57: Chapter 57 Lan Li 5_1 57: Chapter 57 Lan Li 5_1 He Zhilan didn’t quite understand why He Teng’s comrade would suddenly seek her out and bring her to such a place.

What was his purpose?

While He Zhilan was feeling confused, Lan Li was secretly observing her.

From the mont she got out of the car to the mont she sat down, he never took his eyes away from her expressions.

Lan Li knew he was being nosy.

However, when he saw He Teng’s newlywed wife walking so intimately with another man, chatting and laughing, he couldn’t help but feel angry on behalf of He Teng.

Lan Li watched as the woman he didn’t know the na of, who he temporarily called Xiaohe, looked through the nu.

As the waitress asked for their order, he ordered his usual coffee and then waited for her to answer.

Lan Li wasn’t sure if a high school graduate would understand the words on the nu that weren’t taught in high school textbooks.

Lan Li didn’t deny that he was waiting for her to make a fool of herself.

He was showing her that there were many worlds on one planet, and the one she coveted was out of her reach.

He was showing her just how far she was from the world she aspired to.

But when she ordered the Blue Mountain Coffee in perfect English, Lan Li was slightly taken aback.

He had underestimated her.

She was indeed a high achiever.

However, Lan Li wasn’t in a hurry.

To simply be able to read the nu and order coffee was one thing, but that didn’t an one knew how to drink it.

Lan Li was familiar with the He family’s background.

He also knew that He Teng’s adopted daughter-in-law had always lived in a small mountain village.

Therefore, he was certain that she would not have had the opportunity to drink coffee, let alone know how to drink it.

During the coffee break, neither of them spoke.

Lan Li showed contempt, whereas He Zhilan was still in the dark about what He Teng’s comrade intended to do.

That was until the coffee arrived and she noticed Lan Li staring at her, his eyes filled with a mixture of mockery and contempt.

It was then that He Zhilan finally realised why He Teng’s comrade had suddenly taken her out of school and brought her to such an upscale restaurant.

He Zhilan had lived in a small mountain village for twelve years, yet she had spent the first six years of her life as a pampered girl.

While she didn’t like coffee, that didn’t an she hadn’t ever encountered it.

The idea that she might make a fool of herself by not knowing how to drink coffee felt ludicrous.

He Zhilan could perfectly mimic the graceful deanor of a well-bred lady, lifting her coffee with her little finger elegantly as she tasted it in front of him.

But she didn’t.

She was angry.

Hence, she rely stared at the steam from the coffee, her voice firm, “If you took out of school just to ridicule , isn’t that rather pathetic?”

He Zhilan even suspected that He Teng might have provoked this man during his ti in the military.

Was that why, unable to exact revenge on He Teng, he chose instead to toy with her?

“Perhaps it is a little boring.

However, if it helps you to see your true place, it’s worth it.

I simply wanted to make you understand that you’re not holding onto what’s rightfully yours, while foolishly longing for what you’ll never have.

This could be even more embarrassing than sitting in a fancy restaurant, not knowing how to drink coffee.”

“What do you an?” He Zhilan no longer pretended to be friends.

A cold laugh appeared on her face, “Let guess, you couldn’t beat He Teng in the military, so you decided to target his wife in private.

So, it seems the military is churning out an and petty individuals like yourself?”
