance of anima killed by Mark and gumi that was never touched after they killed them. Harvesting the crystals from these anima and then presenting them at the end of the tournant allowed them to co out on top.
As for Mark and the other mbers of his guild who were present in the fight against the Bishop and Rook, there was no real dissatisfaction with how the tournant turned out. Mark never entered the tournant because he wanted to win; he simply wanted to find out what was happening in Japan and stop it. Now that Mark had done that, he didn't care for anything else!
The superhumans that participated in the tournant were given first-class treatnt after their return to the mainland of Japan. Thousands of civilians were present at the airport where they landed, and it was difficult for them to even move through the crowds to get to the other side.
Mark ignored many of the people around him as he made his way through with Arit.
After everything that happened on that island, Mark realized that he had been lax in taking care of the issues around the world. How did Mark not know that the superhumans in Russia and Japan were compromised this much? Not only did the superhumans transform themselves into anima, but from what Mark heard from the Bishop and Rook, Mark was certain that there were more anima lords present in Russia.
Did this an that the Russian president was allowing so many anima to roam freely in his country? Is that the reason why the president refused to allow the Vanguard guild to enter his country? Was he taking sides with the anima instead of the humans?
Mark really didn't want to believe it, but there was no other way to explain what they had just fought against. The other aspect of Mark's concerns was Japan. When Mark made a link with gumi earlier, he was able to see her mories and the things that she had seen, and in there, Mark saw that one of the Japanese superhumans in the tournant had turned into an anima and killed gumi's brother.
Doesn't that an that Japan was also just as compromised as Russia? Mark needed to get to the bottom of all this, and the only way to do that was to talk to the one person that Mark knew could never be compromised in this country.
Mark made his way towards the Japanese Superhuman Alliance building.
