Chapter 282: Existential Fear

While the Legion was working on collecting the crystals and gathering the dead bodies to put into Jason’s Alternate Dinsion, Jason glanced at the tab above Gina’s head, and he humd when he saw that she was already at [21%] in her hierarchy progressions.

’Just a few more battles like this one and she should reach a hundred. I wonder how much stronger she’ll be as a Rook Rank II.’

Jason felt pride in his heart when he thought about Gina being stronger and he wrapped his hands around her shoulder and bent to kiss the top of her head. Gina looked up with a questioning brow, and Jason shook his head as he spoke.

"Mum’s been asking about you. I had to tell her you were passed out since last night, but I can tell she wasn’t buying it. Give her a call later."

Gina felt slightly guilty as she thought about Jason lying to his mother. Gina knew that Jason didn’t like lying to his parents, but she understood that it was necessary. Mira wasn’t a part of the superhuman world, so she might not have taken the news of Gina’s death very well! In fact, Gina was sure that Mira would have broken down if she heard about what happened! Gina decided that she would follow Jason’s lead and keep this a secret as well when she speaks to Mira! It already ended, so there was no point in bringing it up anymore!

Jason suddenly looked up into the distance with a frown on his face and Gina turned around to try and see what he was looking at! There was nothing there and Gina asked Jason what had happened.

’I need to go et soone. I won’t take long, so use the shadows and go make sure Riyala is doing alright.’

Jason gave Gina another kiss on the head as he said this, and Gina nodded when she saw the serious look on Jason’s face. Gina was curious about what Jason was going to do, so she would ask him about it later when he was done. Gina fell into the shadows and began heading towards Riyala’s location, and Jason told his Legion mbers to continue taking the crystals from the dead Magical Beasts as he put his hands in his pockets and activated a skill.

[King’s Substitute] has been activated.

....

Outside the city, a black military-grade helicopter slowly landed on top of a building and killed its engines as various n in black combat suits ca down. Their faces were covered with half masks, and none of the n had any military badge or symbol on them that would show what organisation they were working with! Once they appeared, the Enforcers who were standing at the side narrowed their eyes in distrust as they watched the n. Fredrica, the head of the Gaia team overseeing Arica, was talking to the young girl, Romanov, who was holding the do over the city and she watched as one of the n who had just arrived walked up to her. He was a tall man with a strong build like a soldier, and Fredrica imdiately knew that he was the one leading the group.

"Make sure none of them can leave that city until we’ve cleared out the bodies, do you understand?"

Fredrica said this to Romanov, and Romanov nodded in understanding as she strengthened the do with her Gift to make sure no one could leave the city. Fredrica let out a harsh breath as she finally turned to the man beside her. Fredrica was still trying to co to terms with everything that had happened in the past few minutes, and she knew that it would take so ti for her to understand all of it. Jason was not a strange face as far as Fredrica was concerned. In fact, every single mber of the Gaia organisation knew about the Marc family, and they all knew that Jason Marc was the son of an inter-world traveller who ca here twenty years ago! They had all been waiting for the mont when Jason Marc would finally awaken his abilities and follow in the footsteps of his father, but the current situation was not going the way they hoped it would at all!

The first problem was how Jason Marc already seed to have a distrust of the entire Gaia organisation. The organisation had tried its best to keep a civil relationship with Jason because they knew he would be an important asset, but his involvent with inter-world travellers and his dislike for the entire Gaia organisation made it difficult for them to make him do what they wanted.

And now there was a second problem. Fredrica knew that Jason Marc had warned them not to go near the princess since he had taken her as a guest, but Fredrica had been hoping that since Jason wasn’t on Earth, they would be able to send her back to her own world and get rid of the other inter-world travellers before he got back here! The fact that Jason had appeared just before the deal was completed not only ruined their plans, but Fredrica was sure that it would sour the already fragile relationship between Gaia and Jason even more!

Fredrica had gotten off the phone with Cercai only a few minutes ago, and Cercai ordered her to just continue her duties as normal without bothering about Jason Marc’s reaction. Gaia’s job was to ensure the protection of the human race, and even though Jason had warned them not to touch Riyala, they did what they had to do in order to protect Earth! They couldn’t just allow the life of one girl to determine the fate of an entire city like this! And Fredrica knew that if she ever had to make a choice like this again, she would give Riyala to the Dragonriders every single ti.

Fredrica let out another tense breath before she faced the man in front of her and spoke.

"You need to clear out any dead bodies that are in the city before we can lift the do. There’ll be satellites pointing at the city soon, and they can’t see the inter-world travellers. Use the Spatial Distorter to transport the bodies to our base here in Arica, and we’ll have the scientists look over them for any pathogens or diseases before we take them to the main base. Do you understand?"

The masked man nodded before he spoke in a gruff voice.

"What about the superhumans that saw the inter-world travellers. Do we dispose of them?"

Fredrica’s face squeezed in thought before she pinched her nose and spoke.

"No, we can’t. We’ll just have to control the narrative to make sure there are no rumours. Gather the superhumans together and call Jinn so he can perform a mass mory wipe on them. Then spread so news about the gate being filled with dragons, but don’t say anything about the inter-world travellers. Don’t allow any of the superhumans to leave until you’re sure no one can speak about what really happened –"

"Fredrica."

A stern voice suddenly spoke from behind Fredrica, and a deep, intense silence passed through the entire rooftop as every single person turned around in shock once they heard the voice. Fredrica suddenly felt an existential fear pass through her entire body, like a rat that suddenly realised it had wandered into the territory of a cat, and the cat was standing right behind it. Fredrica didn’t even need to turn around to know exactly who was standing there. Jason Marc.

A hand landed softly on Fredrica’s shoulder, and Fredrica’s entire body shook in fear! Fredrica’s training started to kick in, and she took in a calming breath to make her heart stop racing, but there was no way she could ignore the sheer bloodlust pouring off Jason’s body! Jason’s voice sounded perfectly calm, but his mana was raging like a storm that threatened to eradicate anyone who dared to even blink! Jason leaned in to whisper in Fredrica’s ear, but the man who had been speaking to Fredrica suddenly shouted.

"Who are –!"

"Shut up."

Jason’s narrowed eyes pierced through the man, and the man froze imdiately!
