After hanging up the call with Lin Chan and agreeing to call him back in an hour and a half, He Teng saw that he still had plenty of ti and decided to head to the county town with the shopping list written by He Zhilan.
Although it was a county town, it was very underdeveloped—there wasn’t even a shopping mall. This county town actually resembled more of a township near the He Family’s ancestral ho, and it was even less bustling than that township.
There was only one shop in the entire county town that sold skincare products. Many of the items on He Zhilan’s list weren’t available, so He Teng had to ask the shopkeeper to find similar substitutes.
"Young man, these must be things your partner asked you to buy, right? Your girlfriend certainly knows her stuff. It’s a sha, though—this county town is small, and the things she wants are expensive. My little shop wouldn’t dare stock them," said the shopkeeper, a local woman in her early thirties. Her skin was dark, but her teeth were strikingly beautiful. Given her line of work, she was talkative, and seeing that He Teng was alone, she struck up a conversation.
"My wife wanted these," He Teng replied with a nod.
"Your wife, huh? Congratulations on getting married!" The shopkeeper laughed, her tone light-hearted and amusing, almost enough to make people grin. "You two must not be locals, right? Local folks here wouldn’t know much about these fancy costics."
The shopkeeper pointed to the list in He Teng’s hand, recognizing from the handwriting that it must have been written by a woman. "Your wife’s handwriting is so pretty—she’s definitely well-educated."
"My wife is a local. She studied for a few years and now teaches elentary school in the township where we live. She learned about these things while studying away from ho. She’s the only daughter in her family, so I’ve co here as their live-in son-in-law." He Teng finished speaking and broke into a grin, displaying an unmistakably honest expression.
"Ah, I see~" The shopkeeper’s face lit up with understanding and imdiately started talking about how hardworking the local girls were. She rattled on about how they might be darker-skinned than girls from other places due to the local environnt, but they were definitely more industrious and capable.
It seed as if she was afraid that He Teng, after seeing beautiful girls from elsewhere, would find fault with the local won.
Carrying the items he had bought, He Teng flashed another simple grin, thanked her, and left. Sotis, being plain-looking had its advantages. With one earnest smile, people would believe whatever you said. After all, he had such an exceptionally honest appearance.
Buying the skincare products had taken quite a bit of ti, especially the effort spent searching for shops. Only forty minutes had passed, and there was still plenty of ti before the agreed-upon call. So, He Teng wandered along the streets, picking up various foods and snacks to take back with him. When he eventually accumulated too many things to carry conveniently, he simply followed the lead of local residents and bought a basket to strap onto his back, placing everything inside as he continued shopping.
Passing by a small shop that sold gold and silver items, He Teng thought he might as well spend so ti browsing and stepped inside.
The shop wasn’t big. There wasn’t much gold on display, but there was a lot more silver and jade.
Walking around the counter, He Teng’s attention got caught by a red pendant, and he paused to take a closer look.
"This is Red Tourmaline. Because of its vibrant color, it’s especially suitable for young girls to wear. This pendant would look best paired with a gold alloy chain. However, this particular type of gold alloy isn’t available in our country yet—it’s still considered rare even abroad. So here, pairing it with a gold chain or a silver chain would be very beautiful too!"
