"I’m curious, wasn’t he assassinated while he was in New Hangzhou?" Malin asked.
"He was attacked but didn’t die. The assailant wasn’t caught either. Later, the Union police found out that guy nad Karn had issues. Apparently, he’s a mber of so secret society. But since there’s no evidence, he was transferred here." Peru answered.
"What about you? I rember you were staying in an apartnt in New Carterburg. How did you end up here?" Malin crossed his legs, thinking this was a question worth digging into.
"My direct superior was transferred here to investigate Karn’s case, and I was personally requested to co along. He said sothing about ’Miss Peru Haus Hagelberry is skillful in tactics, proficient in work, and my best assistant.’ Does he have any idea how much I detest the climate in South Asia? Damn Mumbai, it’s unbearably hot." The young princess of the Hagelberry family openly expressed her disdain for sumr.
"Karn Wood Spencer—does he really only have this one case?" Malin looked at the young lady.
"He has plenty of issues. The most serious case involves the death of a high-ranking undercover agent nearly ten years ago, and he might be related. But we have no evidence."
"Marlay." Malin said.
Peru glanced around, ensuring her teammates were on guard and no one overheard, then nodded: "Yes, Marlay—or more precisely, Hill Gaiate...my cousin."
"He has a child. You should know about his existence, but if you don’t, it’s better not to." Malin finished speaking and looked at the young woman. She froze for a mont, then nodded sowhat reluctantly: "I understand. Thank you for the warning."
"Don’t ntion it, kid. Your safety and happiness are all I wish to see." Malin said this as he glanced at the little alley’s entrance. A new anti-terror strike vehicle was lowering its ramp: "Your colleagues?"
"You could say that." The young woman’s face showed so hesitation as she looked at the dashing young man stepping off the vehicle. For the first ti, a blush appeared on her face.
Malin smiled. He stood up and turned to leave.
Behind him, Peru murmured lightly: "Those are my colleagues, ancestor. If there’s nothing else, you could...where are you headed?"
The murmur turned into a question, but Malin didn’t respond—not until he heard the enthusiastic call of the young man toward Peru.
"Peru, I knew you’d be here. Next ti, don’t use private punishnts on them. This isn’t Carterburg; the Judges have a hard ti doing their job here."
"I know, so what brings you over?"
"We..."
The voice from behind gradually beca inaudible. Malin stood at the alley’s end, facing a new street, new pedestrians. Only the familiar Thanan-language billboards and food cart vendors brought him a sense of familiarity.
Sitting on a chair by a food cart, Malin nodded at the Thanan vendor in front of him: "Give a bowl of fried noodles."
"No problem, but...is it a holiday today?" The young noodle vendor asked, a bit doubtful, as he started preparing the noodles.
Malin fell silent for a mont, then pulled out his Adventurer ID.
"Ah, so you’re an Adventurer—a Half-blood with Dostic Fairy lineage? I don’t know much about Westland bloodlines, sorry." The young noodle vendor laughed nervously, seemingly mistaking Malin for a mber of the Western Human World.
Let him think whatever he wants.
Malin sighed as he picked up a newspaper near the cart, likely ant to keep custors occupied.
Written in Thanan, the paper’s front page featured a picture of a young Leopard Girl, leaving Malin sowhat dazed—Nir Rasmus, the little princess of the Rasmus family, was confird this week as the first individual in seven centuries to ascend to the Ninth Ring as a Mage.
The subtitle read—"In this world, could we truly witness the ergence of a Legendary Mage once more after the end of the Spiritual Energy Tide?"
For so reason, Malin suddenly thought that this child had a striking resemblance to Mars... They’d make quite the couple.
