Capítulo 1825: Chapter 1824: Disaster

In fact, in the eyes of the Edwards family, the true orchestrator behind everything was none other than Shard, who had barely spoken. The Furen brothers knew Shard was not part of the Edwards, but the Edwards brothers had no idea up until now.

Prior to the banquet, gan and Audrey crafted an amulet using their hair and blood and gave it to Shard, allowing Edwards bloodline mbers to perceive him as one of their own when he was near.

However, for all those attending today, whether Shard was indeed a family mber was irrelevant; his declaration to lead them in defying the ancestors was what mattered most. The Circle Sorcerers, who regarded Shard as a “God Summoner” of Thirteen Rings, understood keenly that not even the combined might of the entire family could contend with the frightening Diviner. Thus, there had to be at least one mber capable of confronting the ancestors.

For now, Shard seed the best candidate.

By the ti the banquet was halfway through, Durut Giles finally arrived with the spirit of Laster Edwards in tow, fashionably late. Neither of them particularly wished to attend; the forr wasn’t even part of the Edwards family, having committed grave robbery, and the little girl’s spirit simply felt all of it quite dull.

gan had given the Green siblings special eye drops ahead of ti, allowing them to see Laster’s spirit as well. Once Shard made the introduction upon their arrival, the Edwards brothers and Furen brothers imdiately stood up in surprise to greet them.

To the Sixth Generation, the early deceased eldest daughter of the Second Generation was the highest-ranking elder aside from the ancestors. Her appearance today reassured them that the fight against the ancestors wasn’t a foolish fantasy; they had ample strength by their side.

Of course, despite the serious discussions at the banquet, everyone didn’t forget to chat about their own lives and their forebears’ lives outside of their hotowns.

Even the little girl, Laster Edwards, showed so concern for her brother’s descendants, listening intently as if an adult. To Shard, she seed more like she was trying to display her “authority” beside Durut Giles, a child’s fantasy of growing up.

“So, Great-uncle Hohenheim lived in the Southern Carsonrick Islands after leaving Green Lake, Great-uncle Edward moved to Velindale City in Carsonrick, and Great-uncle Alphonse wandered as a traveling artist across the Old Continent, even reaching the New World, until he settled east of Draleon twenty years after the Green Lake Central Island incident, marrying later on?”

Mr. Soren Green summarized the whereabouts of the ancestors, leaving all present rather wistful:

“Grandmother likely never imagined her brothers would travel so far. She hoped each year for soone to write to her, yet knew herself that it was improbable—nobody left an address upon their departure.”

“Grandfather and his peers likely omitted an address intentionally. They seed vaguely aware of so family secrets, though it was impossible for them to know the ancestors had already set everything in motion back then.”

Grass Edwards comnted, and Eric Forun nodded in agreent:

“Based on current circumstances, our grandfathers were likely ordinary people. If not for great-grandfather’s drive for the children’s freedom, which summoned the fog that enveloped Green Lake Central Island, our grandfathers might have passed away, never knowing the family’s secrets.”

“Our father’s generation hoped we would live well; we mustn’t defy their last wishes. We owe it to our fathers to let them rest in peace.”

gan added in a gentle voice, including Laster Edwards, as everyone nodded slightly. Durut Giles knew this included the girl floating beside him.

Dining wasn’t the most critical part of this gathering, yet it didn’t prevent Shard and the orange cat disguised as a dog from enjoying the al thoroughly.

The banquet stretched from 6:30 to nearly 8:00, as the scenery outside shifted from a city bathed in sunset to streets illuminated by gas lamps cutting through the night.

They had much they wished to say, much they desired to share. At precisely 7:56:23, Shard was discussing with the Edwards brothers about acquiring the Mirror Association’s unwanted Fragnts of Poem Chapter—gan and Audrey desired the Witch Empress’s relics. The Edwards brothers each were conversing with the Furen brothers about suddenly acquiring Spatial Power in dreams, one catching up with Durut Giles about his impressions when he first landed on the island, Mr. Green was adding dishes in the kitchen, while Ms. Green was sadly exchanging stories of her life with Laster Edwards when suddenly all the present Circle Sorcerers froze, collectively turning to look toward the southeast corner of the room.

