Chapter 1614: Chapter 1614: Intelligence from the Furen Brothers

Shard felt embarrassed to use public funds to order dishes like “pan-fried foie gras with premium black truffles,” but he didn’t show much restraint with ordinary dishes like Green Lake’s signature smoked at soup. The club’s service was excellent, and the food arrived quickly. anwhile, negotiation representatives from City Hall also arrived.

Among the first group through the door was the “Earl of Newcastle from Laketon,” and Shard morized his face along with the person he was conversing with. It was ten minutes later when the Furen Brothers, dressed formally and wearing monocles, entered.

Shard had already inford the waiter, so they were brought directly to Shard’s table. The brothers looked puzzled as they sat down and saw the dishes Shard ordered for them. They wanted to inquire about Shard’s identity, but Shard spoke again:

“Why haven’t I seen Earl Lewis? I wonder how his injuries are.”

“The shoulder wound is healing, but the injury below the waist unfortunately… Hold on, sir, who are you? Have we t before?”

Eric Furen, the brother wearing a monocle on his left eye, asked in surprise.

“We’ve t once. Don’t you rember? In Tobesk, on the roof of Queen Maria’s Opera House.”

The brothers both displayed expressions of shock mixed with panic as Shard, pressing his fork into a steak and cutting it with a knife, lowered his voice to reassure them.

“Don’t worry, I entered this club using the identity of an MI6 agent.”

The expression on the brothers’ faces beca increasingly indescribable.

“Don’t look at

like that. Whether it’s MI6 or Grey Glove, it’s challenging to constantly verify the identity of every secret agent. I’m just borrowing this identity to have them pay for my al. Since, after all, I’ve paid taxes within the Draleon territory.”

He spoke with such self-assurance that Mr. Eric Furen, the older brother, knew the high ring sorcerer before him had not co to chat idly:

“Sir, may I ask what business you have with us?”

“Yes, I rember when we t in Tobesk, you used a relic compass to locate the materials you were searching for.”

Shard placed the piece of beef in his mouth with a fork and then wiped his mouth with a napkin:

“I want to borrow your compass to find sothing.”

The brothers exchanged a glance, and the one with a monocle on his right eye, the older brother, asked:

“Sir, may I ask what you’re looking for? We’re not trying to pry into your privacy, but the Roder Card doesn’t find just anything.”

“I’m looking for descendants of the Edwards Family, forr lords of Green Lake Town.”

Shard said, glancing at the brothers who displayed various expressions:

“I don’t know their nas or identities, just that these people indeed exist. Are there limitations to using relics to find people?”

He queried, and Charles, the younger brother, shook his head:

“The compass can only find non-life forms, and requires knowing precise nas and appearances, with each use requiring a price. It can’t be used to find people.”

“Well, then forget it. What a pity.”

Shard said casually, with no hint of regret in his tone:

“Finding mbers of the Edwards Family isn’t a big deal for . I truly wish they’d co to

themselves.”

Saying this, he looked at the brothers again.

He couldn’t actively reveal he knew they were the Edwards, otherwise, having just disclosed this in Tobesk to Shard Hamilton, they might suspect sothing. But with Shard’s current inquiry, they’d only think that this man had found so clues, not easily suspecting the detective far off in Tobesk City.

The brothers had complex expressions and didn’t imdiately speak because the waiter had arrived with the serving cart. After the waiter left, Eric asked:

“Sir, what are you looking for them for? We have considerable connections in Velindale, perhaps we can help you find them.”

“I have a letter from before the fall of the Edwards Family, with a motif that intrigues . I think the Edwards descendants might know its aning.”

Shard raised an eyebrow, took out a notebook from his pocket, and drew a Sun, Moon, and Stars motif, pushing it to them:

“It’s this.”

The brothers pretended Shard hadn’t seen through them, and Shard pretended not to know they were aware he’d seen through them. Mr. Furen looked at the notebook, then shook their heads together:

“Sorry, we don’t recall this pattern, but it looks very similar to the back of a Roder Card.”

“Since you have connections in Velindale, help

check if there is any description about this in the Edwards relics.”

The two brothers understood:

“No problem, we’ll write to the servants to help you check this pattern. However, we don’t know any Edwards outside of the Edwards in Velindale… how should we contact you afterwards?”

