Watching the calendar pages on the desk flip by, Ding Long counted how long it had been since Ding Jinshi showed him so care. On New Year’s Eve, Ding Long finally couldn’t help but give Ding Jinshi a call.

He knew Ding Jinshi had been really busy lately, using work to fill all her ti. Though he was concerned, he understood that such a form of escape was slightly better than smoking and drinking.

Here, it’s past seven in the evening on New Year’s Eve, which ans it’s a little past seven in the morning in M Country. The phone rang for a while before it was answered. The voice on the other end said hello, sounding sowhat unfamiliar. Ding Long hesitated for a mont and said, "I’m looking for Ding Jinshi."

"Ding Long~ it’s !" Speaking, Ding Jinshi sniffled and said, "I have a cold, so my voice is hoarse. You couldn’t recognize ? You really are my good friend."

"Yeah, you really are my good friend. You promised to call every two days, but you haven’t called since. Do you know what day today is?" After saying this, Ding Long quickly asked, "Your voice sounds like your cold is quite severe. How many days has it been? Have you seen a doctor?"

"Two or three days, it’s so cold outside, I couldn’t be bothered to go out." Using her hoarse voice, Ding Jinshi laughed twice into the phone, "I’ve been too busy lately. Every ti I finish work, it’s midnight, and then I’m so tired I just sleep. When I have so free ti, it’s the middle of the night back ho, and I don’t want to disturb your sleep, so I haven’t called you."

"Whenever you have ti, call , don’t care what ti it is." Ding Long advised, "Having a hoarse voice for two or three days without seeing a doctor won’t do any good."

"I’ve been drinking more hot water." Ding Jinshi muttered.

"Is hot water a cure-all? If drinking more hot water worked, what would we need doctors for?" Ding Long scoffed, feeling anxious yet helpless.

Ding Jinshi chuckled twice, tactfully steering the conversation away from her illness. If it weren’t for her voice giving away her cold, she wouldn’t have ntioned her sickness to Ding Long. "By the way, what day did you say it was today? Is it your birthday? But, I rember your birthday is in May!"

"New Year’s Eve! You, after being away for two years, have even forgotten the New Year." Ding Long sighed.

"What good does rembering do? There’s no one here to celebrate with . Rembering makes it worse than forgetting, at least this way I can pass the holiday with peace of mind." Ding Jinshi said, "Are you calling to wish a Happy New Year? Well, even if I can’t celebrate, I should wish you a Happy New Year. You’re back ho, you’ll surely celebrate with family and many friends, right? You’ll likely, as in past years, use the holiday to gather with old friends, right? Lin Deng is on vacation, Chenyue is on vacation too, you’ll gather at a ti convenient for everyone just like in past years, won’t you?"

Ding Long knew that with all she was saying, Ding Jinshi was simply trying to ask about Lan Li, but since she didn’t say it outright, he pretended not to know.

"I’m not planning on going this year." Ding Long responded, steering away from the topic, and began advising Ding Jinshi, "You need to see a doctor for that cold to get better quickly. Your body belongs to you, if you don’t take care of yourself, no one else can. No matter how busy you are with studies and work, don’t stay up late. It’s bad for your health and your eyes. I don’t want to hear one day that the school called to say Ding Jinshi died from exhaustion in the dormitory or laboratory!"
