A few days passed since the Mayor’s speech with not much happening at all. However, on the 5th day, a man in hooded clothing ca to the Defenders’ headquarters late at night to talk to them.
10 minutes later, the man left without being seen, disappearing into the deep night.
10 minutes later, a Defender walked out from the sa place and made his way up the town to go to the Mayor’s mansion.
The mayor walked out to the front to take the small stack of papers that was just brought to him. He quickly flipped through it in the little light that was on the outside and smiled.
"Finally, took them so fucking ti," the Mayor thought and quickly walked into his mansion.
He had expected the people to bring the information over quickly. However, it had taken them nearly 5 whole days to bring all the information.
"Now... which one of them is the leader?" the mayor went deep into the mansion, arriving in a room with bright lights that made it all so very easy to read.
He flipped through the pages in his hand, comparing the nas there one by one to the census record to see who they all were.
He then started noting down the people that had problematic powers from the list. He noticed 3 Dulls in the list, all females, who he flagged down as well.
The person he really wanted was the shadowy figure that had arrived around his mansion twice now. The first ti was a long while ago when he had done his first announcent about Bradley becoming the next mayor.
The shadowy figure had arrived around the second prison and had returned empty-handed.
This ti, they had tried to enter the mansion wall. Thankfully, his security had noticed them this ti before they could do anything, so nothing had happened.
He wanted to find this person more than anything, but he was still unaware of who exactly this person was.
Given that all the males on the list did not have any sort of powers that matched what the person had done, he could only assu that the person was either missing from the list or a female.
This was why he flagged down the 3 Dulls ladies, who could’ve lied in the census to not show their real powers.
’That is considering those idiots didn’t just let girls get away with telling them a random power they had without verifying it,’ the mayor thought.
He stayed up late until midnight, figuring out what he could do. As he was planning all those stuff, the black-haired girl walked in again.
"You’re still working?" she asked, a bowl of sothing in her hand that she was eating from.
The mayor turned around. "Why are you still around?" he asked in an annoyed voice. "You should be sleeping."
"I was just reading the final volu of the book series I got into. I stayed up to finish it and I got hungry so I ca out for a midnight snack. I’ll sleep once I’m done with the book," the girl said.
The mayor’s eyes narrowed. "Don’t lie to . You are just here for sothing else," he said.
The girl’s faint smile suddenly got wide. "You know that boy that you brought in, the one that was in a coma?" she asked. "He said he wanted revenge, so I decided to see what he would do once he was up. He said he was going to kill them, so I had to stay up for it."
"Revenge?" the mayor asked. He thought for a bit and said, "But that kid’s mother died during the crawler attack, and as far as I can tell those brothers lost their father very early on in their life. They don’t even rember much about him."
The girl’s smile disappeared. "What?" she asked with a straight face. "Are you telling the revenge he wants is against..."
"The Crawlers, yes," the mayor answered.
"What? What’s the point of having a grudge against so mindless crawlers? If you want revenge, it has to be people," the girl said with her annoyance building up with each mont. "Tsk! I should have just killed him back then. That would’ve been more fun than watching him fight a fucking crawler and die."
The mayor could see her getting angry by the second. "If you know you’re not going to get your fun, then go to sleep," he said. "And stop disturbing . I need to do this quickly. I am already so tired."
"I’m not going to go so easily," the girl said. "Did you think I don’t know what you’ve been doing? There’s a big battle coming up, isn’t there?"
The mayor paused, not answering her question.
"When is it happening?" the girl asked.
The mayor grumbled a bit before answering. "Tomorrow," he said. "Once I get the plans to the Defenders, they will attack the people later at night."
"Really?" the girl got excited. "You should have told earlier. Ooh, I can’t wait for it."
"Don’t... don’t be too excited," the mayor said. "It’s not going to be as big of a battle as you might be expecting. It will just be the Defenders going to catch a bunch of criminals."
"You know I love criminals," the girl said. "And I’m sure there will be more than just that. No one is going to co willingly when they’ve spent so much ti trying to oppose you."
The mayor didn’t respond to that. "Go away and let do my job."
The girl left the room, leaving the mayor to finish his work for the night. The Mayor worked on a strategy for a while and ca up with what he could have the defenders exactly.
Once he was certain everything was planned out, he went to sleep.
The girl, who should have been gone returned once more to the room and looked at the stack of paper and the strategy that had been laid out.
"The 4th quadrant, huh?" he spoke softly. "This is going to be fun."
