Ding Long suddenly ca to M Country, and for Ding Jinshi, who hadn’t returned ho to see family and friends for over a year, it was truly a joy to have a friend from afar. It seed as if all her unhappiness lted away the mont she saw Ding Long.
She skipped class and acted as a guide, taking Ding Long for a stroll around the school’s vicinity.
Having been here for more than a year, although Ding Jinshi couldn’t claim a deep familiarity with every blade of grass and tree, she was at least well-acquainted with this street. Previously, she never found the place particularly enjoyable, but with Ding Long around, the street seed more pleasing to the eye. There were many historical buildings along the street and she enthusiastically explained them to Ding Long as they walked. Before they knew it, the day had slipped away.
"What ti is your flight tomorrow?" Ding Jinshi arranged for Ding Long to stay near her school for a night. Knowing Ding Long could only stay for two days, Ding Jinshi’s brows furrowed, "You military folk have it tough, bound by constraints in the army, and even after retirent, you still face restrictions. A trip abroad, hampered by ti limits. If only you could stay a few days longer, I’d take you to see the lake in the town fifty kiloters away. It’s beautiful!"
"I’m content to have these two days," Ding Long smiled. Generally, people can’t travel abroad within two years of retiring, but he had pulled many strings and secured much docuntation to earn these two days. Seeing Ding Jinshi’s reluctance to part, a sweet yet unexplainable feeling settled in his heart.
"Don’t worry, I’ll co to see you when I get the chance," Ding Long reassured her, patting her shoulder. "I’ll head to the airport early tomorrow. You should go to class; no need to skip just to see off."
As the day grew late, Ding Long escorted Ding Jinshi back to school. He didn’t turn away until he watched her wave goodbye from her dorm window.
This entire day belonged exclusively to them—he and Ding Jinshi. With her spirited and lively personality, she’d link arms with him, patiently narrating many historical stories about the small city. In monts of excitent, she’d gesture animatedly, occasionally hopping around in front of him.
Every second of this ti, Ding Long carefully cherished.
The next morning, Ding Jinshi skipped her class again to et Ding Long and accompanied him by taking multiple buses to the airport. At the airport, she clung to him, crying uncontrollably like a child being abandoned.
"Ding Long, I’m grateful that you’re the most thoughtful of my good friends, coming all this way just to see . Once you leave, who knows when you’ll return? I’m busy with studies here, striving to go ho sooner, so I’m constantly buried in books with no ti to return ho. I reckon it’ll be another two years before we see each other again." She sighed, "Why was I so foolish to study abroad? It sounded glamorous, but being thousands of miles away in a foreign country with no family or friends... I should have just attended a good university back ho."
Such complaints, Ding Jinshi only voiced to Ding Long—not to her family, who wouldn’t understand, nor Lan Li, who didn’t have the ti to listen. Thus, Ding Long beca her sole confidant.