What they focused on was not inside the room but beyond the street that lay after the next.

“Enhanced Spatial Awareness!”

Shard closed his eyes, expanding his perception across the region, then comprehended what was about to transpire:

“Massive spatial disarray—a presence is arriving from afar!”

“Here” didn’t refer to their current street, but rather the southeast.

Seeing this, gan splashed the wine in her cup onto the table. Instead of soaking the dishes, the liquid ford a red screen on the tabletop, displaying scenes of distant abnormal spatial area within.

The initial seconds showed the ordinary nightscape of Green Lake City. As lightning flashed outside, followed by thundering booms, the image faltered, seemingly rging the cityscape with a railroaded field.

The train roared forward, appearing directly upon the street. Amidst the trendous clamor outside, the train from an unknown distance charged straight into the avenue at the heart of Green Lake City.

The train’s astonishing speed allowed it to slide straight half a block before finally coming to a stop. The damage to the buildings by the street was not significant as the train slid along the center of the wide street, causing little more than damage to signs and windows on either side. The main damage was nearly all of the street’s paving tiles being destroyed.

The true disaster struck the people on the train, and while those in the first three carriages had a small chance of survival, those in the fourth and fifth carriages, engulfed by an unstable space, were certainly dood.

The people around the table watched the scene in shock, and Charles Follen, the one closest to the window, stood up and went to the window, looking at the smoke drifting into the night sky under the moon:

“My God! This is…”

“In the future, such incidents may beco more frequent, although train accidents of this low probability won’t be very common.”

At this mont, the most rational seed to be gan, who refilled her glass and stared at the water curtain on the table:

“The Church is going to have a busy night with such a commotion.”

The Furen brothers were taken aback; Eric Follen stood up as well:

“Aunt, and cousin Green, thank you for your hospitality. Please forgive us, we must leave first.”

gan nodded, so the two brothers left first. Following them, the Edwards brothers from the Mirror Association also got up to say their farewells:

“Aunt, Uncle, and cousin Green, the Church should send people here to investigate. We cannot stay nearby for long. Thank you for your hospitality, if you need to contact us, do so in the sa way as this ti. I will inform you of any updates from the association.”

They bid farewell politely and hurriedly left. gan, lacking enthusiasm, looked at the people remaining at the table, just as Mr. Green returned from adding more dishes. He t the two pairs of brothers who left early in the corridor and understood that the gathering was over:

“There will be another opportunity.”

He said, sitting next to his sister. Durut Giles looked worriedly at the smoke rising into the night sky outside the window, while Laster clapped happily around gan’s water curtain, probably thinking it was so magic trick.

Shard stood up:

“I’ll go downstairs for a look; I’ll be back soon.”

Saying so, he picked up little Mia, who was eating sothing, and gan nodded:

“Be careful, the area might be temporarily under lockdown.”

“I understand.”

The lockdown wasn’t just to prevent anything dangerous from the unstable spatial connection from entering the Green Lake Region from beyond the stable spatial barrier but also to prevent the spread of news. In a ti without everyday items like telephones, restricting people’s movents was the best way to obstruct the spread of information.

Shard placed the reluctant cat on his shoulder and hurried downstairs. By this ti, the Furen brothers had already left the inn, but Shard encountered the Edwards brothers on the first floor.

They knew Shard was going downstairs to check out the situation, and they exchanged a few casual words when parting at the inn’s entrance:

“Such a nearly natural phenonon of spatial instability, even if the Prophet’s Society could predict it, there aren’t many people in the material world who could prevent it from happening, at most stopping the train.”

Wood Edwards had a rather complex expression:

“I wonder if the casualties in this incident will eventually be attributed to the ancestors.”

The brothers waved to Shard as they bade farewell and left leftward along the street. Shard stood under the lamp at the inn’s entrance, watching their backs, then saw a middle-aged man in a black coat, holding onto a silk top hat, suddenly step out from the alley ahead in their direction.

The middle-aged man almost collided with the Edwards brothers because all three were walking too quickly. So they all raised their heads; one side wanted to apologize, the other wanted to see clearly who was in front of them.

Thus, Dr. Bill Schneider made eye contact with the one-eyed pair of brothers.
