Capítulo 1671: Chapter 1670: Investigation on a Rainy Day

Although Shard was not clear about the local church’s actions, he rembered that he had other investigation progress:

“The investigation regarding the tomb robbers is basically finished. Specifically, among the tomb robbers who left the island, only two are still alive. One is an ordinary person, probably won’t live past the end of this month, and the other is a Circle Sorcerer. I only know their na so far, still investigating other details.”

The witch frowned slightly;

“The burial goods lost by Laster Edwards’ eldest daughter, who died prematurely, are still in their hands?”

“I asked, most of them have been sold. A small portion was sent back to the island to lift the curse and buried in the woods from the dock leading to Green Lake Town. Yes, stealing the goods cursed them, but I’m not clear on what the curse is.”

He detailed his whole process of searching for the tomb robbers. The witch listened intently, and when Shard finished, she regretfully said:

“Therefore, if I want revenge, I can’t find a target?”

“That guy who’s about to die, besides making him die two days early, indeed, there’s no other way to take revenge. But that Low Ring Sorcerer might still be alive. Curses that ordinary people can’t resist, Sorcerers can probably alleviate even if they can’t remove them.”

“Good, then leave this matter to you for the investigation. As for today, are you interested in accompanying

for a visit?”

The beautiful lady asked Shard.

“It’s raining outside, where are we going?”

“To deal with Rot-Eye Barry’s affair. Since he is a cultist, no matter what he’s doing locally, he can’t be left alone.”

The witch said, Shard felt the temperature on his chest weaken, indicating the spirit leading the body in front of him changed again. So, although the “injury” is recovering, the witch seems unable to maintain soul dominance:

“He has many local hideouts, though today, he’s been at the Ivy Club all day, eting Carsonrick rchants for business talks. We can take this opportunity to visit his lair, maybe make a surprising discovery. Had you not shown up today, I would have had my followers do it, but since you’re here, we’ll go together. I suppose you want to see with your own eyes what he’s really up to.”

Shard nodded. He had no objections to this arrangent, only worried about wasting the witch’s ti. But Miss gan Edwards was quite willing to take a walk with Shard:

“Anyway, there’s nothing much to do, and since you’ve helped

so much, I too…”

She didn’t continue, so Shard took his dice, stood up, and prepared to leave:

“What business are those Carsonrick rchants discussing with Rot-Eye Barry? Smuggling?”

gan gave a small smile:

“Yes, drug smuggling. Specifically, those Carsonrick rchants are brought in by Paradise Island Pharmaceuticals to trap him today. So, we have plenty of ti for the investigation. This is minor, being solvable by Paradise Island Pharmaceuticals ans it’s not really a problem.”

The inn attendant sheltered both under an umbrella and took them to the carriage waiting at the door. The carriage drove into the rain, which seed likely to last for a long ti.

The entire city beca soaked in this rain, the ancient streets, when wetted by rain, looked more like they were from ancient tis than ever before.

Speaking of which, Green Lake City’s scenery during rain is even better than its usual foggy appearance. If tourism were intentionally developed here with the selling point of an “Old Lakeside Town,” it could be quite appealing.

gan’s preliminary investigation identified five locations worth investigating today. It did not include the casino Shard had been to, but included other ventures of “Rot-Eye Barry” within the city.

In the carriage, gan handed the investigation files to Shard, who quickly glanced over them, astonished at how rich the subject was: “With fixed assets included, he has at least two hundred thousand pounds in savings, right? Isn’t Green Lake City quite poor?”

“Green Lake City being poor has no direct correlation with whether the gangs are poor.”

gan said, then reminded Shard to look at the few pages at the back:

“Our itinerary today is very tight and we may not finish all locations. There are three sites within Green Lake City, one site on the southern lakeshore in Mikaela Ironworks City, and one by the lake. I recomnd starting from within the city, then going to the City of Glass, and lastly to the lakeside. If ti runs short, we can choose one of the latter two. Once tonight’s investigation wraps up, we’ll directly handle that cultist.”

“Of course… casinos, brothels, illegal fighting, smuggling… If he weren’t a Sorcerer, unaffected by a Sorcerer’s thoughts, he might unify the whole underworld in the Green Lake region.”

Although Circle Sorcerers possess extraordinary powers, managing these illegal industries relies not just on strength.

“Or he might have long since been shot dead in an unknown alley.”

