Chapter 1116: Chapter 20 Underworld Experiences_2
Yan Yu surveyed the surroundings for a mont, and at least along the main thoroughfare of the advancing troops, he didn’t find any evil ghosts lurking, indicating that Lin Ning and Li Minghu were doing their jobs quite well.
As for so wandering ghosts that got separated from the main troops and were eaten in secluded areas, that was unavoidable.
Crossing mountains and ridges, up to the highest point, is Fengdu City.
Last ti when they observed from a distance with the group, it was nothing but ruins. Now, under Chen Lingyun’s relentless labor push without considering manpower costs, the shell of the city has been erected.
To guard against external evil ghost attacks, the city walls are about 15 ters high. Inside are many buildings, but they are not laid out according to the ancient architecture of the original Fengdu City. Instead, they form a modern residential area with high-rises mixed with row houses, interspersed with nurous comrcial streets, seemingly inspired by Chen Lingyun’s play in the Genesis series.
At the center of the city is naturally the core Judges Hall.
According to folklore, the multitude of good and evil deeds of the ghosts during their lifeti are personally judged by King Yanluo.
However, Chen Lingyun obviously didn’t intend to sit here as the supre grand judge. She arranged many Yin Departnt judges to work here, so reviewing identity docunts, others interrogating ghosts to confirm facts. For those who are extrely wicked and need to be punished in Hell, an additional soul search step is taken.
After drinking the soup brewed from Forgetfulness Water, with their minds already muddled, once their souls are searched, they confess everything.
“That’s truly comndable,” Yan Yu remarked.
“Thank you for the complint,” Chen Lingyun replied with a smile upon hearing the praise, “I’m quite confident in this system.”
“The best thing is that you didn’t get involved,” Yan Yu said, “If you had joined, you’d surely be ssing around.”
“I wouldn’t,” Chen Lingyun scoffed, “I would definitely be fair, strict, and impartial. After all, it’s easy to falsely accuse soone, but it’s more challenging to find out if soone is guilty or innocent.”
“In the beginning, you’d certainly be impartial,” Yan Yu mocked in an ‘I know you well’ tone, “Then you’d quickly get bored, and start intentionally stirring things up, like falsely exonerating the innocent and letting the guilty go free, just to see their expressions of grievance or evading justice.”
“Then suddenly enforce the law fairly, overturning the verdicts, and once again enjoy their expressions of relief or returning to Hell,” Chen Lingyun reflected, “When you put it that way, it indeed sounds quite interesting.”
“See, I knew it, you’re exactly the type who would do such mischievous things,” Yan Yu said disdainfully, “How is Hell? Take to see it.”
The two of them flew over Fengdu City using Sword Control, and saw a cliff at the back of the city.
On the cliff, six platforms of reincarnation were built, and Yinchai would escort the ghosts to different platforms according to different judgnt results, and then push them directly down.
Based on the ghosts’ sins and rits during their lifeti, so are reincarnated into wealthy households, so are born into ordinary families, so are reincarnated as birds and beasts, and so fall directly into Hell, awaiting their sentence to be served before beginning their next life.
All of this is now under Chen Lingyun’s jurisdiction.
The two of them flew down from the platform, quickly entering the first layer of Hell.
The Flooded Hell managed by Yun Jin.
Below, they saw the vast sea, waves raging, with no sight of any island.
Many punished souls struggled fiercely in the seawater, trying to keep their heads above water. But in the low air, many Yaksha Demons flew around. As soon as they saw a ghost head floating above, they would imdiately stab them back into the water with steel forks.
“Ghosts don’t need to breathe,” Chen Lingyun said leisurely, “But when their heads are subrged underwater, they still feel the pain of drowning.”
“They won’t die, but will suffer,” Yan Yu concluded, “It’s purely torture for torture’s sake.”
“That’s Hell for you,” Chen Lingyun said lightly, “They are here to serve their sentences, not for a vacation. I can’t make it a sunny beachside paradise, can I?”
