"Bang!"

"What the hell do you an!"

"Do you think just because you're a cop you can talk nonsense?"

"Do you even understand what you're saying!"

Peng Zhou burst into uncontrollable rage.

Chen Xiao remained seated and said, "Why are you shouting in the criminal investigation team? Think carefully about what I'm asking. I'm asking if there's any other relationship between you and Lian Yuhong, and whose child is in Lian Yuhong's womb?"

Chen Xiao was well aware of the implications of the question.

He indeed intended to guide and imply, but such things could not be spoken openly.

He could only ask in such a suggestive way and then observe Peng Zhou's reaction.

Because the fetus was only eight weeks old, it was impossible to conduct a paternity test in such a short ti.

But Chen Xiao couldn't be blad for thinking in this direction.

What kind of secret could Lian Yuhong have now that can't be spoken even in death?

Aside from an issue with the child in her womb, there's probably nothing else, right?

And when she hanged herself in the end, she chose the sneakers Peng Zhou gave her, isn't this an illogical hint from the deceased before her death?

However, Peng Zhou's reaction, apart from anger, showed no sign of guilt or fear.

Under the Power of Capture, few could now escape Chen Xiao's eyes.

Seeing Peng Zhou still in anger, Chen Xiao said again, "Alright, sit down. Just answer my questions and don't overthink."

Peng Zhou sat down indignantly, "I have only a simple relationship with her, and I have to work and don't frequently go ho. Also, who else's could the child in her womb be other than Li Xi's? This is baffling!"

Chen Xiao smiled, "That's right, I'm asking you mainly because Lian Yuhong was wearing the shoes you gave her when she committed suicide."

"Those shoes were sothing I bought her when we were shopping with my aunt and dad and I noticed she liked them. What's the problem with that?"

Chen Xiao just nodded silently, "Don't get too excited, I'm just asking."

"Your way of asking is infuriating." Peng Zhou said, still sowhat sulking.

Once again, Chen Xiao didn't read any hints of luck or relief from his eyes.

"Alright, Mr. Peng, I asked all my questions. Shall I drive you back? Consider it my apology."

Peng Zhou declined, "No need for the trouble, I'll take a taxi back myself."

Chen Xiao didn't insist, gesturing for him to leave, and Peng Zhou walked off with a stern expression.

After he left, Chen Xiao exited the interrogation room too.

Qin Fei walked over, "You let him go so quickly?"

"While questioning, it felt like there wasn't a problem, so there's no point in keeping him any longer."

As Chen Xiao said this, he initially thought of discussing it with Xie Wensheng, but ultimately said to Qin Fei instead:

"Captain Qin, you saw

questioning Peng Zhou just now?"

Qin Fei nodded, "You caught him completely off guard with your questions, and his reaction seed okay. However, I'm a bit unclear on the basis for those two questions, was it just about those sneakers?"

Qin Fei's words had an implication.

A pair of sneakers were insufficient grounds for suspicion.

Since the shoes were just placed beside the bed, any pair of shoes could have been Lian Yuhong's choice.

"It's precisely because of those shoes that there's a doubt." Chen Xiao stated unequivocally, Qin Fei remained silent, and Chen Xiao continued:

"Now there are two choices in front of us: one, there's sothing fishy about Lian Yuhong's death. Two, Lian Yuhong couldn't bear her mother's favoritism and committed suicide. I have previously stated in front of the entire team that Lian Yuhong had reasons for suicide, and I still hold this opinion."

"But holding this opinion doesn't an I conclude it's a suicide. Moreover, a single doubt is enough for us to investigate. As long as there's suspicion, we must explain how Lian Yuhong died. From the scene and the autopsy reports so far, it doesn't seem like Lian Yuhong committed suicide under external forces."

Qin Fei understood the point, "So... you're suspecting that Lian Yuhong was... "

"Driven to death! This hypothesis needs reasonable justification to stand, and the only thing that cos to mind now is the eight-week-old fetus."

Qin Fei gave a thumbs up, "You sure dare to guess. Indeed, following this logic, Lian Yuhong might choose suicide under extre panic. After all, she and Li Xi were about to get married, and Li Xi had made significant sacrifices for her."

"Yes, if the child in her womb isn't Li Xi's, or if there's a chance it's soone else's, Lian Yuhong wouldn't be able to face Li Xi. Perhaps out of sha, or fear, she'd rather die to keep the secret. If this secret holds, then who would reveal it?"

Qin Fei responded without hesitation, "Such things might just be known by heaven, earth, her, and him. So anyone who had relations with Lian Yuhong could be involved. However, Lian Yuhong's occupation... "

Though Qin Fei didn't finish, Chen Xiao understood the implication, and after a glance, Qin Fei replied:

"I'll go ask Lian Yuhong's colleagues from before; perhaps they know sothing, given the deterrence of the Yang Lake Phantom Case twelve years ago. A copycat is not out of the question!"

"Alright, I'll also et with Captain Xie."

Qin Fei nodded and left the criminal investigation team with Chen Xiao.

A dozen minutes later, Chen Xiao t Xie Wensheng at the hospital.

After discussing current suspicions with Xie Wensheng, he was taken aback and said:

"You and Qin Fei suspect it might be a copycat cri?"

"It's just a hypothesis. I've also brought the records from twelve years ago and Lian Yuhong's case. You're more familiar with that case than I am, so now we need you to find discrepancies. Identifying differences can confirm this line of thought."

Xie Wensheng understood the intention and while poring over Lian Yuhong's case file, said:

"We should first set aside my father's case twelve years ago. Lian Da, Zhu Mao, and Chang Guan were very close friends, childhood playmates. Their death scenes were in their hos, occurring at midnight, in order Lian Da, then Zhu Mao, and finally Chang Guan."

"The death scenes of the three seem quite similar to Lian Yuhong's, hanging from a beam with a rope."

"So if we're to nitpick, the only difference would be the shoes."

"What's different about the shoes?" Chen Xiao asked.

Xie Wensheng: "The three died in winter, wearing warm slippers for getting up at night, whereas Lian Yuhong was wearing sneakers."

"So the doubt about Lian Yuhong wearing sneakers, the more you think about it, the more it doesn't add up, right?"

Xie Wensheng didn't imdiately respond, instead contemplating silently.

Chen Xiao was in a similar state, though questioning Xie Wensheng, he was also questioning himself.

As they pondered, Chen Xiao suddenly said, "Regarding Lian Yuhong, do you think my hypothesis was still too conservative? Should it be more daring?"

Upon hearing this, Xie Wensheng was initially stunned, then incredulously replied:

"It couldn't be that exaggerated!"
