Capítulo 1585: Chapter 82

“Then it had better truly be good news,” Winters replied, ever more affably, “Representative Kai.”

“Major Magash’s representative just gave a clear answer: Riverside County fully supports your proposal to ‘establish a comprehensive system for assisting, settling, and pensioning wounded and retired soldiers,'”

Kai Morland spoke rapidly, fearing the Blood Wolf would turn and leave,

“Plus my vote, as long as Bard submits the proposal to the Standing Committee, it can pass now. As for the Grand Council, rest assured, there will be no issues.”

Winters put away his smile.

It was indeed good news, but to Winters, this so-called good news was laden with malice.

—————–

Recently, the theoretical highest authority of the New Republic—the National Assembly of the Republic of Paratu—has been essentially in a state of suspension.

The spoils of this expedition—most of Westwood Province and the entirety of the Northern Foothills Province—have yet to be integrated into the New Republic’s political system, and the National Assembly still has not reached a conclusion.

And any observant person clearly sees:

The National Assembly cannot reach a conclusion? Ridiculous! The National Assembly doesn’t even have the qualification to discuss;

Except for the representative from Maplestone City, all representatives are puppets controlled by the military;

Even the representative from Maplestone City has very limited independence;

What discussion reaching no conclusion? In fact, it’s the “Four Pillars” that haven’t reached a consensus!

Newly acquired territories, should they be given seats in the National Assembly?

If not, why call it the “National Assembly”?

If yes, then how many seats?

As it stands in the Newly Reclaid Land, seats in the Grand Council are allocated based on population, and seats in the Standing Committee based on region?

Thus, in the Grand Council, the representatives from the Newly Reclaid Land would imdiately beco a minority;

anwhile, in the Standing Committee, Magash Colvin’s single vote would beco nine votes, instantly becoming the most powerful “pillar”;

Would the other three pillars just sit back and let this happen?

Obviously not, otherwise the National Assembly would have “discussed” a conclusion long ago.

If a new set of rules for distributing parliantary seats is required, then the matters to negotiate would be too nurous to count.

Many who are hostile to the New Republic believe that although the Fourth Republic—despite the New Republic’s insistence as the sole regi established according to the principles of the Alliance Charter—has just been born, its day of downfall is approaching soon.

—————–

Naturally, Winters also understood how many who were excluded from political power, yet held sway over public opinion and economic power, were waiting to witness the joke of the Four Pillars, the New Army, and the New Republic.

Even those rely “waiting to watch the joke” could be considered benevolently neutral; fanning the flas and stirring up trouble was more their norm.

Hence, Winters put away his smile.

“What do you want?” he asked straightforwardly.

“If I say I want nothing, you surely wouldn’t believe ,” Kai Morland shrugged, “If I must say, I want the National Assembly to resu normal operations.”

Winters neither agreed nor disagreed, only gesturing with his eyes for Kai Morland to continue speaking.

Kai Morland knew he had at least piqued the Blood Wolf’s curiosity, so he slowed down a bit:

“Let’s be open and honest, sir.

“Currently, although the Grand Council already has several hundred mbers, only five truly have a voice.

“Ranked by the volu of their voices, the first four are you, General Gessa, General Skur, and Colonel Magash, and I barely count as the fifth.

“It’s not a problem for only five people to speak—small etings discuss big matters, large etings decide on small issues; that’s politics as usual.

“But the current situation is that the discussions among you four have reached a stalemate over the issues of Westwood Province and the Northern Foothills Province.

“Everything else has now beco just bargaining chips in your negotiations. Without a result, you don’t speak.

“And I, the so-called fifth person, am not a complete person.

“You four can speak when you want, so you are complete;

“But I’m different; I can only have a voice when you four speak.

“Yet now you four hold closed-door etings, not letting speak, nor letting listen, effectively stripping away my last bit of rights as a person.”

“You four are also taking too long to reach any results,” Kai Morland tilted his head and said sincerely, “Do you expect to just sit and wait indefinitely?”

“Can’t listen in? I feel like your information is even more inford than mine.” Winters was unmoved, “Can’t speak? Then what are you doing now?”

“I’m figuring out how to get the National Assembly to resu normal operations,” Kai Morland replied with a bitter smile.

“Oh,” Winters said.

Realizing he was losing the Blood Wolf’s attention, Kai Morland had to speak more straightforwardly: “Currently, there are many saying in the city that there’s a rift within the New Army.”

“Baseless words,” Winters replied calmly, “Not worth refuting.”

“Don’t be so quick to deny it, I understand you want to maintain New Army unity,” Kai Morland mustered the courage, “but if that’s not the case, why would a proposal to arrange jobs for able-bodied wounded soldiers and provide care for those who are not be stalled?”

“An unsubmitted proposal,” Winters replied with composure, “How can it be stalled?”