She took Yan Yu to find a whirlpool, dove in, and in a spinning whirl, descended to the second level.
The Fire Burning Hell managed by Hongyu.
Here, soil and rocks ford into mountains, everywhere flas blazed wildly. The sentenced souls ran around, their feet scorched by countless blisters, soon burnt to char by the high temperatures.
Also, many large, fat ghostly monsters lumbered around. Their massive feet could shield them from the heat’s pain, and if they saw a punished ghostly creature, they’d pick them up and toss them onto the nearby fiery mountains.
“Burning is more painful and lasts longer than drowning,” Chen Lingyun said, “so the ghosts here are more…deeply guilty.”
“How deeply guilty?” Yan Yu asked.
“Can’t use the sa punishnt for killing one person and killing many, can we?” Chen Lingyun grinned.
The two passed through tunnels ford by fire and sulfur, quickly arriving at the third layer.
The Insect Devouring Hell managed by Tang Xiaolian.
This layer carries a Cthulhu-style feeling. The sentenced souls frantically fled, yet were surrounded by many insects, whose sharp mandibles ripped them into pieces, until they could no longer scream.
Then, enormous maggots erged from the ground, swallowed these fragnts, then excreted a complete punished soul.
Yan Yu looked a bit sickened. Tang Xiaolian’s other insects were still within his aesthetic scope, but this fat, soft, furry, with countless antennae, emitting a revolting stench contraption, just watching it was ntally burdenso.
“So those imprisoned here are truly heinous criminals,” he turned away from watching the insects and asked Chen Lingyun.
“Every ti they’re shredded into pieces, even if eventually sewn together, it causes irreparable damage to the soul,” Chen Lingyun responded, “after many dissections, the soul no longer holds the ability to reincarnate.”
“Therefore, starting at this level, prisoners are no longer pardoned. They will endure pain until they cease to exist.”
“You can ensure the souls imprisoned here have indeed committed enormous cris, right?” Yan Yu frowned.
“Of course not,” Chen Lingyun said slowly, “Wrongful convictions can never be completely avoided, but I can assure you that the number of wrongful convictions here will be controlled to a very, very small number.”
“Because of the Soul Searching Technique?”
“That’s right, because of the Soul Searching Technique.”
Yan Yu pondered for a mont, thinking that the Soul Searching Technique still seed reliable. By checking the mories of the criminals, if they’ve committed cris, they have; if they haven’t, they haven’t. It certainly seems more trustworthy than so physical law big-mory recovery technique.
“What about deeper levels of Hell?”
“They haven’t started building yet, haven’t figured out what thes to use,” Chen Lingyun suddenly laughed, “How about you find a few more wives, give so creative inspiration?”
“Get lost!”
Yan Yu returned to the Jinling Prefecture villa, starting to plan for the trip to Jinn Prefecture.
The Pear Blossom Courtyard is about to give in, deciding to accept Lu Contry’s proposal of extending the Purple Cloud Formation nodes to the peninsula, but requiring Yan Yu to participate in the negotiations personally, just like the Witch King Hu Minghua did back then.
It sounds a bit odd, even seems like an attempt to provoke tension between Yan Yu and Lu Contry, but actually it’s due to the judgnt made by Goryeo conglorates—they think Yan Yu is the more suitable for negotiation.
Thinking carefully, if they had to choose between Yan Yu and Chen Tianming for connections…it definitely wouldn’t be the latter since the old Taishan would really consu people until nothing remains, not even a bone.
“Who wants to go on a business trip to Jinn with ?” Yan Yu asked, “This ti, I can take three people, no more than that.”
“, , !” Zhao Yuanzhen imdiately raised his hand high, as if he wanted to poke the ceiling.
“I need to go back too,” Ye Jun said.
“Anyone else?” Yan Yu looked around and asked the others, “Last available spot.”
The girls hesitated, discussed quietly for quite so ti, then nominated one person:
Su Yunjin.