“I’ll co find you, anyway you won’t be leaving the Green Lake Region anyti soon.”

Shard said:

“And I won’t let you help without reciprocating. If needed, I can assist you as well. By the way, do you plan to go to the island soon?”

“We did plan to, but there were so changes on the island the day before yesterday. The local church is searching the island, so we might have to wait a while.”

Eric said.

“Alright, also try not to easily expose your connections with the Edwards. This identity will beco quite sensitive in the near future.”

The two brothers nodded together:

“Our grandfather said similar words before he passed away, and very few around us know about our identity, plus none of them are in Green Lake.”

“That’s for the best. Speaking of which, your grandfather’s na is…”

“Edward Edwards.”

This is the second son’s na.

Shard nodded, then pointed to Earl of Newcastle over there in Laketon:

“What is this Earl doing in Green Lake? Did he speak at the eting this morning? Using this identity, I need to take back so information.”

“The Earl of Newcastle wants to promote peace, but his extre pacifism isn’t welcod in any dostic faction. I’ve heard he ca to Green Lake at the invitation of the Peace Church. His ambitions are grand, but they cannot be realized.”

Since it wasn’t very important information, Charles Follen directly told Shard, and Shard nodded and got up to leave:

“The Green Lake Region will beco quite chaotic soon, so be careful. Oh, I’ve already paid for the al, enjoy your lunch, gentlen, the fish soup here is quite good.”

With that, he walked towards the restaurant door, and the people engaged in low conversations in the restaurant didn’t pay much attention to him. Once it was confird that Shard had left, Charles, wearing a monocle on his left eye, softly asked his brother:

“He…”

Eric Forun touched his monocle:

“I don’t see any malice towards us, so don’t worry too much. But the gentleman is right; we do need to be a bit careful lately. Don’t overthink it, let’s eat. If grandfather’s words on his deathbed were true, our relatives might also start to appear one by one. This isn’t just our issue, it concerns the entire family.”

Leaving the club, Shard boarded a carriage heading south and left the city directly. Although the city’s carriages are reluctant to enter too remote villages, fortunately for the nobles of Green Lake City, there is a specially built road leading to the lakeside for vacationing and leisure purposes.

The carriage carrying Shard passed farrs with hoes, carts loaded with grain, soldiers patrolling with guns, and at the fork leading to the outpost barracks, it turned right. After passing through a grove of lilacs in bloom, it brought Shard to the lakeside.

Here lies the village nad “Puhov Village” along the lakeside. With the arrival of spring and the thaw of the lake, the village, an important dock on Green Lake, bustled with activity. To serve the passing rchants, travelers, and soldiers stationed at the lakeside, the village also features taverns, inns, and blacksmith shops. If you’re looking for other goods, try your luck with the traveling rchants.

“In the Green Lake Region, there are more backpack-carrying, carriage-driving traveling rchants than elsewhere. The countryside is vast, with many permanent residents, not to ntion the ease of crossing the border. In springti, watching these traveling rchants slowly make their way along flowery country roads is one of my fondest childhood mories in the countryside.”

This was the explanation the forty-sothing coachman gave to Shard on the way.

Puhov Village was even livelier than Shard expected. Despite its ordinary village size and the muddy ground, the air was filled with the sll of chicken droppings and the briny scent of lake water. The mingling of rchants, travelers, soldiers, and villagers gave it a vibrant feel, more so than Crossroad Village, where Shard drank with Captain Lades.

Shad thought that if it weren’t for the underdeveloped economy of Green Lake City, this village’s location could easily allow it to be developed into a small town.

The purpose of Shard’s trip here was to explore the lake and catch so fish while also checking if the church’s island-searching team had any findings. After getting off the carriage, he entered the village. The villagers weren’t curious about Shard’s unfamiliar face; instead, eager children pointed out the direction of the village tavern to him.

However, Shard did not go to the tavern.

As he observed this backward village, he walked through it towards the docks. At the convergence of the village’s small roads stood a bulletin board. But instead of quests for adventurers to eliminate monsters, find missing goats, or help gather herbal dicine, it listed information on incoming ships and notices for renting carriages and boats.
