Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Night Visit to Ancestral Tomb Mountain

Chen Xiao was driving Luo Dali’s car, heading towards Su Haidong’s hotown.

The longer he drove, the darker the sky beca.

For the entire day, Chen Xiao hardly paused, with his thoughts scarcely taking a break.

He didn’t know when he adapted to such intense thinking, but he was certain that with the calendar reward, he hadn’t felt any exhaustion yet.

There were no delays on the road, and by around seven in the evening, Chen Xiao reached a village called Sha Xi.

This is where Su Haidong was born, under the jurisdiction of Qifang Town.

However, Su Haidong was fortunate; his parents provided him with favorable living conditions, taking him to live in the city quite early on.

The Su Family was also renowned throughout Qifang Town, even referred to as the scholarly family of Qifang.

This reputation was a source of pride for the Su Family, aning Su Haidong’s parents were fairly respected locally.

Thus, after Su Haidong’s parents passed away, they were buried in the Ancestral Tomb Mountain of Sha Xi Village, and Li Ruoi as well.

As Chen Xiao walked into Sha Xi Village, a call from Zhang Xian ca through.

He assud it was about the results of the blood relation test between Su Jing, Su Ting, and Su Haidong, but Zhang Xian said:

"You should be at Sha Xi Village by now? Once you’re there, just say you’re police; I’ve contacted the local village committee, and they’ll assist you."

"Alright, Captain Zhang, have the results of the blood relation comparison co out yet?"

"No, not that quickly; we’ll have to wait."

Chen Xiao realized, this wasn’t the future yet; even in the future, DNA testing takes a considerable amount of ti.

"Understood, I’ll report back as soon as there’s news."

Chen Xiao said as he walked into Sha Xi Village, soon eting a middle-aged man coming forward.

"Is it Mr. Chen?"

"I am."

"Haha, welco to our Sha Xi Village, Mr. Chen. I’m a village official, also surnad Su; the town leader called , saying you were invited by the police departnt in the city, right?"

Chen Xiao nodded with a smile: "Yes, the Hongshan Branch Detective Team asked

to co over to investigate so matters."

"I see, then Mr. Chen, please follow

inside for so tea."

Chen Xiao didn’t refuse the village official’s kindness, as he too bore the Su surna.

This ant he understood the reason for Chen Xiao’s visit. Since that was the case, a cup of tea wouldn’t delay matters.

Soon, Su Ganbu brought out the tea and asked with a smile: "The leader on the phone didn’t make it clear; may I ask what specific matter brings Mr. Chen to our Sha Xi Village?"

"Su Haidong died, murdered by soone." Chen Xiao revealed directly without any reservation.

Su Ganbu’s face changed upon hearing this: "Ah? Haidong died?"

Chen Xiao nodded: "Since you share the Su surna, you must be a part of the family here in the village, right?"

"Yes, in terms of seniority, we’re cousins. However, he always lived in the city and rarely returned except for significant events, so our etings were few. You suddenly telling

he’s dead, it’s quite a shock to my system!"

Su Ganbu was indeed taken aback, and Chen Xiao nodded slightly: "I ca to Sha Xi Village because of his death, so I would like to ask you for so information."

"Mr. Chen, please ask; I will definitely cooperate with you!"

"Do you know what caused his wife Li Ruoi’s death?"

Although Lin Xi was also investigating this, Chen Xiao was here and coincidentally t Su Haidong’s cousin, so he naturally wouldn’t let go of this question.

"Haidong ntioned it was due to illness. Alas... thinking of Ruoi, she was quite an unfortunate woman. She was virtuous and dutiful, especially filial to Haidong’s parents. Unfortunately, she just couldn’t provide a descendant for the Su Family, and suffered quite a bit because of it."

Listening to Su Ganbu’s lant, Chen Xiao remained impassive.

Because he understood too well what the so-called "providing a descendant" ant; it simply was that Li Ruoi couldn’t bear a son for Su Haidong.

Let alone this was in 2006; even in the future so places still struggled with these beliefs.

"What does Su Ganbu an by suffering?" Chen Xiao continued to ask.

Su Ganbu replied: "Seeing doctors; everyone in the village knows she visited many herbalists, and even Haidong’s mother went back ho to search for redies."

"Wasn’t his mother educated? And she did this?"

"Well, what does this have to do with education, not being able to give birth to a son surely ans there’s an issue, right?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Xiao thought it was ti to tactfully switch topics.

"So is it your opinion that Li Ruoi’s illness might have resulted from taking various redies?"

"Yes, that’s what everyone says, anyone soaking this long in dicine will face a breaking point, except Ruoi passed at just thirty-sothing, quite unlucky indeed."

Su Ganbu sighed repeatedly, prompting Chen Xiao to ask: "Then how does the village view Su Haidong’s two daughters?"

"What’s there to say, obviously every ti Haidong brings them back, it’s clear he treats them like sons. The two girls are quite sensible but seldom interact with villagers, possibly because they’ve been in the city too long!"

Chen Xiao smiled faintly, not responding further to Su Ganbu’s comnt.

Analyzing in his mind, Guo Qing claid Su Haidong couldn’t, but villagers say Li Ruoi couldn’t bear children, quite contradictory.

Moreover, Chen Xiao knew well, bearing a son has nothing to do with a woman, a charge won bear unjustly.

Unfortunately, these perspectives are deeply rooted historically, unlikely to change overnight.

Considering everything, Chen Xiao couldn’t help but suspect if Li Ruoi endured such censure due to family pride? Considering Su Haidong’s family is quite prestigious in Qifang Town.

Or perhaps, did Li Ruoi herself share this belief?

Chen Xiao wasn’t certain, needing results from Lin Xi and Zhang Xian’s investigation.

Once results co out, the cause of Li Ruoi’s death will be clear, as well as whether Su Haidong was truly infertile.

Setting these thoughts aside temporarily, Chen Xiao ntioned another intention: "Su Ganbu, can you take

to Li Ruoi’s grave?"

Su Ganbu’s face changed, instinctively glancing outside: "Are you serious, Mr. Chen, going to Ancestral Tomb Mountain at this hour?"

"Yes, I have to head back soon, so I’d better take a look while I’m here."

Su Ganbu was quite troubled: "But Ancestral Tomb Mountain is eerie, and this season the trees on the mountain are thick, entering will give you chills."

Recognizing Su Ganbu’s fear, Chen Xiao chuckled bitterly and nodded: "Alright, just point

in the direction, describe the general location of Li Ruoi’s grave, I’ll go myself."

Seeing Chen Xiao’s firm stance, Su Ganbu had no choice but to lead him out and pointed toward a mountain behind the village, saying: "That’s Ancestral Tomb Mountain, Ruoi is buried near the top of the mountain back. That area is especially dense with trees, you’ll have to search well!"

"Are Su Haidong’s parents’ graves there too?"

"No, their graves face the village directly, many villagers are buried facing the village, rarely at the mountain back."

Upon hearing this, Chen Xiao suddenly frowned.

A disturbing feeling crept up in his chest, prompting him to ask: "Su Ganbu, has Su Haidong returned since last year?"
