Lin Lan waved to the children on the side, “Co, let ask you all, how did you get here? Who was picked up and who was exchanged for food?”
The children rushed to say one by one, “I was picked up!”, “My parents exchanged half a bag of sorghum rice with the beggar for !”, “I was…”

When you were young, you weren’t happy being teased like this, but now you are doing the sa?” How confident were they to treat their children so nicely to the point where if sothing bad were to happen, they wouldn’t go and find their ‘biological parents’ instead?
Either they favour sons over daughters or they were biassed towards the youngest children. Almost no parents were able to treat all the kids with equal love. So would be extra loved while others would be beaten and scolded all the ti. If so, that child would eventually long for soone who would be able to give them a greater amount of love.
And of course, even if the children of these families do run away from ho, the parents’ wouldn’t take it seriously. They would just think, “The little brat is just ssing around. Where can they go? Probably out for a walk and the next thing you know? They’ll co back.”
After being told off and explained so seriously by Lin Lan for several days, the children in Shanzui Village finally realised that they were not picked up and were instead the biological children of their parents.
Most adults realised their mistakes afterwards and deliberately refrained from saying or saying less such words to coax children.
This would be good for most children, but for a small number of the kids, it would also have crushed their hopes. Since their parents were not good to them, they hoped to have better parents who were sowhere out there. However, there wasn’t a chance for that to happen any longer.
Lin Lan did tell them, “Besides becoming a better version of yourself, there is no better person who can pick you up.”
For girls, who could not leave the Shanzui Village without studying, there was no need to give them too much hope. Instead, they should try their best to recognize the reality and be down-to-earth in order to better protect themselves. This way, they would have a safe childhood and adolescence.
After all, girls with longings were the easiest to be deceived. Single n in the village could just say a few nice words, give them sothing to eat or a handkerchief before the girls would be voluntarily fooled. So might even be deceived into losing their virginity.
During this period of publicity in Shanzui Village, there were incidents of missing children in a nearby brigade. It was nothing more than parents being partial and inflicting unfair punishnt on certain children. The kids ended up not being able to bear it any further and quietly ran away from ho. These children would not have enlightened parents. So even if they were to return ho eventually, they would either receive more severe beatings or more cold looks.
Therefore, most of the girls in Shanzui Village were grateful for the publicity explanations that Lin Lan gave them.
