"So you’re saying this is truly the bloodline of Madam Lan’s twin sister?" Lin Chan asked.

"Yes, I looked into it, and it gave quite a scare. I never expected the Zhang Family to have fallen so far over the years. The late Madam Zhang, who was Madam Lan’s elder sister—this girl is nad Zhang Qi. Zhang Qi’s mother was the youngest daughter of Madam Zhang. Zhang Qi was born after her mother divorced and beca soone’s mistress. Her father had no intentions beyond using her mother for surrogacy. When he saw that she’d given birth to a daughter, he imdiately ran off. Later, her mother ended up mixing in places like nightclubs. The Zhang Family ignored her, and her mother even more so abandoned her as a useless burden. Zhang Qi had no real connection with either her family or her mother. Several years went by without her communicating with the Zhang Family. When Zhang Qi was in her teens, she followed an older boyfriend to the capital to work odd jobs. As for how she ended up dead in the river, that will require further investigation. However, right now is not the right ti to seek justice for her. We’ll have to wait until the political climate stabilizes before looking into it." Chen Yun said.

"After all these years of no contact, her family wouldn’t even notice if she was gone. In fact, that works in our favor." Xing Ye chid in. "Zhang Qi’s mother probably resembled Madam Zhang quite a bit, didn’t she?"

"That’s right. Zhang Qi also takes after her grandmother in appearance. Poor girl—caught up with such an unlucky family. She was truly dealt a bad hand." Chen Yun sighed.

"No wonder she sowhat resembles Zhilan." He Teng suddenly realized. "The granddaughter of twin sisters—of course, both would inherit features from the grandmother."

He Teng silently thanked the poor girl in his heart. She had been pitiful, her death tragic. Days had passed since her death, and no one even reported her missing. Clearly, she had no one who cared about her.

He Teng thought to himself that, once everything settled, he would make sure Chen Yun investigated the circumstances thoroughly to repay Zhang Qi for inadvertently helping them navigate this predicant.

He Zhilan’s murder had drawn significant public attention. Since Lin Chan didn’t intend to conceal her death, he decided to host a press conference that very afternoon, inviting journalists who had been waiting outside all morning.

Although He Teng was Zhilan’s husband, his role as a military officer prevented him from appearing in front of the dia. Lin Chan was naturally the best choice to represent He Teng, given how everyone knew about the close bond between Zhilan and Lin Chan.

When the appointed ti arrived, Lin Chan dressed in black and white to symbolize mourning and made his way to the agreed-upon conference room. Facing the reporters’ barrage of questions, Lin Chan soberly confird the devastating truth that He Zhilan had been murdered.

The press conference lasted no more than fifteen minutes. Without leaving room for further questions, Lin Chan left, wearing a look of grief that clearly told the reporters he couldn’t bear to say more. He imdiately returned ho, collapsed into bed, and fell asleep—determined to recover his energy rather than die of exhaustion over the chaos of Zhilan’s staged death.

Back at the hospital, He Dongxue and Bian Muhe had both taken leaves and stayed there. The group ended up crowding into Chen Yun’s office, where so slept, so chatted, and others brewed tea.

"Have the arrangents for the Gu Family been finalized?" Chen Yun glanced at Bian Mufan, who was sprawled across his desk trying to take a nap. Without warning, Chen Yun kicked him hard, sending him crashing to the floor with a loud thud. Groaning in pain, Bian Mufan made a scene, cursing loudly as he struggled to his feet, looking as though he might rush over and start a fight.

"Everything’s been settled!" Bian Mufan yelled back at Chen Yun, but then lowered his voice and continued, "Lin Chan took care of it early this morning. The letter has already been delivered to the Gu Family. We’re definitely getting our hands on that two hundred thousand! Excellent, excellent. Not only did we give the Gu Family a good scolding, but we managed to squeeze two hundred thousand out of them to spend. Truly fantastic~"
