Capítulo 1542: Chapter 69: Siege (39)_3

[Loyalty] The best auxiliary cavalry squadron, Alda kept it at hand. The other auxiliary cavalry that were scattered and temporarily without missions were also gathered by Alda to form a temporary cavalry squadron.

Combined, it makes up two squadrons of cavalry, now commanded by Major Anseum of Liege, waiting behind the high ground.

Alda prepares to give the Sun Rams a surprise.

[Winters’ Tent]

[Officer Combat eting]

“Are you saying,” Major Paladi of Thunder Group County asked suspiciously, “that not only should we not ambush the Mudders’ marching column, but we should actively give up favorable terrain, letting the Mudders comfortably enter the position.”

“If we could replicate the Black Forest battle, it would be ideal,” Winters patiently explained, “but we probably can’t stealthily get within two kiloters of [Loyalty].

“The battles we’ve studied, Colonel Alda has studied too, he’ll definitely try to avoid the fate of Valus.

“Once he senses we intend to consu [Loyalty], he might imdiately retreat to Jade Crossing, board the ships and leave.”

Winters rarely speaks in long and complex sentences, “We can’t bet that Colonel Alda will continue gambling [Loyalty] will defeat us in a field battle once he realizes we want to engage him in such a battle.”

“But we can’t just hand over the position! If he occupies that high ground, it’ll be a hassle to reclaim it!” Paladi still had doubts, nudging Captain Woods beside him who remained silent, “Frank, do you agree?”

Although Woods Frank was just a captain, he was deeply trusted by the officer corps of Mont Blanc County, and often handled many important tasks, allowing him to attend the officer eting despite his rank.

Woods hesitated for a mont, then softly said, “I think Major Montaigne makes sense.”

“Are you ‘defecting’ too?” Paladi uttered in exasperation. He wasn’t really criticizing Woods for defecting; rather, due to their strong battlefield camaraderie from the River Valley Village battle, he joked around quite freely.

“It’s not ‘defecting,'” Woods quietly defended, “but rather seeing Montaigne’s logic.

“What we think is advantageous terrain, Alda Major won’t think so. What we deem disadvantageous terrain, Alda Major won’t think so either.”

Woods concluded, “So if it’s not a position that’s easy to defend and hard to attack, Colonel Alda wouldn’t willingly step into it.”

Paladi rolled his eyes.

“Senior,” Winters asked patiently, “Is there anything else you’re concerned about?”

“Nothing,” Paladi glanced at others in the tent, helplessly shrugged, “You’ve persuaded everyone to your side, I can only agree.”

“I still hope for your heartfelt acknowledgnt.”

“I wish for my cousin’s heartfelt love!” Paladi scoffed, folding his arms on the table, “Rest assured, once I’ve nodded, I won’t hold you back during the fight.”

He fumbled impatiently with his pipe, “Let’s quickly discuss how you’ll fight next!”

Having received the answers he wanted, Winters nodded and continued, “We can’t assu Alda Major will discover our offensive late, so after the attack is launched, we must swiftly control the 50-high opposite the 20 and 30-high.

The 50-high refers to the most perilous height on the east side of the road, while the 20 and 30 are the two small heights opposite the 50-high.

50, 20, and 30 are their approximate heights; Mason has asured and surveyed all three heights with his team.

“This task is entrusted to you,” Winters looked across the map table to another officer, “Senior Hudson.”

Major Hudson of Mont Blanc County didn’t imdiately agree, pondering for a mont before nodding, “With just my cavalry, it’s a bit stretched. If Alda places a square on the 20 or 30 high, my n could only slowly wear them out with handguns. But rest assured, even if I have to bite it with my teeth, I’ll fire the first shot for you.”

“I’ve considered such circumstances—if Colonel Alda scatters his troops, it’s actually beneficial to us,” Winters confidently said, “So I’ll have Captain Polgar accompany your actions.

“If Colonel Alda allocates large forces to control the 20 and 30-high, Joseph Polgar’s sharpshooters will assist you in defeating them.”

With that, Winters leaned back and called outside the tent, “Co in, Joseph.”

A stout young man lifted the tent curtain and entered.

The youth had a broad, round face, thick lips, and large hands. His upper body wore a hunter’s outfit with tassels, while his lower body donned leg gaiters and low-waist soft shoes.

Compared to the others in the tent who had a deep-rooted military aura, the youth seed more like an honest farr.

His skin, hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes were sun-bleached, embodying the image of a sturdy country lad with bulky calves.

Suddenly appearing before a group of “educated” formal officers, being collectively scrutinized, the young man seed a bit uneasy.