Amidst the sound of pouring rain, two people alighted near the intersection of Roget Street in the western part of Green Lake City, close to the Duin River. The carriage stopped by the side of the “Green Lake City Bank,” a regional bank, whose storefront appeared rather shabby but is actually the newest building on the street.

Roget Street is known for bulk commodity trading in this city. Its proximity to the river makes transportation convenient, therefore Rot-Eye Barry operates a warehouse there—one of the few genuine businesses he runs.

gan found this location suspicious because the cargo list of the warehouse, obtained through special channels, often included inexplicable items like “pig feed.” Furthermore, Barry seed particularly attentive to this warehouse, which didn’t make much money and rarely dealt with smuggled goods. So gan decided to focus her investigation here.

“No need to hurry out of the carriage. Although I brought you here, we don’t need to handle things ourselves.”

Spoke the lady with shoulder-length brown hair, looking at the man sitting across from her amidst the rain, lightly raising her eyebrows:

“Are you in need of money? You’ve been constantly paying attention to Barry’s earnings.”

“Need is hardly the word. My personal expenses are minimal, but my cat eats a lot. Also, most of my daily expenses… are paid for by the ladies.”

He sighed at this. He could afford small expenses like als and gas bills, but when it ca to clothing and various household items, Galina and Lecia always filled up No. 6, Saint Delan Square with supplies without his consent. He couldn’t even recall how many clothes he personally bought since coming to this world.

gan feigned indifference and asked:

“You seem to enjoy that—being popular and having soone willingly pay your bills.”

“Enjoy?”

Shard shook his head:

“Not at all. It makes

feel indebted to others. I prefer earning and spending my own money. Moreover, spending a woman’s money diminishes my self-esteem.”

He gazed at the rain outside the carriage window:

“I rember each kindness they’ve shown

and continuously feel that I owe them. Therefore, even when they impulsively ss up at tis, I find myself forgiving them…”

gan breathed a sigh of relief in her heart:

“If you have ti, maybe you can introduce

to your friends. I think they must also be quite interesting.”

She didn’t care about the ladies around Shard, evidently believing no one could compare to her.

“There will be a chance.”

If Miss Galina sets off this week, she will definitely reach Green Lake City by next week.

As they spoke, three madly running carriages hurriedly passed by their side in the rain. gan signaled Shard to remain silent, then instructed the driver to turn the carriage so they could see the entrance of the warehouse from the window.

The three rushing carriages stopped beside the warehouse, and five to six n dressed in black descended from each. Including the coachn, nearly twenty people charged into the warehouse.

The rain suppressed the sound of gunfire under the silencer, and did not allow the scent of blood to spread. From the small window of the carriage, they couldn’t clearly see what happened inside the warehouse, but Shard could imagine.

This was not the kind of investigation Shard envisioned. Surprised, he looked at gan, who explained:

“I don’t kill randomly. Rot-Eye Barry values this place highly; it’s manned by his closest aides, people whose deaths aren’t worth the expense of bullets. As for those rough black-clothed n, they aren’t mine. Barry, who moved from Coldwater Port to here over twenty years ago and seized so much turf in the local gangs, has plenty of enemies. All I needed to do was leak the information.”

The efficiency of the black-clothed n was swift. In less than ten minutes, they all erged and returned to their carriages, which then sped away again. The rain washed over the ground, leaving no traces behind.

But gan still didn’t let Shard get off the carriage. After a brief wait, another carriage stopped in front of the warehouse. The Witch’s followers, two Six-Ring won, went inside, and after they signaled, only then did Shard and gan’s carriage finally stop at the entrance of the warehouse in the rain. The Six-Ring won held umbrellas, waiting for the two in the carriage to alight.

“You see, we don’t need to personally handle everything. It’s enough to appear at the right ti.”

gan said.

Shard was the first to step off the carriage, but he only took the umbrella, not allowing others to hold it for him. Turning around, he saw the brown-haired lady watching him at the carriage door, so he extended his hand. Only then did gan reveal a satisfied expression, taking his hand as she got off. The girls nearby, however, displayed no emotion, clearly having been inford of certain matters beforehand.

Outside was a damp rainy day, and the sll of wet earth sufficed to mask the blood scent of three fallen people in the yard. But inside the warehouse building, the lack of ventilation made the blood sll in the humid and stuffy environnt completely uncovered.
