Chapter 1796: Chapter 1795: Ghoul Brawl
The most important raw material for making glass is sand, and the sand for the City of Glass cos from the Yalahar Desert directly to the south of the city. However, making glass requires more than just sand, and one of the main reasons Mikaela Ironworks City beca the "City of Glass" is that it had an abundance of li mines locally.
The servants, attendants, and workers who were moved were not driven by the Grey Glove to work in the mines; instead, they were relocated to the Hensinger Mine Area on the South Shore of Green Lake. This area is the largest village north of the City of Glass, and the Grey Glove found a small farmhouse at the end of a country road far from the village. Even if Shard didn’t co to investigate, those who had cleared their nas would soon regain their freedom anyway.
The journey was quite long, and Shard borrowed a horse to ride outside the city. With Enhanced Spatial Awareness and a map, he wasn’t worried about getting lost, even in the unfamiliar countryside.
But at 10:30 that morning, while riding through the countryside towards the farmhouse, Shard saw unnatural smoke billowing from the fenced buildings along the field ridges.
Worried about endangering the borrowed horse, he hid it in a nearby forest. Rushing towards the farmhouse, he indeed found it on fire.
The farmhouse was situated on a small hill in the fields, and Shard ran up the road, only to be t by a blood-covered man stumbling towards him with a handgun, as if fleeing for his life:
"Monsters! Monsters!"
His injuries were so severe that his hoarse voice signified that life was slipping away. He collapsed to the ground before he even got close to Shard, who discovered upon examination that the man had already died.
"The handgun magazine is empty, the barrel overheated, fired all the bullets. The black marks on his face... poisoned?"
There were no fatal wounds on the body, only a bite mark on the neck. The foul sll emanating from it indicated to Shard that this was the toxin of a ghoul.
"What’s going on?"
He abandoned the body and continued towards the farmhouse, preparing his spellcasting materials. In just a few minutes, the fire had consud the entire farmhouse. Shard saw dozens of bodies strewn across the farmhouse courtyard, as well as a large number of deceased bodies burning inside the flaming buildings.
He closed his eyes, and the ground revealed no signs of beating hearts. Beneath his feet, there seed to be a cellar where a faint heartbeat could still be detected, though clearly, the person was in mortal danger.
anwhile, three hunched figures erged slowly from the flas of the burning barn, low house, and stable. The fierce fire licked their bodies but failed to harm them.
These were three ghouls, though similar to Elder Green, their bodies had not undergone significant mutation, retaining mostly human features. However, their skin appeared ash-white, their eyes turned a murky yellow, and their skin was wrinkled like an octogenarian.
Each of the three bore strong elental traces, even containing Whisper Elents. Positioned to the left, right, and front, these three monsters moved slowly but kept their eyes fixed on Shard, coordinating seamlessly as they advanced towards him, one step at a ti.
Standing at the farmstead gate, Shard placed his hand on the pendant on his chest, ntally counting down three, two, one, then as the ghouls lunged at him in an instant, he pulled the pendant forward:
"Praise the Death Angel... What?"
Even when confronting hundreds of Water Ghosts, the blessing power of this amulet could sweep all undead away in one strike. But this ti, in the face of the pendant’s glimr, the three ghouls rely instinctively dodged to the ground, showing hardly any sign of discomfort.
Surprised and suspicious, Shard quickly understood. He put away the pendant and took a step back:
"Sirs, may I have the pleasure of knowing your identities? Perhaps I know your relatives?"
The ghouls didn’t respond, pouncing towards Shard again from three directions. Shard raised his hand to slash out a crossed moonlight, only to find that only two of the ghouls lunged at him.
His eyes widened as he stepped forward, then suddenly appeared deeper in the burning farmhouse courtyard. anwhile, the ghoul attempting a sneak attack from behind via spatial movent missed its target.
The battle had just begun, as the rolling heat wave wrapped one man and three ghouls in the spring breeze, with the ghouls weaving and crawling on the ground and then disappearing from the original spot altogether.
The yellow Moonlight Longsword appeared in Shard’s hand, followed by a Heaton Sigil radiating with flowing light, blocking the ghouls erging from the three directions of left, right, and back. In the explosive golden light flow, the ghouls were knocked back in unison, and the ensuing Spatial Stabilization Aura completely thwarted any further spatial jumps.
"Lagre’s Jump!"
Shard appeared beside the ghoul that had been knocked away to the left, as the descending moonlight remained bright in the crackling flas.
With a clanging sound, the longsword hit the ghoul’s neck, but it only left a white mark on the creature’s skin.
