Chapter 1454: Chapter 1454: Broken Heart

"Soone asked

to delay you here, so you don’t leave too early. So, you’d better chat with

a bit more."

Osenfort said, and Shard suddenly realized:

"Now I understand, but what’s that got to do with ? Do you have more to say? Forget it, whatever you want to say, I don’t want to hear. Are you ready to start fighting? Or would you prefer to go outside first?"

"You really are impulsive."

Osenfort said, but Shard couldn’t care less:

"You don’t really think that the two lower demons behind you can stop , do you?"

"We’ve traded so many tis, why not trade once more?"

Ston Osenfort said, glancing at his pocket watch:

"It’s nine o’clock in the evening now, stay here and talk with

for another half hour."

"Although it’s not very long, what if I say no?"

Shard shook his head.

"There are many things you don’t know. Don’t you want to continue hearing the story? Aren’t you curious why I beca a Circle Sorcerer? It has to do with the three items I had you find. If you kill

now, those secrets might be buried forever."

"Sorry, it’s all not important to . Ti is what matters most..."

But after saying this, seeing Osenfort’s butler and maid behind him and thinking about the promised further information on demons, Shard hesitated and changed his mind:

"However, I do have so demands. Tell

how you summon demons, where Captain Woody’s demon information is stored, and I want you to free those two lower demons."

This is actually two conditions, but putting them together isn’t abrupt at all, so Shard wasn’t afraid of revealing his true purpose.

"If that’s the case, no problem."

Indeed, the man at the doorway said:

"The demon summoning information is in my stone sculpture studio, in the safe behind the right cabinet. You can find it once you open it. As for them..."

He turned to look at his silent butler and maid:

"This is also part of my story. After summoning that stone mirror, I regretted signing a contract with a demon so easily. Humans always have their own ideas, so I had a bolder idea."

"To resist your own demon, you wanted to summon another demon?"

Shard said with a sarcastic tone, pulling a chair in the newlywed bedroom and sitting down:

"I find it hard to understand your thinking."

"People always say that their peers are their biggest enemies. As a pirate, I agree with this, so I thought to use demons against demons."

Osenfort said, turning his gaze back to Shard:

"Interestingly, by following the contents of that parchnt, I intended to summon the nesis of that mirror, but instead, summoned them. They... to be honest, aren’t very strong, but as a butler and maid, they’re quite good. When I’m not ho, they manage this estate, take care of Haila, and deal with so troublemakers by burying them in the backyard. But now..."

He shook his head:

"After tonight, my life will inevitably undergo significant changes. So, although I don’t often apologize, I still want to say thank you. I haven’t paid you over the years, but you know where my wealth is, take it as you wish—you’re free now."

The old butler and maid simultaneously nodded to Shard, then both turned into two streams of black smoke, flew over Osenfort’s shoulder into the room, crashed open the door to the small terrace, and flew into the snowflake-strewn night sky.

"Are you relieved now? Your opponent is just

now."

The owner of the estate opened his arms, entering his newlywed bedroom. Shard knew ti was pressing, but so things really needed clarification. The matter with Osenfort and the demons was complicated, and a single battle wouldn’t resolve it:

"I’ll give you only half an hour. After that, I won’t listen to a single word you say."

"No problem, my friend, it’s all up to you."

He stood with arms akimbo, looking at the room’s surroundings:

"It’s really nostalgic. I was so young back then, and I’ll never forget that winter night of my wedding."

"When did Haila Osenfort die?"

Shard asked.

The expression on the estate owner’s face turned sowhat sad, but just for an instant:

"The night represented by this illusion."

"The night you were married, two years ago?"

Shard raised an eyebrow:

"You killed your wife?"

"Don’t be absurd, you know my story well. Do you think I’m capable of such a thing? I’d rather kill myself than harm her. For her, I’d sacrifice anything, including my life. I love her, I’ve always loved her."

Osenfort looked towards the phantom and corpse on the bed, his voice slightly deeper:

"Haila died before dawn on our wedding night. We stayed in this position all night: I standing by the window looking out, she lying on the bed, crying because of the news brought by that harlot at the wedding. Then, before the first morning light touched my face, she stopped breathing."

Both Shard and Osenfort were silent for a full half-minute before Shard spoke:

"There’s no wound on her body, no signs of self-harm. So, to put it in a delicate way, she died of..."

"A broken heart. And my heart also died at that mont."

"Since Mrs. Haila passed away two years ago, then who did I et in 1854? Did you resurrect her?"

"I don’t have the ability, but it does. Coincidentally, it wanted to add sothing to our contract, thus the contract beca its full version now."

"Resurrection clearly cos at a price."

Shard said softly, and Osenfort shook his head, unwilling to discuss the contract details with Shard even now:

"I know you dislike , sotis I dislike myself too, but there’s no choice, that’s life. My life changed the day I t Haila; that day perhaps the gods’ gaze focused on . I found a way to leave the fleet, redeed the family estate, and beca a great rchant. But all this is false."

He grasped the air with his hand:

"You’re curious why this place beca decrepit overnight, aren’t you? Actually, this is the true appearance of the estate. It’s too old, too worn, it shouldn’t exist anymore. And I, keeping up appearances here with power, now it sensed my rebellious thoughts, the power gradually stripped away and restored its original state."

"You shouldn’t keep what needs to go."

Shard looked at the woman on the bed.

"You don’t need to imply with words, I know what I want to do."

Osenfort laughed, arms crossed over his chest, leaning against the wall by the door, while Shard remained seated sideways in the open chair before the table.

"I know what the demon truly wants, so when I signed that contract, I took great care to avoid being ’collected’ by the demon. It wasn’t easy, but thanks to you."

His hand moved in the air, the glimr dancing along. This was Basic Sorcery, the "Light Spell
