"Young Su, I have sothing to tell you."
The drinking at the restaurant had already reached a fever pitch. Geng Feipeng had two empty bottles next to him, having hit his limit of two jin of white liquor. He was slurring his words and had even started calling Su Xuan "Young Su."
"Stop talking," Long Xiwen said, her brow deeply furrowed as she urged him, "Just call your friends and family to co pick you up!"
Long Xiwen had once again witnessed another of Su Xuan’s impressive skills: his capacity for alcohol. By now, Su Xuan had also downed two bottles of white liquor, yet he seed completely unaffected, as if nothing had happened.
"I’m not drunk! I don’t need anyone to pick up!" Geng Feipeng waved his hand, looking at Su Xuan with bleary eyes as he continued his previous topic. "Let tell you, I also know soone nad Su. This afternoon, I went to Tianchou Film Industry and introduced two models from my company for their new blockbuster, a one-billion-yuan production. Their boss is surnad Su, and his na is Su Xuan. Boss Su and I hit it off right away; we had a delightful conversation!"
"Oh?" Su Xuan said, his mouth slightly agape. "Is that so?"
He, the boss in question, was sitting right there. He certainly hadn’t hit it off or had a delightful conversation with Geng Feipeng that afternoon.
Long Xiwen couldn’t help but press a hand to her forehead again, feeling secondhand embarrassnt for Geng Feipeng and regretting not telling him Su Xuan’s full na.
"You don’t believe ?" Geng Feipeng took out his phone, pretending to dial a number. "If you don’t believe , I’ll call Boss Su right in front of you!"
"Don’t bother!" Long Xiwen quickly tried to stop him. "We’re not interested in your business."
"But it’s a huge production!" Geng Feipeng dialed the number anyway. While waiting for it to connect, he said, "When it’s released, you have to go see it. My models landed the roles of the female lead and the second female lead. They..."
Geng Feipeng abruptly stopped talking.
Because Su Xuan’s phone had suddenly started ringing.
Geng Feipeng imdiately hung up.
Su Xuan’s phone went silent.
Geng Feipeng dialed again.
Su Xuan’s phone rang once more.
"You..." Geng Feipeng’s jaw dropped in shock. "How do you have Boss Su’s phone? Did you find it?"
Su Xuan shrugged. "I am the Su Xuan you’re talking about."
Geng Feipeng’s hand trembled, and his phone clattered to the floor. The shock sobered him up instantly, and his face filled with utter disbelief.
Looking at Geng Feipeng, Su Xuan said coolly, "Let ask you sothing. How did you get my phone number?"
Although he hadn’t issued an explicit order, the people at Tianchou Film Industry shouldn’t be casually handing out his number.
"I... I..." Geng Feipeng gasped, his lips trembling. "First, tell , are you really the boss of Tianchou Film Industry?"
"Geng Feipeng, Su Xuan is the one and only, genuine boss of Tianchou Film Industry," Long Xiwen said with a sigh of resignation.
"Boss Su! It’s an honor to et you!" Geng Feipeng suddenly leaned on the table and stood up, extending a hand toward Su Xuan. "Can we reintroduce ourselves? My na is Geng Feipeng, but you can call Little Geng," he whimpered. When he shook Su Xuan’s hand again, his grip was firm but asured, a picture of utmost respect. His mouth twitched uncontrollably, and cold sweat beaded on his forehead.
I thought I was dealing with a nobody, but he’s a big shot!
SLAP!
Geng Feipeng suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face. He then shot a resentful glare at Long Xiwen. Why didn’t you tell earlier? I ended up trying to show off to the wrong person. This is so embarrassing, I just want to die...
"Boss Su, everything I just said was complete nonsense, please don’t take it to heart!
"I really did want to send models to Tianchou, but they didn’t want any. Your President Shan said you’d already given orders to only hire professional actors, and my models can’t act!
"I begged and pleaded, and President Shan could only give two spots for extras!
"Please don’t take away those two spots because of my foolishness! They really want to act; it’s their dream!
"As for your phone number, I secretly saw it on President Shan’s desk. There was a box of business cards printed for you. They probably just hadn’t had a chance to give them to you yet...
"I... I’ll punish myself with three drinks!"
Geng Feipeng quickly filled his glass and gulped it down. He poured another and was about to toss it back when Su Xuan stopped him.
"Let’s call it a night," Su Xuan said, checking the ti. "Everyone should head ho and get so rest."
"Right, right, I’ll go pay the bill!" Geng Feipeng hastily stumbled toward the counter to settle the bill himself. After paying, he clutched his mouth and ran to the restroom. The combination of shock and fear had likely made it impossible to keep the alcohol down.
"I’ll go check on him," Su Xuan said to Long Xiwen before heading toward the restroom. In today’s society, if soone you were drinking with had a problem, you could be held responsible.
"Su Xuan..." Long Xiwen quickly grabbed his hand, her voice apologetic. "I wanted to treat you to a nice al, but Geng Feipeng ruined it. This ti doesn’t count. I’ll treat you again next ti."
"It’s fine. That kid’s pretty amusing, actually. He’s good for a laugh." Su Xuan smiled and went into the restroom.
Long Xiwen breathed a sigh of relief, glad that Su Xuan truly didn’t mind Geng Feipeng’s antics.
Looking at Su Xuan’s departing back, she murmured in a voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz, "Su Xuan, I have nothing to do with him... I’ve never dated anyone..."
Even though only she could hear herself, Long Xiwen’s face instantly turned crimson, as if her words carried a deeper aning.
She stepped out of the restaurant and stood by the entrance, taking a deep breath of the cool night air. She couldn’t rember when it had started, but whenever she saw Su Xuan, her heartbeat would quicken for no reason, just like the fluttering of a startled deer so often described in novels...
"Long Xiwen!"
Suddenly, a grim, coarse voice echoed from the darkness nearby.
Long Xiwen squinted, trying to see. Shrouded by the night, she could vaguely make out two figures standing there. The two figures—a man and a woman, both strangers—began to walk slowly toward her.
"Are you calling ?" Long Xiwen asked.
"Yes," the man, who was as tall as an iron tower, replied. "We’re calling you."
"Is sothing wrong?" she asked, puzzled.
"Yes, there is," the man said, then strangely recited a list of nas. "Lin Jian, Hao Feiyue, Li Xiangwen, Zhao Liangping, Lu Zhengwei, Long Xiwen!"
Long Xiwen’s brow furrowed tightly. Those people, including her, belonged to the sa operations team.
After finishing the list, the man stated flatly, "We’ve co to get justice for Qi Xuan!"
The color instantly drained from Long Xiwen’s face. Three months ago, their team had been apprehending a suspect wanted for assaulting a minor. The suspect, whose na was Qi Xuan, had not only resisted arrest but had also attacked them with a knife. He was shot and killed on the spot.
The woman suddenly spoke up. "You can go down and keep my brother company. The others will all be dead soon enough!"
The iron tower of a man began to accelerate, charging toward Long Xiwen. His footsteps were as heavy as hamrs striking the ground, each one a chilling blow to the heart.
