Chapter 249: Chapter 245: Approaching [4]

Inside Thunder Gate, several hot pots bubbled on a round table in a spacious room.

Plates piled high with vegetables and sliced beef and mutton sat to the side.

Eight figures were seated around the table.

Without exception, n and won alike, they were all brawny and powerfully built.

Stranger still, they were almost completely hairless, their gleaming bald heads faintly reflecting the light.

But one among them stood out. He was a young man with a refined temperant, fair skin, and sharp, handso features.

He had a head of short, black hair, and though his build was also solid, it was nowhere near the others’ level.

"Junior Brother, that physique of yours won’t do. You’d better eat up."

Guo Yi, who stood a head taller than the young man, laughed and clapped him on the shoulder.

"That’s right, Junior Brother. Here at Thunder Gate, the average height is two ters to start."

"Hey, what’s the point of being so tall? I think Junior Brother’s height is just right."

"But then again, I’m so jealous of Junior Brother. He still has a full head of black hair."

"My Senior Brothers and Sisters are right!"

The young man—Ouyang Shuokong—just smiled.

"We’re all fellow disciples of the sa sect. If there’s anything you don’t understand, we can always discuss it with each other..."

Guo Yi said.

As they chatted idly, an even more imposing man walked in through the door.

At the sight of him, everyone who had been sitting imdiately stood up.

"Master, Happy New Year!"

"Haha, Happy New Year! Sit, sit, let’s eat!"

Lei Bao’s gaze swept over the crowd, pausing for a mont on Ouyang Shuokong. He then smiled and waved his hand, signaling for everyone to start cooking.

After they had eaten and drunk their fill, the food on the table was completely gone.

Lei Bao took a napkin and wiped the corner of his mouth.

"Li Hai, stay behind for a mont. I have sothing to discuss with you."

"Yes, Master!"

Ouyang Shuokong nodded.

Watching this scene, Guo Yi frowned slightly, a trace of dissatisfaction stirring in his heart.

As the senior disciple of Thunder Gate, he had once been his master’s closest disciple.

But ever since this junior brother arrived, everything had changed.

However, when he thought of the monstrous talent the other man had displayed, Guo Yi took a deep breath, suppressing his irritation and jealousy, and strode away.

"Li Hai, it seems your strength has broken through again?"

Once the two of them were in a private office, Lei Bao picked up a thermos from the desk, unscrewed the lid, and took a small sip before turning his gaze to Ouyang Shuokong and speaking with a faint smile.

"Indeed. Your eyes are sharp, Master! This disciple just made a breakthrough two days ago, Condensing Liquid into Pill!"

Li Hai—that is, Ouyang Shuokong—said with a cupped fist salute.

As he spoke, he released the aura of a Qi Dao Grandmaster at the True Pill Realm.

"Excellent, excellent!"

Lei Bao’s eyes lit up.

In his eyes, the talent of this newly accepted direct disciple was truly unprecedented.

He pulled a white porcelain bottle from his robes.

Through the bottle’s walls, a faint yellow light could be seen flickering within, accompanied by the soft crackle of electricity.

"This is a Thunder Essence Pill. It can help you accelerate the Unity of Essence and Qi! Take it."

"Thank you, Master!"

"At your current pace, you’ll likely only need a few years at most to reach Refining God.

Unfortunately, if only you had been born a hundred years earlier.

The outco might have been different. Now, it’s too late."

At this, Lei Bao shook his head.

"Is it because of the cataclysm?"

Ouyang Shuokong’s eyes flickered.

After his rebirth, information about Mother Earth had appeared in his mind. He suspected that stopping her was the very reason for his resurrection.

"Correct! Our only hope now lies with that person. If that fails, our only option is to try to escape on the Interstellar Battleships developed by the Celestial Art Institute."

Lei Bao nodded.

"Are you referring to...?"

Ouyang Shuokong asked, his expression shifting slightly.

"He is the only one with the greatest hope of stepping into that realm."

Lei Bao’s tone was heavy, as if he were in low spirits.

He then briefly explained the situation.

Afterward, he stood up and left.

Ouyang Shuokong watched his master’s back as he left.

He stood frozen on the spot.

He frowned, replaying what Lei Bao had just told him.

His heart was reeling with shock.

’Less than half a year to go from a Qi Dao Grandmaster to the Refining God Limit? How is that possible?’

Even with his own comprehension and talent, he had clearly felt his cultivation progress slow down after reaching the Qi Dao Grandmaster realm.

He felt it would be considered fast if he could even touch the bottleneck to Refining God within a year.

He never imagined that such a person could exist in this world.

After a mont of thought, he pushed the idea from his mind.

’With an expert of that caliber, stopping Mother Earth shouldn’t be a problem.’

’Compared to saving the Human Race, I’m more interested in raising my own Life Level.’

’After all, in my last life, I died of old age when my Lifespan ran out. In this life, I’ve been given a rare second chance and have no intention of repeating my past mistakes.’

’In my previous life, eternal life had been nothing more than an impossible fantasy.’

’But things are different now. Whether it’s the sky-soaring, earth-burrowing Qi Dao Grandmasters or the Refining God Venerables with lifespans of over a thousand years, they’ve all shown

that eternal life is possible.’

’I’m not willing to give up.’

