“Look! That’s a human village.”

Galdi pointed into the distance and said happily.

He was pointing to a village of about a few dozen households. It was evening, and smoke was rising from every chimney.

“It’s really different from the plains!” Uen, next to him, chid in. “Look at those columns of smoke; the humans are lighting fires to cook.”

Galdi grinned widely, “If I rember correctly, this should be your first ti in human territory, right?”

Uen nodded, “Yes. Centurion, have you been here before?”

“Mmm,” Galdi said. “I’m sowhat familiar with this place. Ten years ago, when I was still a slave under Lord Nathaniel, I ca here with him, also through the territory of the Mason Clan.”

His gaze filled with mories and hatred. “Damn dwarves, greedy dwarves, only allowing us to pass through those winding caves, and they even demand a third of our spoils before letting us go back.”

Uen said, “Now their entire clan depends on us. If you ask , Lord Eugene is still too rciful. He should have enslaved all the Mason Clan mbers instead of treating them as allies or subordinates.”

Galdi shrugged, “Oh, you know, if they were to harass us from those tunnels, it would cause a lot of trouble for us in the mountains. The dwarves have been digging caves in the Rockies for a thousand years, who knows how many there are. If only there was so tool to collapse their tunnels, even just the entrance section, that would suffocate them.”

Galdi flicked his horsewhip. “Let’s not talk about this. As a newcor, how do you feel about the human territory?”

Uen replied, “It’s very quiet, very peaceful. The forests, fields, and hills are very rich, not empty and monotonous like the plains.”

Galdi laughed heartily, “If you like it, you can bring your family here to live…after we conquer this place. As a Warrior of the King’s Tent, you have that right.”

Uen’s face darkened, “My family… they returned to the Spirit of the Plains during the last white disaster.”

“I didn’t an to bring up your sad mories,” Galdi said apologetically.

“I’m fine, Lord Centurion.” A resolute expression appeared on Uen’s face. “I now fight for all orcs.”

Galdi patted his shoulder, “Once our people migrate here, life will get better.”

Uen asked with so eagerness, “Lord Centurion, when will we launch a large-scale attack on the human territories?”

“Don’t be anxious. Our current mission is to harass this area, to draw the humans’ attention away from Watcher’s Fortress. Then the Grand Chieftain’s offensive will face less resistance. Of course, after taking Watcher’s Fortress, we will also attack from our side, like a pair of pincers, clamping down tightly on the northeast of the Aldans.” 𐍂𝘼Nỗ฿ËS̈

Uen did not know what pincers were; there were too few iron tools on the plains, but he understood Galdi’s aning.

He looked forward to that day with all his heart.

“Alright!”

Galdi looked at the sun that was about to set. The afterglow dyed the western sky a fiery red.

“The ti for the hunt has co. Uen, blow our horn!”

Wooo…Wooo…!

The long, drawn-out sound of the horn spread through the forest.

Along with the sound of the horn, a burst of rapid hoofbeats rang out. A large number of figures left the cover of the trees, riding their horses freely across the human lands.

The orc cavalry launched an attack on the human village.

……

“In this month, there have been nine incidents of plunder!”

Knight Arthur looked grimly at the people in the room; they were all high-ranking officers of the Watcher’s Legion.

“A full nine villages and towns have suffered heavy losses under the orcs’ blades. Grain, money, population, the land we protect is bleeding!”

With a slap, his palm slamd heavily on the table before him.

“My lords, please allow to lead an army to clear out the orc marauders plaguing the northern mountains!”

Arthur’s disregard for etiquette made many of the officers’ faces turn quite ugly.

“Ahem!” His knightly ntor, Sir Hal Duke, coughed heavily.

Sir Duke was also the deputy commander of the Watcher’s Legion and was highly respected within the legion.

“Arthur, you may leave for now.”

Knight Arthur bowed deeply and strode out of the room.

The sound of the door closing was a bit heavy.

“Hmph, this forr squire of yours certainly has quite a temper.”

Sir Colin said with great dissatisfaction.

Sir Duke said, “Arthur is so angry only because of his adherence to the duties of a knight and a soldier.”

“However, the orcs’ activities this year are indeed different from usual. Gentlen!”

He looked around at everyone. “All along, it has only been in winter that small bands of orc ruffians would cross the Rocky Mountains and infiltrate our north for plunder, but it’s not winter now. It’s too abnormal. And according to eyewitnesses, their numbers are much greater than before.”

“Could it be…” soone guessed, “that the orcs have found a way to cross the Rocky Mountains in large numbers?”

“That would be terrible if that’s the case!”

“Impossible, the dwarves on the mountain won’t let too many orcs pass. You know, they are famously stubborn and obstinate.”

The eting room was filled with discussion.

“Sir Duke!”

An old voice sounded. It was the commander of the Watcher’s Legion, Duke Morton.

Everyone turned their gazes to him.

“The orcs’ activities behind our lines make feel vaguely uneasy.”

“We can’t just let it be. What do you think about drawing so troops from the fortress to defend the direction of the Rocky Mountains?”

“This…” Sir Duke hesitated.

The royal family had once dispatched many knights south to support the suppression of the southern rebellion, and they had not yet been “returned.”

He thought it over and over, and finally said, “Your Grace, according to intelligence, the King’s Tent on the plains is currently focused on Gabella.”

“I think… the pressure on Watcher’s Fortress should not be as great as before. Perhaps we can spare so troops to clean up our rear.”

The old duke nodded, “Then go and do it. We cannot ignore those civilians who have been brutally plundered.”

“Yes, Your Grace.”

After the eting, Sir Duke remained behind.

“Hal, is there sothing you wish to tell ?”

“Yes, my lord.”

Sir Duke looked at his superior with a grim expression.

“My lord, the orcs are growing stronger and stronger. I think it’s ti to stop those bastards.”

“You are talking about…”

“Controlling those bastards who are smuggling military equipnt to the plains. Otherwise, the orcs’ power will sooner or later reach a point we cannot control.”

The room imdiately fell into silence.

“Alas…”

The old duke let out a sigh, full of sorrow.

“Your words remind of Schroeder.”
