Chapter 1552: Chapter 73: Siege (43)

[Three Days Ago]

[Reserve Officer Battle eting]

After carefully explaining the battle deploynt, Winters faced all the reserve officers to summarize his first lesson, which also served as a pre-battle speech to the reserve officers.

He paused for a mont and began with these words: “The Big Square Formation is not only for passive defense, nor is it only ant to be passively beaten.

“If you are fortunate enough to witness the advance of Monta’s Long Spear Soldiers, you will be amazed by their agility, speed, and impact. Even broken terrain rely slightly delays them and cannot stop them.”

“However,” Winters changed his tone, “the United Province’s Square Formation is not Ned Smith’s Square Formation.

“The United Provincials are obsessed with historical inventions, weaving various myths to claim all the credit of victory in the sovereignty war for themselves.

“Lies repeated too many tis, to the point where they themselves have forgotten what the truth is.

“They even firmly believe—the Duke Butcher was defeated by them alone, the Madman Emperor was defeated by them alone, and the sovereignty war was won by them alone.”

“Little do they know!” Winters forcefully slapped the map board, causing all listeners to instinctively flinch, “A Big Square Formation without Paratu Cavalry support is not Ned Smith’s Big Square Formation!

“Without the concerted effort of the Various Republics, there would be no victory in the sovereignty war either!”

“The United Province Army is not the successor of the Allied Army!” His proclamation was deafening, “And certainly not the Allied Army!!!”

In the open-air classroom, there was dead silence. Not only did the reserve officers—many of whom didn’t even understand the true aning of Winters’ words—fall silent, but even the formal officers listening were taken aback by Winters’ speech.

Because Winters Montagne’s words officially expelled the United Province Army from the “Allied Army lineage.”

In other words, it was uprooting the foundation of the United Province Army legally.

The battle has been raging to this day, and even if the Paratu People and United Provincials call each other puppet armies and rebels, feigning eternal hostility, battling fiercely on the battlefield.

They still have a sliver of brotherly camaraderie that cannot be severed. Both sides tacitly acknowledge the other as Ned Smith’s successors.

For instance, on Magit Island, even on the most intense battle days, both sides would agree on tis to recover corpses and return remains.

Even Gessa Adonis and Jansen Cornelius followed tradition, exchanging letters and gifts—though Gessa didn’t even open them, directly throwing Cornelius’ letters and gifts into the River Shijian.

But for Winters Montagne to be so ruthless today, publicly severing ties with the United Province Army, is unprecedented since the founding of the New Army.

The graduates from the Army Academy present were montarily unsure how to react.

Suddenly, clear applause rang out.

It was Colonel John Jeska who was applauding, and not only was he applauding, but Jeska stood up.

“Well said!” The Colonel comnted expressionlessly, “Soone should have said this long ago!”

Seeing the headmaster applaud, the reserve officers quickly followed suit.

In an instant, the open-air venue thundered with applause.

Winters, half-smiling, tapped the map board, the sound of one tap overwhelming all applause and instantly silencing the venue.

“Gentlen, don’t rush to applaud,” Winters Montagne swept his gaze over the venue, with strong provocation, sharply asking, “I said the United Province Army is not the successor of the Allied Army, and you applauded. Then, ask yourselves honestly, do you think—you are the successors of the Allied Army?”

The venue fell silent again.

“Houdel, stand up,” Winters straightforwardly called, “Answer , do you think you are the successor of the Allied Army?”

Poor Houdel, instantly becoming the focus of all eyes, though he enjoyed being in the lilight, definitely not in this situation or manner.

“Um…” Houdel stamred, completely unlike his usual quick-witted self, “I guess… I guess so.”

“Why?” Winters pressed further.

“Uh… I…” Houdel was utterly ashad, “Don’t… know…”

“Sit,” Winters waved his hand.

Houdel, as if receiving a great pardon, fell onto the ground and instantly disappeared into the “crowd.”

“You may be the successors of the Allied Army,” Winters said as he paced the podium, “But many among you have not proven this point yet.”

“What is the Allied Army?” Winters asked loudly, “Gentlen? What is the Allied Army? Think carefully about this question! What—is—the—Allied Army?”

This question left many present sowhat bewildered.

Because it’s a question even a three-year-old knows the answer to:

The army organized and led by Ned Smith during the sovereignty war was called the Allied Army.

And today, facing the seed and hope of the New Republic’s army, Winters gave another answer:

“An army fighting for itself is not the Allied Army, nor is an army fighting for a land, a city, or a nation the Allied Army.

“An army fighting for others, for all people, for the entire Alliance, is the Allied Army.”

He looked directly into the eyes of everyone present, “An army fighting for others, for all people, for the entire Alliance—this is the Allied Army!”

After a brief silence, applause rang out again, and then everyone was applauding.

But this ti, the first to applaud wasn’t Colonel Jeska, but the formal officers present: Roson Jura, Paradi Rima, Richard Mason…