’As for the mission of saving the world, I’ll leave that to soone more capable. Ti is too short, and I’m powerless to help.’

...

「More than seven months passed in a flash.」

It was the height of sumr. The high temperatures caused intense evaporation, increasing the moisture content in the air.

Vigorous atmospheric convection created strong updrafts, carrying water vapor high into the sky where it cooled and condensed into clouds.

Once the water vapor in the clouds reached saturation, it began to rain.

The sky was overcast, and a fine, steady drizzle drifted down like silken threads.

Because of the weather, Daoist Mountain had far fewer pilgrims than usual today.

Even so, so could still be seen slowly ascending the stone steps, determined to worship the Xuanqing God and have their wishes granted.

Among them, a handso young man was climbing the stairs.

He carried no umbrella, yet strangely, not a single drop of rain touched his clothes.

However, when the other pilgrims looked at the young man, it was as if they saw nothing at all.

’Gathering incense offerings, drawing on the faith of the masses...’

Ji Wuxing looked up. In his line of sight, a faint golden light was gathering above the Daoist temple halfway up the mountain, which was shrouded in the misty rain. It made the ancient temple appear wonderfully divine, like the dwelling of an immortal.

Ordinary people, however, could not see this divine scene at all.

「Before long.」

He arrived before Xuanqing Temple.

Just then, a flash of clear light erged from the temple, coalescing into a figure.

This figure was also imperceptible to the naked eye.

It passed straight through the wall and appeared before the young man.

"This humble Daoist, Xuanqing, greets Your Majesty!"

Xuanqing looked at the young man before him and perford a Daoist salute.

"Sect Leader Xuanqing, it really is you. I never thought we would et again."

A strange look flashed in Ji Wuxing’s eyes as he gazed at Xuanqing.

He’d had his suspicions when he learned of Xuanqing’s location, but he couldn’t be certain. Only now was it confird.

"Of all those people from back then, only the two of us are left, aren’t we?"

Ji Wuxing’s tone was tinged with emotion.

Xuanqing did not respond to that.

Instead, he asked directly, "Your Majesty, I doubt you’ve co to my Xuanqing Temple just for a simple chat with this humble Daoist, have you?"

Ji Wuxing smiled.

"Xuanqing, you know us so well. In that case, we shall be direct."

He paused, and the aura of a Refining God Venerable abruptly burst from him, blanketing the surrounding world.

"This ti, our resurrection is by Celestial Mandate, for the purpose of saving all living beings. Xuanqing, are you willing to lend us your aid?"

Xuanqing did not seem surprised by this.

From the mont he laid eyes on him, he had noticed the imnse Power of Fortune surrounding this emperor of the Taixuan Dynasty.

The fortune gathered around Ji Wuxing now was even more powerful than it had been ten thousand years ago.

"And how does Your Majesty intend to do that?"

Xuanqing asked.

"It’s simple. Make the entire Xia Federation submit to us!

We possess a Secret Technique that can harness the ethereal national fortune of the world for our own use.

Once we achieve complete unification, we will surely be able to break the shackles of Refining God and step into the Void Realm!"

Ji Wuxing declared.

"The matter of national fortune is no small thing.

National fortune is the aggregate of the personal fortune of all living beings.

If anything goes wrong, everyone in the Xia Federation will be buried along with you, Your Majesty!"

However, Xuanqing simply shook his head.

When it ca to the Dao of fortune, no one understood it better than he did.

’If a civilization is wiped out, remnants of the Human Race will still survive; they won’t all perish.’

’But if the Earth Star Human Race were to unify and all their national fortune were to be vested in him, it would be fine if Ji Wuxing succeeded.’

’If he failed, however, the fortune of the entire Earth Star Human Race would collapse along with him.’

’Once their fortune collapsed, they could choke to death just from drinking water.’

’At that point, the entire Human Race would likely face annihilation.’

He would naturally not agree to such a plan.

"Xuanqing, are you preparing to refuse us?" Ji Wuxing said lightly.

"You carved out a unique path, cultivating with the faith from incense offerings. Though you possess power surpassing that of an ordinary Refining God Venerable and are difficult to kill, it’s a pity that you are perfectly countered by us. We hope you won’t bring disaster upon yourself."

As he spoke, the figure of a Dharma Aspect clad in an Emperor’s Robe and wearing a Crown slowly materialized behind him, releasing a domineering, regal aura.

It was like the Celestial Son himself, the one true ruler!

The instant it appeared, Xuanqing couldn’t help but let out a muffled groan!

His figure stumbled back two steps.

The clear light surrounding his body flickered unsteadily.

His physical body was long dead. He had rely transford his state of being, becoming a god-like existence.

The source of his power was the faith of his followers.

And Ji Wuxing, who stood before him, was similar, only stronger. He was one of the Celestial Fate People chosen by the world in the previous civilization. With his national fortune, even though he currently only possessed the strength of the Dharma Realm, he was able to exert imnse pressure on Xuanqing.

"The Xia Federation is not so small country, nor is it the Taixuan Dynasty. It is a federated system.

It is jointly governed by several Speakers, and this humble Daoist is but one of them. Even if I were to agree, you would not be able to obtain the fortune of the entire Federation."

Xuanqing said, his thoughts unreadable.
