So, when he arrived at the county town, the first thing he did after withdrawing money was to buy the pendant. He even paired it with a colorful silver chain. Holding it in his palm, he felt it was exceptionally beautiful. It was just a pity that it didn’t have the gold accents the shop owner had ntioned.

"Why wouldn’t I like it?" He Zhilan lowered her head slightly, letting He Teng help her put it on. She then raised her hand to gently touch the pendant and said, "This is a tourmaline, isn’t it? It must not have been cheap, and it’s rose tourmaline. Brother, do you know what rose tourmaline symbolizes?"

"What does it an? I just thought it looked pretty and suited you," He Teng muttered.

"Rose tourmaline symbolizes love." He Zhilan was truly moved. The usually reserved He Teng, who didn’t understand romance at all, had actually thought of getting her a gift. And not just any gift—one with such aningful significance. On top of that, he went out of his way to return to the village after coming from the county town, just to bring it to her.

No wonder his ears turned red when she teased him earlier, asking why he had co back. He had been embarrassed!

He Teng genuinely had no idea tourmaline carried such symbolic aning. He bought it purely because he thought it looked nice and would suit He Zhilan well.

Although it was expensive, the price was still within his acceptable range, so he decided to buy it.

Seeing how much He Zhilan liked it reassured He Teng. It seed she truly loved the gift, which put his mind at ease.

He Zhilan didn’t press further about where He Teng had gotten the money. After all, she knew for certain he wouldn’t have resorted to anything dishonest like stealing or robbing. His heartfelt gesture in giving her this gift made it unnecessary to interrogate him about the source of his funds as if she were a nagging housekeeper.

"Thank you, He Teng." He Zhilan hugged him tightly, overflowing with gratitude as she repeated her thanks. "I used to complain about how dense you were, how you didn’t understand romance. Every ti I told you to get a gift, you’d just say I should choose what I liked and buy it myself—that used to make so angry."

All those tiny grievances from before, all that dissatisfaction, had now completely vanished.

That was simply who He Teng was. She couldn’t expect him to be the kind of man who would whisper sweet nothings or consistently find ways to make her smile. But when it ca to caring for her, He Teng always did it with all his heart.

And today, He Teng had surprised her with such a heartfelt gesture. How could that not move her?

"As long as you like it. I was just worried you wouldn’t." He Teng smiled contentedly, reaching out to return her hug.

In that mont, He Teng suddenly understood the feelings He Zhilan had expressed before. Her desire for a gift wasn’t about lacking sothing or wanting to buy anything in particular; it was about wanting to feel that he cared about her more.

She wanted reassurance that, even when he was away, she was still on his mind.

The two of them lingered affectionately in the room for a little while before stepping out. Knowing that He Teng hadn’t had lunch, He Zhilan took him back to the dining table. When her father asked why He Teng had been delayed earlier, He Zhilan helped cover for him.

After lunch, He Teng left the village once again. This ti, when Zhilan bid him farewell, her eyes were brimming with tears as she watched him leave. But because of the necklace he had specially given her, it didn’t seem as unbearable as it had that morning.

She understood now. While she would miss him, it was evident that He Teng missed her even more. Why else would he rember to buy this necklace for her? Why else would he go to such lengths, hurrying back to the village just to personally place it around her neck?

In their love, she wasn’t the only one deeply invested. He Teng, just like her, loved with all his heart.

He Teng was simply introverted by nature, not soone who easily expressed his emotions. His silence didn’t an he didn’t love her.

And that... was enough.

With this belief in her heart, and with the necklace he had given her as a constant companion, Zhilan knew she could persevere.
