Sebastian's state kept deteriorating as Kyle looked at the black chain around his Spirit with hatred.
'This fucking thing!'
Countless illusory bodies appeared around the black chain and started attacking it. Yet, the chain was only shaking slightly. Kyle had just recently broken the third anchor. Breaking the black chains would be the next step, but it would take millennia of effort to break them.
He tried breaking them with as much power as he could, but it barely made a difference.
Kyle vaguely remembered how he had rejected his Spirit while fusing with his Elemental. Doing that again might work, but...
Too many dangers.
Rejecting one's Spirit essentially equated to mitting suicide. The only reason why he had survived back then was the presence of the white chains. If they hadn't been there to block Kyle's rejection, he would have died.
Additionally, even if he wanted to try rejecting his Spirit again, he couldn't. Rejecting one's Spirit was not something one could do just because one wanted to. It was like trying to feel an intense emotion without an external trigger. People couldn't order themselves to feel intoxicating ecstasy just because they wanted to.
It needed a trigger, and Kyle didn't have that trigger.
'I need to break the black chain! There's no other way!'
Kyle's mind was going wild as it formed all kinds of plans, and eventually, he found something that might work...
But it also might kill him.
Kyle looked at the space where the white chain used to be. It was no longer there. Since there was no white chain anymore, his Spirit was susceptible to outside forces.
Black and orange Energies flowed into the Spirit. These Energies came from Kyle's External Law of Black Hole. His Law of Black Hole didn't have any connection with his Spirit, and that was exactly why he was using it. The black chain could contain his Spirit's power, but the Law of Black Hole wasn't infused into his Spirit. It was something separate.
As soon as the black and orange Energies entered Kyle's Spirit, his existence started to burn, break, and distort. His Spirit was trying to "heal" his body with the blueprint that was tainted by foreign Energy.
Unending pain assaulted Kyle as he manded his Spirit to strike the black chains from the inside.
His Spirit shook, and the Black Hole Energies shot out. It was similar to a wet dog shaking its fur.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The Energies hit the chains, and their shaking intensified. Sadly, they were still nowhere close to breaking. At most, this method could shorten the time Kyle needed to advance to a couple of centuries.
'I don't have centuries! I have fucking seconds!'
Kyle watched the shaking chains with gritted teeth as the Karmic Line between him and Sebastian became more ethereal.
Next, he injected his Spirit with his Imposing Law. Once more, his Spirit distorted as Kyle's body started to change shape, but before he could turn into something unrecognizable, his Spirit threw the Law of Hammer at the chains.
BANG!
The chains shook, but...
Their shaking was even weaker than before! Using the Law of Black Hole had been more effective than using his Law of Hammer!
'That's because it's me!' Kyle thought with gritted teeth. 'My Spirit is me! It can resist me! My Law of Hammer is also me! That's why it's not working! Fuck!'
Kyle's eyes widened for a moment before narrowing with conviction.
'Then...'
The hammer on Kyle's back shook, or more precisely...
His Elemental shook.
The Elemental's Imposing Law rushed into Kyle's mind, and from Kyle's mind, it rushed towards his Spirit. In an instant, it entered Kyle's Spirit, but before anything could happen to him, his Spirit shook again.
The foreign Imposing Law hit the black chains and...
BANG!
They broke easily!
The black chains broke into pieces, which turned into Energies that entered Kyle's other Aspects of Power. He was advancing!
However, Kyle couldn't focus on his advancement. He had to save Sebastian!
The world around Kyle transformed as he gained more control over his Spirit. Once more, he focused on the small Karmic Threads connecting him with Sebastian. The one he had broken before had already dispersed.
CRK!
One of the Karmic Threads broke, and once more, Kyle felt an intense pain. He grabbed his half of the Karmic Thread, and then, he shoved it forward. This time, he didn't sense the strange feeling of being restrained.
The Karmic Thread extended and returned to the same space it had occupied earlier. However, while it was the same space, it was not the same reality.
Instead of connecting to Sebastian's vanishing mind, it connected to Sebastian's new mind.
Moments later, the Karmic Thread stopped shaking and became solid.
When Kyle saw that, his eyes narrowed.
CRK! CRK! CRK!
Shot after shot of pain traveled across Kyle's existence as he severed and reconnected the Karmic Threads.
CRK!
The tear in Kyle's Core grew, and the speed of his Energy regeneration dropped.
Yet, he didn't stop.
He severed and reconnected more Karmic Threads.
CRK!
Kyle's Energy Sense shook and distorted as the Energy inside his Spirit stopped flowing clearly. It was like several small stones had appeared in the stream, altering its flow.
When Kyle dealt with the last Karmic Thread, he barely felt the world around him anymore. His existence was filled with pain, and the world seemed to grow more distant.
He looked at Sebastian.
'He's not recovering!' he thought with gritted teeth. 'Why isn't he recovering?! His Spirit has his blueprint! Our Spirits are connected via Karma, and my Karma is leading to him! His Spirit should reconnect with his new brain!'
As Kyle's vision swam, he noticed something he had ignored before.
Karmic Lines.
There were so many distorted Karmic Lines.
They were the Karmic Lines connecting Sebastian with all of the other people he had met in Ayuvar.
While the Karmic Line between him and Kyle was the strongest, it was drowned out by the others.
Kyle was put in front of a choice.
'I might die if I do this.'
He looked at his Center, which still leaked Energy.
'Even if I survive, I might not recover. These are not normal injuries. This is punishment. The world is punishing me.'
Kyle looked at Sebastian.
'If I die, I will waste all of the previous sacrifices. So many people have sacrificed themselves to give me a chance.'
He clenched his fists.
'Even if I manage to succeed, there's no guarantee that Sebastian will actually recover! I can't, in good conscience, do this!'
'All of Humanity is betting on me! I can't sacrifice everyone's wishes as well! They've used their lives to build my path! I can't abandon the path after it has already been built!'
Manny's image shot through Kyle's head.
Fierce Breaker's image shot through his head.
Overlord Stygian, Overlord Sunlight, Overlord Cloudhorn, Overlord Riverly, Senior Protector Blooddrought, General Regalia, Protector Ziccan...
Star Genesis...
Kyle looked forward.
Sebastian...
Kyle closed his eyes.
Just one more...
Just one more sacrifice...
This will be the last...
Please, just one more...
Please...
No more...
No more, please...
No more...
No more.
Kyle's eyes shot open with determination.
'No more!'
Kyle gathered his Energy, and in one strike...
He broke all of Sebastian's Karmic Lines, except for the one between them.