"Blade of Chaotic Ti!"
The second sword light slashed down, but only severed two slender fingers from the ghoul. The ghoul opened its mouth, trying to bite Shard’s neck, but was then kicked away by Shard like a cannonball, crashing through the wall and flying into the burning granary.
The remaining two ghouls behind did not continue to approach Shard, but crouched on all fours and followed through the broken wall into the burning granary. Shard took a deep breath, holding his sword as he plunged into the rolling heat waves.
All around was a raging fire, the crackling burns seed to beco the only sound in the world. Shard, clad in nurous blessings, was unafraid of the high temperature and heat waves, only needing to be extra cautious of his clothing.
And within this burning structure, the empty space in the center of the building was reachable without any items placed. The three ghouls gathered at the edge of the central space, alternating their movents. They were not ordinary undead creatures; although Shard could easily handle any one alone, the three together posed no small trouble.
"Thorns of the Moon."
He stabbed his longsword backward against the wall, and bright silver thorn bushes quickly sprouted from the ground, blocking the holes in the doors, windows, and walls. Subsequently, the yellow Moonlight Longsword vanished, and the silver Moonlight Greatsword was retrieved by Shard from the flas.
The crackling flas covered the sound of footsteps, and the sound of swinging the sword again could not be transmitted from this burning house. The three ghouls, temporarily unable to perform spatial movent, alternated in combat with Shard who continually engaged in spatial movent. When one was attacked, the other two would imdiately co to the rescue. The nurical advantage was offset by spatial movent, but the ghouls not only had similar behavior logic, Shard even discovered that they could share each other’s perspectives and even injuries.
Even so, confined by Shard’s "Spatial Stabilization Aura" in this environnt, the ghouls gradually fell into a disadvantage.
Suddenly, in another clash between claws and the great sword, the Moonlight Greatsword chopped off one hand of the ghoul, but the writhing flesh quickly started to regenerate. The three ghouls retreated once again into the fire, with one taking a deep breath and blowing forcefully, sending the raging fire rushing towards Shard.
As Shard sliced through the fire with his longsword, preparing for the final strike, the ghouls clasped their hands together. In an instant, the Four Elents suddenly expanded, and amidst the vibrations on the ground, the scene of the burning granary started to fade, replaced by the eerily familiar sight of the abandoned town on Green Lake Central Island.
[Maze Lock.]
"I knew these ghouls were unusual, but being able to use the Maze Lock, isn’t this too exaggerated."
Shard’s keen perception told him that all three ghouls were masters of this Maze Lock, clearly distinct individuals yet interconnected as if they were one, united in spellcasting. As the town materialized and mist rolled in, the ghouls also vanished into the fog.
The entire world was oppressing and weakening Shard, but the environnt of the Maze Lock was far better than the places in "Ti Expedition," making these weaknesses entirely negligible for Shard. He did not panic, observing the surroundings within the gradually forming town, and the effect of "Maze Lock: Green Lake Town" almost instantly manifested. High in the mist, under that piece of pallid sky, three gigantic shadows gradually approached Shard within the town.
Looking up, they were clearly three grotesque ghouls, transford into giants. Enlarged, the corpses’ details beca more distinct, those ugly faces and clouded eyes were terrifying like devilish creatures from stories that devour people.
The three giant ghouls from three directions bent down to look at Shard, extending their claws like humans mocking ants, reaching for Shard. In an instant, it seed as if space was locked, Shard maintaining mobility but bizarrely unable to move an inch.
The glowing key in his hand quickly transford into a long staff as Shard raised it to the sky, a massive rotating light wheel surged toward the six giant hands of the ghouls.
Due to Shard’s hasty spellcasting, the Maze Lock masters with six hands grasped the light wheel, tearing it into fragnts with tooth-aching sound. However, the ti gained was enough for Shard to muster his remaining spirit, both hands gripping the [Yggdrasil’s Staff] and striking the ground:
"Key of the Door!"
Crack~
Centered at the position struck by the long staff, dense cracks spread throughout the world. Accompanied by Shard’s twisting of the long staff like turning a key, the Maze Lock suddenly collapsed, returning him and the ghouls to the burning granary.
"Hmm? Using [Yggdrasil’s Staff] to deploy [Key of the Door] and forcibly break the Maze Lock, why is the consumption so low?"
He had originally planned to take out the pink small bottle for a sip.
[Isn’t it possible because the staff itself is the key?]
"She" made a very valid point, hence the staff, called "Angel-Level Relic" by Long-Haired Luvia, was discovered to have new traits.
