Chapter 1340: Chapter 78: Rebuilding the Nation (6)

“…Grof Magnus was preditated, and his garrison secretly supported him by blockading Kingsfort overnight—they didn’t even wait until dawn when all the legislators went to the Grand Council. Only when Grof Magnus’s lackeys ca to arrest people did many legislators realize the tragic defeat of the governnt army in the Newly Reclaid Land…”

While speaking, Kai Morland’s hands gripped his knees tightly.

He restrained his emotional fluctuations, striving to remain calm and composed. Nevertheless, the others could easily see from his body language how frightened he was.

After the battle at River Valley Village, Kingsfort’s governnt imdiately blocked the land passage to the Newly Reclaid Lands Province,

so that the military and political officials of the Newly Reclaid Land could only learn about the process of the false Speaker Grof Magnus “purging localist legislators and welcoming the United Provinces Army” through rumors in civilian letters.

Through Kai Morland’s firsthand account, the three officers present finally saw through the mist covering the events of the “Second Kingsfort Coup.”

“It seems that Grof Magnus has so similarities with newly graduated officer cadets.” Lieutenant Colonel Magash Colvin looked at his fellow officers jokingly: “Although the ‘first ti’ was awkward, he learned a lot of lessons. So by the ‘second ti,’ he beca much more proficient.”

Lieutenant Colonel Magash attempted to liven the atmosphere with a risqué joke, but among his three intended listeners:

Winters didn’t get it, because the unfortunate Captain Montaigne never had the chance to attend the “victory march”—the decadent, hedonistic graduation celebration trip.

As an old-fashioned person, Colonel Skur klen blushed slightly and didn’t dare to respond;

As for Colonel Gaisa Adonis, he wasn’t at all amused by Lieutenant Colonel Magash’s vulgar joke.

“You say Grof was preditated and arrested all the opposition in one night.” Colonel Gaisa stared at Kai Morland, his scar-covered half-face twitching, making him look quite intimidating.

He loudly questioned the latter: “Then how did you manage to escape?”

“Thanks to Major Claire Ronald, who warned in advance.” Kai Morland was not intimidated by Colonel Gaisa and calmly replied: “I changed my clothes and pretended to be the Major’s adjutant. Following the Major, I escaped from Kingsfort overnight.”

Colonel Gaisa was not willing to let Kai Morland off the hook easily. He aggressively asked: “But now it’s only you here, where’s Ronald?”

“I don’t know.” Kai’s eyes dimd.

“You don’t know?” Colonel Gaisa’s tone grew even harsher.

“At that ti, Grof’s lackeys were close behind. Major Ronald switched horses with and turned back to divert the pursuers… so I don’t know how the Major is now.” Kai Morland said with reddening eyes, emotionally: “But if not for Major Ronald’s sacrifice and help, I wouldn’t have the chance to sit here today.”

Seeing this, Lieutenant Colonel Magash took out a silk handkerchief from his chest and gently placed it in front of Kai Morland.

Kai Morland gratefully nodded, took the handkerchief, and wiped the corner of his eyes.

Colonel Gaisa sneered disdainfully: “Save it! Who knows if you betrayed Ronald just to escape back to the Newly Reclaid Land.”

“Colonel.” Kai Morland put down the handkerchief and t Gaisa Adonis’s gaze: “I can swear by my father’s grave—everything I said today is true.”

“Really?” Gaisa sneered: “But I don’t believe you.”

Under the table, Kai Morland clenched his fists, using the most sincere tone possible: “What do I need to do for you to believe ?”

“No matter what you do, I will never trust you.” Gaisa responded mockingly.

The tension in the conference room was growing, Colonel Skur looked at Winters Montagne, who brought Kai Morland before everyone, hoping for him to act.

However, Winters remained silent, observing indifferently the suddenly aggressive Colonel Gaisa and the humiliated, struggling Kai Morland under the Colonel’s attack.

Since the mont Winters t Colonel Gaisa at the entrance of the town hall in the morning, he keenly noticed that the “Honorable Legislator” didn’t reveal everything to him.

At the very least, Kai Morland deliberately hid his interpersonal relationship status.

Because Colonel Gaisa imdiately showed undisguised strong hostility upon seeing Kai Morland;

Lieutenant Colonel Magash seed very surprised to see Kai Morland enter the conference room, as if he hadn’t known in advance—though this could very well be a pretense.

Because, after the surprise, Lieutenant Colonel Magash warmly welcod Kai Morland, embracing and kissing the latter with great enthusiasm.

It seed that the two had quite a close private relationship in the past.

In this case, it would be suspicious if Lieutenant Colonel Magash didn’t know Kai Morland had already returned to the Newly Reclaid Land.

Conversely, Colonel Skur klen showed complete shock upon seeing Kai Morland.

Followed by suspicion, which led most of the ti, Colonel Skur’s gaze rested on Winters rather than Kai Morland.

Colonel Skur seed to want to decipher from Winters’s face what his plans with Kai Morland might be.
