"Do you think I don’t know my own daughter is a bit clumsy?" Ding’s father wasn’t a fool, easily fooled by one sentence from his daughter. "You, oh you, just look at how lazy you’ve beco lately! Luckily, you ended up with Ding Long who doesn’t mind. Otherwise, even if I gave you a mountain of gold and silver as a dowry, I’d worry you’d never get married."

Ding Long’s care for Ding Jinshi was sothing Ding’s father could easily see. For over half a year, two or three tis a month, Ding Long would bring Ding Jinshi back to the compound to have als together. At first, perhaps Ding’s father couldn’t tell how attentive Ding Long was to Ding Jinshi, but over ti, in the finer details of life, Ding Long’s care for Ding Jinshi was almost like watching over a little daughter, sothing that Ding’s father couldn’t overlook.

As the weather turned cold, Ding Jinshi’s gloves and scarf were things Ding Long always made sure she wore. Even at ho, if Ding Jinshi was thirsty and needed a glass of water, Ding Long acted quicker than the housemaid.

The dumplings for lunch ended up being sothing of a disaster thanks to Ding Jinshi’s handiwork. The ones Ding Long made were plump and appetizing, but the ones Ding Jinshi made all fell apart in the pot, and completely ruined the pot of good dumplings. This made Ding’s father feel deeply pained; how did he end up with such a daughter?

At the dining table, Ding’s father suddenly brought up the matter of Ding Jinshi and Ding Long. "You’ve been engaged for over half a year now. You seem to be getting along well without any major conflicts. Have you two talked about when to get married? Ding Long, you’re not young anymore, and Ding Jinshi is at the right age too. Marrying sooner would give you a legitimate reason to have a child. I’m just looking forward to having a grandson."

They weren’t the only ones to bring up the marriage topic; Ding Long’s parents had started ntioning it repeatedly just three months into their engagent. However, each ti, Ding Jinshi would deflect the question to Ding Long. This ti was no exception. She said directly, "Dad, for the marriage stuff, ask Ding Long. His company is quite busy lately, so I’m sure he can’t spare the ti, right, Ding Long? So, we’re not in a rush."

Anyway, Ding Jinshi was used to saying this, having said it like a catchphrase several tis even in front of Ding Long’s parents. Every ti, Ding Long would shoulder the issue himself, ensuring no one would criticize Ding Jinshi.

"When is a big company like that ever not busy? The company has been around for so many years; surely it can do without its boss for a few days? Being busy with work is no excuse not to get married!" Ding’s father, with sharp insight, imdiately saw through what was on his daughter’s mind. Thus, he didn’t bother pressing Ding Jinshi and instead asked Ding Long, "Don’t tell you’re waiting for a lull in work to get married, because I won’t believe that. You’d better give a clear answer."

"Uncle, I heard picking a wedding date is important. Since you’re the elder, why don’t you help us decide the date?" Ding Long’s smile was as warm as the spring breeze, but to Ding Jinshi, it felt like a chilling wind.

This wasn’t right, was it? The situation wasn’t unfolding as expected!

Ding Jinshi looked at Ding Long; this wasn’t how he used to respond when she said that!

"Alright then! I’ll arrange with your parents this afternoon to discuss and pick a date!" Ding’s father finally smiled with satisfaction. "There should be a lot of good dates in the latter half of the year. Our family doesn’t really hold much to such customs, but your family seems to, so we should invite your parents too. It’s dull here, and you young folks won’t want to stay. After you finish your al, take Jinshi back, and leave the date picking to us adults. Once we’ve settled on a date, I’ll let you know, and we can arrange the wedding details together."
