Capítulo 1609: Chapter 94: Fox and Mouse Ga (Part 3)_3

“I’ll go take a look,” Marvey wiped his mouth, rinsed it with the remaining wine in his cup, then tilted his head back to pour down the last drop, and walked out of the stable with a smile.

Siegfried also stood up and went to the stable’s entrance.

There, a well-dressed young man stood at so distance from the door, holding his coat’s hem in both hands, tiptoeing to peer inside the stable.

Marvey approached him, and the two started talking.

Siegfried watched them intently.

After exchanging a few words, Marvey turned around, laughing as he called out to Siegfried, “Haha, got so work! This young master here has invited us to perform!”

“No, no, no,” the young man waved his arms, hurriedly correcting, “I only want to invite you, Mr. Marvey, not your rcenaries.”

Siegfried approached the two, responding coolly, “The two of us are inseparable.”

“If you invite just , I can bring my friend along for free,” Marvey said with a laugh, patting the young man’s shoulder, “How can a troubadour not bring a bodyguard?”

“But if the two of you go together…” The young man looked pitiful, “Won’t that…”

“Then forget it,” Siegfried interrupted him.

The young man hesitated for a mont, and finally gritted his teeth, making up his mind, “Alright, we’ll do that.”

He then pleaded, “This ti, please perform for the ladies and girls, please, please don’t cause any trouble.”

“No problem, no problem,” Marvey said, his eyebrows dancing with excitent.

The performance venue was in a small town at the foot of the mountain. Marvey reported to the monastery, and the three of them set off imdiately.

Although the White Spring Monastery was famous as a place of recuperation, it did not offer accommodations.

During so festivals—like Easter—when it allowed pilgrims to stay, it only permitted won to stay inside.

Therefore, visitors stayed down the mountain and walked up to drink spring water after sunrise.

Over ti, the village at the foot of the mountain gradually expanded into a small town. So wealthy people simply built houses in the town to live in during their recuperation.

It was to such a three-story residence that the young man led Marvey and Siegfried.

In Paratu, especially within the Newly Reclaid Land, houses with more than two stories were rare.

And the residence before them was distinct from Paratu’s three-story houses — it was a typical Sea Blue style design — the first floor had exceptionally high ceilings, almost one and a half tis the height of a normal house, with a gate wide enough for a carriage to pass through; the second and third floors were of normal height, both facing the street with balconies.

“It’s here,” the young man said, wiping the sweat from his forehead, cautiously eyeing Siegfried while his gaze fell on the sword at Siegfried’s waist, “The weapon… could you please leave it outside.”

Siegfried said nothing.

Marvey laughed and interjected, wrapping an arm around the young man’s shoulder, “Hey, this sword is as important as a companion’s life to him, let him keep it, maybe he can even put on a little swordplay show for the ladies.”

The young man looked troubled, sneaking a glance at the Blonde Swordsman before finally conceding, “Alright.”

With that, he led the two into the grand entrance.

Once inside, Siegfried beca even more convinced of his suspicions — this was indeed a Sea Blue style building.

Because rather than leading indoors, the entrance led to a courtyard.

Only the Sea Blue People would construct their buildings this way:

Surrounding the courtyard with structures on all sides;

The first floor kept uninhabited, used solely as a warehouse, also serving as a moisture barrier, thus requiring a carriage-wide door;

Only above the first floor were the living and dwelling spaces, often built with three or four stories because a large family lived in the estate;

The end result being that the estate beca a fortress.

After the war ended thirty years ago, there was a surge in Vineta of purchasing properties in Paratu for younger sons to manage.

Thus, many families in Paratu, especially in the Newly Reclaid Land, are branches of prestigious Vineta families.

Therefore, seeing a Sea Blue style building in the Newly Reclaid Land was not entirely beyond Siegfried’s understanding.

Yet the Sea Blue People built fortress-like houses primarily because of scarce land, forcing them to claim space vertically.

And in a place like the Newly Reclaid Land, vast and sparsely populated, building such a house suggests to Siegfried that the owner was hosick.

After entering the courtyard, Siegfried beca even more convinced of his assessnt — this was indeed a classic Sea Blue building.

The walls seed to close in from every direction, leaving only a small expanse of sky overhead.

Suddenly, Siegfried ca to a halt.

Seeing Siegfried stop, Marvey halted as well, a puzzled look directed at him.

The young man leading them also turned around stiffly, his face pale and sweating profusely, stamring, “What…what’s wrong?”

Siegfried fixed his eyes on the young man, staying silent, then suddenly, without warning, lunged forward to grab him.

The young man staggered back, avoiding the Blonde Swordsman’s grip, then, like a slippery eel, scurried towards the stairs in a roll and crawl.

Siegfried leaped to intercept.

But it was already too late; missing the first strike ant no second chance.

The windows on the second floor of the courtyard burst open, and without any shout or warning, a crossbow bolt gleaming with cold light shot directly at Siegfried.

Siegfried twisted at the last second to dodge the shot from the shadows, dragging Marvey to a dead-end corner of the courtyard.

In that short mont of delay, the young man had already fled up the stairs and vanished into the darkness behind the second-floor door.

Siegfried turned his head to see that the grand entrance they had co through was already shut with a boom.

Everything happened so quickly that even soone as quick-witted as Marvey found himself stunned.

But the two had no ti to think.
