He Teng cast a cursory glance at He Zhilan, who was acting spoiled to avoid his reprimand. But seeing her pitifully lift both hands up to his lips, he still couldn’t help but blow gently on them twice, much like coaxing a daughter.
“Be more careful in the future,” He Teng said. “I’ll take you to the hospital this afternoon, then I have to step out for a bit. It shouldn’t be long. You’ll wait for at the hospital to co pick you up. I’m really afraid that if I’m not by your side for an afternoon, you’ll manage to break an arm!”
He Zhilan kicked He Teng indignantly. His words were questioning her intelligence, weren’t they?
He Zhilan claid not to rember, and He Teng did not press her further. Now, he was truly treading lightly around He Zhilan, planning to discuss her condition with her current psychologist in the afternoon. Maybe the doctor could determine the cause.
He Teng could see that He Zhilan’s injuries were indeed from a fall, with wounds on the palms of her hands and her knees – all abrasions with broken skin. But He Zhilan couldn’t rember why she fell or when and where it happened, and he dared not ask too much.
In the afternoon, after taking He Zhilan to the hospital, He Teng spoke with her psychologist, who told him that she likely had an episode at the ti of her fall, leading to her forgetfulness about anything that happened during the episode. It was as if she didn’t rember that during her episodes she would tell people she has a son or would uncontrolledly buy lots of children’s stuff and then throw it away.
The psychologist could only offer an explanation, but not the details of He Zhilan’s fall. However, it wasn’t long after leaving the hospital that He Teng learned from Chief Gu about how He Zhilan fell.
Chief Gu personally chaired the eting that He Teng attended in the afternoon. After the eting, Chief Gu pulled He Teng aside to ask, “Your wife’s injury isn’t serious, is it?”
“How did you know my wife was injured?” He Teng was taken aback, frowning, with a sharp intensity in his scrutiny of Chief Gu.
“This morning, my wife and I were driving out. As we passed by a shopping mall, your wife suddenly dashed across the road with a large bag of toys. Our car nearly hit her. Fortunately, we braked in ti, but your wife still fell trying to dodge. We wanted to take her to the hospital, but she said she was in a hurry to et soone for coffee and left.”
“So that’s what happened.” Upon hearing about the toys, He Teng couldn’t help but sigh. She had indeed had an episode, but her reckless nature hadn’t changed at all. It was fortunate that the brakes were applied in ti; otherwise, she wouldn’t even know where to start with the pain.
“By the way,” seeing that He Teng didn’t have much of a reaction, Gu Hengyuan realized that He Teng was aware of his wife’s injury, but not the circumstances of it, “I t your wife today, and I felt that she was a bit odd. She seed not to recognize and my wife; seeing in uniform, she even spoke to amiably.”
After a pause, Gu Hengyuan continued, “Don’t get mad at what I’m about to say, but I think your wife might need a psychologist. As her husband, you should have noticed. If you need, I can refer you to one in M Country, highly knowledgeable and capable, who could probably help your wife.”
“No need,” He Teng dropped three words and turned to leave imdiately, not sparing Chief Gu much of a pleasant expression.
