Capítulo 1371: Chapter 1371: Apex of Despair 20

Lan Li looked at the Nunnery situated halfway up the mountain and climbed the steps one by one. On both sides of the mountain path, lush towering trees blocked out the sunlight on this small road. Occasionally, a nearby mountain dweller carrying firewood descended the mountain and couldn’t help but glance twice at the man in military uniform.

From the foot of the mountain, the Nunnery looked quite close, but in reality, even with Lan Li’s pace, it took more than forty minutes to reach it.

The door of the Nunnery, even during the day, was closed, but standing outside, one could faintly see the smoke curling upwards from inside.

Lan Li stepped forward and knocked on the door. A young girl ca to open it. Lan Li had heard earlier that the Nunnery took in many abandoned baby girls. He smiled at the little girl and said, “I’m looking for Ding Jinshi.”

“We don’t have anyone by that na here,” the little girl tilted her head, thought for a mont, and then replied.

Lan Li was taken aback, “She only ca up the mountain a few days ago.”

“Uncle, are you looking for Aunt Unmindful? Uncles aren’t allowed into the nunnery, please wait at the door, I’ll go ask her.” With that said, the little girl closed the door and ran inside. Eventually, she found the person in the side room of the nunnery, “Aunt Unmindful, there’s a soldier uncle at the door looking for you, do you want to see him?”

The hand copying scriptures inside the room paused slightly, a black line of ink streaking the white rice paper. She raised her head to look in the direction of the girl at the door, but her gaze seed to pass through the girl, as if she was seeing sothing else.

“Aunt Unmindful?” The girl walked in and asked again, “Do you want to see him? If not, I’ll go tell him.”

The woman in the plain gray robe showed a slight change in her expression, ca back to her senses, shook her head resolutely, and said, “No, if anyone cos looking for in the future, you tell them that I won’t see anyone.”

The little girl nodded, replied with an “oh” and ran back out. Before she had even clearly seen if the person was still at the entrance, she said directly, “Aunt Unmindful said she won’t see you, she said she won’t see anyone at all, please go back, Uncle.”

“Please tell her that I will wait at the door until she cos out to see .” Lan Li called out repeatedly just before the girl closed the door, “I will wait until she cos out.”

The little girl had a perplexed look, as if finding adults strange, but still acknowledged, closed the door, and went back inside.

When she left, the person inside the room was copying scriptures. When she returned, the person was already standing by the window, lost in thought, looking at sothing. “Aunt Unmindful, the uncle said he would wait at the door until you go out to see him.”

After delivering the ssage, the little girl hopped away. Her personality was not affected by growing up in such an environnt. Although the Nunnery raised the girls, they did not teach them as nuns, but raised them as ordinary girls. Once grown, if the girls wanted to leave and experience the outside world, the nunnery wouldn’t stop them. Many girls who grew up in the Nunnery now lived happily with their husbands and children.

Watching the girl’s high ponytail, she couldn’t help but think of her own daughter who had died tragically. Although she had changed her na to Unmindful, how could she truly be without any thoughts?
