Chapter 102: A Difficult Conversation
"Since when were you this good at hiding stuff? You couldn’t even keep a secret for one day when you were in high school."
"What are you talking about? I’m great at keeping secrets."
Jason’s brow rose.
"You an like that ti you told the teacher where to find
when I skipped class?"
Gina’s cheeks grew hot once Jason brought that up, and she imdiately let out a small laugh. That day always made her feel very embarrassed because back then Gina didn’t yet know that she was in love with Jason and she always treated him like a little brother. But when Gina heard from one of her classmates that another girl was trying to confess to Jason at the back of the classroom, Gina didn’t even know when she went to report to the teacher so that she could ruin the plan.
That was the mont Gina knew that she liked Jason as more than a friend, but it was also really embarrassing because it made her look like a tattletale.
Mira suddenly zeroed in on what Jason had said and she grabbed his ear and pulled it softly while asking him what he ant by skipping class! This was the first ti she heard about him skipping any classes!
Jason faked so pain and told his mum he was sorry and Mira narrowed her eyes at him before sighing and letting him go since it was his birthday. Mira then smiled before she brought the cake closer and began to light the candles. Jason folded his hands and leaned back with a smile as he watched, and Mira clapped her hands together once she was done!
"Alright, Jason. Make a wish!"
Jason laughed at that before he closed his eyes, made a wish, and blew out the candles easily. Once he was done, Mira and Gina both clapped as Mira began to pull the food forward for them to eat. The small family of three enjoyed the al and cake for the next hour while gradually releasing the stress from their busy days. Gina spoke to Jason about the things that happened at the guild recently and Jason listened curiously as he heard her narrate the fight she had against the strongest mber of the guild.
Mira pulled out a board ga for them to play together and Gina went on to beat the shit out of both Jason and Mira in the ga. If there was one thing that Gina was more than confident in, it was her ability to always win any type of ga!
As the festivities continued, Jason also kept an eye on both the princess who was in his house as well as the agent that had been following him all this ti. The princess was still sleeping fine and the two large wolves guarding her were lying at the foot of the bed without moving, but the agent had followed Jason and Gina to Mira’s house and she was sitting on a building almost half a kiloter away and eating so ration bars while waiting for him to make another move. It was obvious that the agent cared more about what Jason was doing than what was happening with the princess.
Jason was glad that the agent didn’t try to enter his house. If she did, then Jason would have been forced to finally make a move against her and whoever was backing her. Jason was keen on hiding his abilities from the governnt, but that didn’t an he wouldn’t use them if the governnt went too far with their surveillance.
As the night passed quickly, the food on the table slowly disappeared as the two superhumans absolutely tore through it and before long it was all gone. Gina took the plates away to put them in the kitchen when she noticed that Mira wanted so ti alone with Jason and then Mira ca to sit beside Jason. Jason smiled at his mother wrapped his hand around her shoulder to pull her close and Mira’s face broke into a smile as her son’s strong arms held her tight.
"Everything okay, mum? You look like sothing’s on your mind."
Jason spoke with a raised brow when he saw the strained way his mother smiled and it didn’t take long before Jason realized that they were about to have another talk. Jason released a breath before folding his hands and leaning back on the couch.
Mira knew that this was going to be a difficult conversation, but she wasn’t going to drag it out for too long since it would only make things worse. She took a breath and finally spoke.
"I got a call from Janet yesterday after you and Gina left. She... she told
that there was a problem between her and her partner."
Mira’s voice cracked when she said the word partner. She still hated the fact that Gina chose that hoodlum as a partner and there was nothing that would make her accept him. Jason’s face hardened when he heard about Janet, but once he heard that there was a problem between her and her boyfriend, he imdiately sat up and asked what happened.
"Did he hit her?"
Jason’s brows furrowed in anger when he asked this and Mira quickly shook her head and spoke up.
"No, I don’t think so! At least, she didn’t say anything about that. But they’ve been having issues and she needed ti away from everything for a while. So... she asked if she could co back ho."
Jason frowned in irritation. What the hell did his mum just say? Janet wanted to co back? How in the world were they even talking about this right now!?
"Mum, I love you and that is the only reason why I’m not going to say exactly what is on my mind right now. But you can’t sit there and tell
that you forgot what Janet did to this family. Why the hell should we help her out after she abandoned us when we needed her the most?"
"Because she is still family, Jason."
Mira put her hand on her son’s shoulder and leaned over with a sad look on her face. Their family had been through a lot the past few years and Mira knew that Jason was the one that had taken the greatest load on his shoulder after both her husband and daughter left. Right now, Jason’s anger was completely justified.
But even though he was angry, that didn’t an she agreed with his desire to abandon his sister. No matter what Janet does either now or in the future, Jason could never forget that she is still his sister. She is still family. And family always looks out for one another.
Jason grit his teeth and turned away.
"Maybe she should have rembered that before she left her family to be with so fucking bum."
Mira hit Jason on the arm.
"Language, Jason. I know you’re angry and I understand, but I am still your mother and you will listen to . We have to help Janet now that she needs us, even after everything she did. I won’t sit on the sideline and watch as my daughter suffers on the street even though she has a family that loves her. That is not the kind of family I want us to be. Do you understand?"
Mira watched Jason closely after she finished and she hoped that her words would reach him. Mira knew that Jason’s input was very important in the family. She might be their mother, but Jason had been running the family for a long ti now and it wouldn’t be false to say that he was the head of this family. If Jason really hated the idea of Janet coming back, then it would be difficult to welco her.
