"For , it doesn’t matter where I stay," Lan Li said with a smile to his mother, and after greeting everyone in the room, he asked, "When I got off the train, I heard so people discussing an incident that happened a few days ago in the capital. They were talking about He Teng’s wife, He Zhilan, being the sa person as Gu Zhilan. What’s this all about?"
"It’s just soone scheming against the Gu Family or He Zhilan in the shadows," Grandma Gu waved it off unconcerned, "After that news ca out, there were also sayings that it was a publicity stunt by He Zhilan for her company’s new product. Later on, He Zhilan herself issued a statent in the newspaper denying any connection to the matter, but until now, nobody has found out who released that information."
"When I heard that news, I almost believed it," Lan Li’s mother admitted with an embarrassed smile, "I didn’t expect it was just a rumor."
Lan Li glanced at his mother; previously, she had her suspicions and had even asked him to inquire about He Zhilan from He Teng while he was in the army. At that ti, He Zhilan had denied it, so for all these years, Lan Li had never given it another thought.
However, for so reason, this ti, Lan Li couldn’t help but feel there’s no smoke without fire. Why would soone spread such rumors out of the blue? This rumor seed to be directed against the Gu Family and He Zhilan, but it didn’t seem to benefit anyone, did it?
The Gu Family of three stayed at the Lan Family’s house until after nine o’clock before they left to rest at the nearby Gu Family residence. Knowing Lan Li was tired from days of train travel, his mother told him to rest early.
"Mom, I have sothing to talk to you about," Lan Li called out to his mother and then went up to his study on the second floor with her.
Although Lan Li always lived in the army and seldom ca ho, his and his father’s studies were separate; his father’s was on the right side of the second floor, while his was the first room near the stairs.
His mother entered Lan Li’s study and, seeing his sowhat somber expression, thought that sothing had happened in S Province. She sighed and said, "Xiao’en, ah, she really caused you trouble."
"What I want to talk about has nothing to do with her," Lan Li shook his head and then began talking about arresting Lan Song in S Province, "Mom, when Lan Song was on the run, he kidnapped He Zhilan as a hostage. Back then, he ntioned Gu Zhilan and even offered information about her in exchange for his release. At the ti, I didn’t give it much thought, but after hearing that news at the train station, for no apparent reason, a lot of odd questions suddenly popped into my mind."
"Are you suspecting that the news might be true?" Lan Li’s mother was astonished, "Isn’t that absurd?"

Later, when Lan Song ntioned Gu Zhilan, his deanor seed like he actually knew sothing about Gu Zhilan. Even more peculiar was the way he spoke at the ti."
It was only the strangeness of Lan Song’s way of speaking that struck him at the ti. But now, upon reflection and piecing it together with the so-called rumor, Lan Li suddenly ca up with a bold speculation.
