Not long after Xing Ye and the others left, soone from the troops ca looking for He Teng. He Teng spoke with the person from the troops for over half an hour outside the ward, and when he returned, his expression appeared a bit different.
Ever since He Zhilan found out that her father and second brother were okay, and the baby was alright, she felt much more relaxed. So, even though she was lying in bed recuperating, she still remained her chatty self as before.
He Teng sat at the bedside peeling fruit for her, but his mind seed elsewhere, so much so that even when she waved her fingers in front of him to make faces, he gave no reaction.
"Brother, snap out of it~" He Zhilan finally raised her hand to pat He Teng, asking, "Did your comrades talk about sothing important when they ca to see you? You look like you have sothing on your mind since you ca back."
He Teng handed the peeled apple to He Zhilan, got up to wash the fruit knife, and when he saw her still staring at him, he grunted, nodding his head.
"What’s the matter? Can I know?" He Zhilan asked softly. Then she glanced at the person in the bed next to her and lowered her voice again, "If it’s sothing you can’t talk about, then don’t. But if you have things to attend to and you’re worried because I’m hospitalized, you should go on and take care of them. I’m a grown-up, and there are nurses and caregivers in the hospital, I don’t need you here twenty-four-seven. Look at won in the maternity ward, which of their husbands stayed several days straight like you?"
He Zhilan winked at He Teng, smiling, "You haven’t gone back to the troops for several days; if you don’t go back soon, they’ll think you’re the one who had the baby, not !"
He Teng couldn’t help but laugh, his lips curving into a smile, "I have a mission to go to the capital, and it might be for quite a long ti. Dongxue has returned to her hotown, and you don’t know anyone in the hospital, so I’m worried you’ll be bored alone. I’m considering whether to transfer you and the baby to the General Military Hospital in the capital, where you know everyone. Bian Muhe is also there, so with you and the baby there, I would feel more at ease."
"The baby is still so small, isn’t it inconvenient to travel by train to the capital?" He Zhilan called He Teng by his full na and said, "He Teng, you’re becoming more and more fussy. Are you planning to take the baby and wherever you get deployed, even to A Province? Or H Province, too? You don’t intend to tie us to your belt and take us everywhere, do you?"
"Haha~" He Teng was amused by He Zhilan’s words and laughed. Indeed, he sincerely wished he could just take his wife and child wherever he went, thinking about it; this idea is rather comical.
He’s a soldier, but sohow he’s beco soone who can’t part from his wife and children.
He Teng raised his hand to tap He Zhilan’s nose, his eyes full of affection, "Then when I go to the capital, don’t cry."
"Pfft~" He Zhilan rolled her eyes at He Teng, "Brother, you’re getting more childish. I managed to stay in the village for half a year, so why wouldn’t I manage now? If you really want to go to the capital, once the baby is out of the incubator, I’ll take the baby and stay in the capital for a while."
"Let’s forget it for now. You and the baby can’t be tired or exposed to much wind; once you’re discharged, there’ll be young soldiers to escort you back to the troops. Once you’re back, I’ll ask the commissar’s wife to help look after you during your confinent," He Teng knew, though he wished it, doing so wasn’t very wise.
