Chapter 451: Love Declaration

Not long after ending the call, Emily was pulled into surgery.

The procedure was plicated.

What should have been routine turned into something much longer.

Hours passed.

By the time Emily finally stepped out of the operating theatre, she felt exhausted.

She removed her surgical cap as she walked down the hallway.

Her shoulders ached. Her feet hurt. And all she wanted was water and somewhere to sit down.

She had barely taken ten steps when a nurse walking towards her smiled brightly at her.

“Doctor Emily!”

Emily blinked. “Yes?”

“Thank you!”

Emily frowned. “For what?”

But the nurse only laughed and lifted a beautifully packaged meal box. Then she hurried away.

Emily stared after her.

What was that about?

A few moments later, another doctor walked past carrying two identical meal boxes.

“Thanks, Emily.”

Emily stopped him. “For what exactly?”

The doctor laughed. “You’re kidding, right?”

Then he walked away before she could ask anything else.

Emily frowned harder.

What was happening?

She continued down the hallway.

The farther she walked, the stranger things became.

A patient sitting in a wheelchair waved excitedly at her. “Thank you, Doctor Emily!”

Emily smiled politely as the patient lifted a luxury food box from his lap.

“My wife is going to be jealous she missed this.”

Emily blinked.

The food box looked very expensive. And she knew it definitely wasn’t hospital food.

A few feet away, two nurses were taking selfies while holding identical boxes.

Another patient walked past carrying one.

Then another doctor. Then another nurse. Then a visitor.

Everyone seemed to have one, and they all seemed happy.

And somehow, everyone kept thanking her.

Something wasn’t right, Emily thought as she slowed her steps, but her mind was too tired to prehend what was happening.

“Doctor Emily!”

She turned when one of the interns rushed over.

“Oh my God. He’s so romantic.”

Emily frowned.

“Who?”

The intern looked confused. “Your boyfriend, obviously.”

Emily froze as a terrible suspicion immediately formed in her head.

“No.”

The intern laughed. “Yes.”

Emily closed her eyes. “I should have known Callan was behind this.”

The intern giggled.

“Honestly, I think it’s adorable.”

Emily opened her eyes again. “What did he do?”

The intern’s grin widened. “You should go see it for yourself.” That was all she said before hurrying away.

Emily groaned.

Callan had undoubtedly done something big.

She could feel it.

The closer she got to the hospital entrance, the larger the crowd became.

Doctors, nurses, patients, and even visitors. Everybody seemed to have gathered there.

Laughter filled the air. Phones were out. People were taking pictures.

As Emily approached, they all made room for her to pass through, and most of them took out their phones to capture her reaction.

Emily froze when she got to the front and saw it.

Several luxury catering vans were parked directly in front of the hospital.

The vans looked ridiculously expensive. But it wasn’t the vans that caught her attention.

It was the enormous banner attached to the side of one of the vans.

Her eyes widened.

The banner read:

TO THE WONDERFUL STAFF, PATIENTS, AND VISITORS OF THIS HOSPITAL

TODAY’S LUNCH IS PROVIDED BY ME.

PLEASE ENJOY IT.

AND WHILE YOU’RE EATING, PLEASE THANK THE BEAUTIFUL LOVE OF MY LIFE, DR EMILY WILLIAMS

FOR ALLOWING ME THE PRIVILEGE OF LOVING HER. BECAUSE IF SHE DIDN’T EXIST I WOULDN’T BE IN THE MOOD TO BUY YOU LUNCH.

SIGNED,

CALLAN QUINN

HER VERY PROUD BOYFRIEND

WHO IS PLETELY, HOPELESSLY, AND INSANELY HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE WITH HER.

“Oh my God,” Emily whispered as she immediately covered her face.

The entire crowd erupted into fresh laughter at her reaction.

A nurse clutched her chest dramatically. “This is the sweetest thing ever!”

An intern buried her face in her hands. “This is why I’m single.”

Another doctor shook her head. “I suddenly hate my boyfriend.”

Emily wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole.

Then she raised her head when she heard a familiar voice.

“Hello, Princess.”

Emily gasped when she suddenly saw Callan standing beside one of the vans holding a huge bouquet of flowers.

White roses. Blue lilies. Her favourite orchids.

And the smug smile on his face told her he was very pleased with himself.

“I was wondering how long I’d have to wait before you finally made it out,” he said as he approached her.

The crowd instantly became louder.

“He came himself!”

“Oh my God!”

“Aww!”

Emily pointed at him accusingly. “I asked you to behave!”

Callan looked genuinely confused. “And I said no promises. Besides, I only brought lunch as I promised.”

“You brought lunch for an entire hospital!”

“Sharing makes us all happy,” Callan said sweetly as he stopped in front of her and handed her the flowers.

The crowd burst into laughter.

Emily groaned. “And what’s with the banner?” She asked as she accepted the flowers despite herself.

He leaned closer and whispered for her ears alone, “I figured you’d prefer this over the billboard announcement. This way everyone in the hospital gets the message.”

Emily laughed now. “For Christ’s sake, Callan! I thought you were joking about that. This is going to be all over social media. You know it. Everyone is going to see it.”

“Why does that bother you? I want everyone to know I’m taken by the most incredible lady in the world.”

The crowd collectively lost their minds.

Several nurses squealed.

Emily covered her face again. “Our parents,” she whispered.

“Good. Saves us the trouble of announcing it twice,” he said as he slipped an arm around her waist. “Everyone, meet the woman responsible for all this.”

Immediately, another round of cheers and teasing followed.

Emily buried her face against his shoulder.

This was officially the most embarrassing day of her life.

Callan lowered his head slightly and whispered into her ear. “Now everybody knows. You’re stuck with me, Princess.”

Emily laughed helplessly. “I’ve always been stuck. You’re the one who’s stuck now.”

His eyes softened as he looked at her. “That was the point.”

Emily looked up at him. Then at the crowd. Then at the vans and banner.

And despite her embarrassment, she couldn’t stop smiling.

Only Callan Quinn would turn announcing a relationship into a hospital-wide event.

The same Callan who had been running away from mitment for years.

It was ridiculous.

pletely ridiculous.

And somehow that made her love him even more.
