“You sure about that?” The cruel, cold threat made Abigail instinctively step away from Leon, giving him a strange look before confirming.

“Sure. Anyway, it’s just the two of us in this mine. If sothing happens to you and I don’t explain why, nobody will know how you died.” Leon nodded matter-of-factly.

“Alright then.” Abigail shrugged at his words. She knew Leon was joking, but she had no intention of backing down.

After all, she’d set her sights on becoming an adventurer. How could she possibly be afraid to take on a monster? Next ti they ran into sothing like that, she’d make sure Leon knew she wasn’t just here for decoration.

Once they finished off the stone golem, Leon pulled out his pickaxe and resud his mining spree.

Below the 30th floor, the chances of finding copper ore clearly went up. Just walking a few steps often revealed a copper vein, and sotis an entire cluster. That’s when Leon would pull out a Cherry Bomb.

“You’re actually carrying bombs?” Abigail stared in surprise as the cherry-sized bomb cleared out a massive patch of copper ore in seconds.

“Is that a problem?” Leon looked at her in confusion.

“Aren’t you afraid of collapsing the mine and burying yourself alive?” she pressed.

“Not really. We’re not even close to that. You’re underestimating how tough these walls are.” Leon waved it off. In fact, he had worried about that at first. But after using Cherry Bombs the first few tis and seeing that they barely scratched the cave walls or bedrock, he stopped thinking about it.

“Oh.” Abigail nodded, then shalessly held out her hand. “Can I have one? I want to try.”

“Next ti we run into a copper cluster, I’ll let you have a go. I don’t have many left, so I need to make sure each one counts.” Leon actually appreciated her willingness to try, so he didn’t mind granting her request.

“Wow, thanks, Leon! Love you!” Abigail bead, pumping her fist in excitent.

“I think of you as a brother, and you want to sleep with ?” Leon teased.

“Ugh, I ant I love your bombs, not you.” Abigail quickly corrected herself.

“Mhm.” Leon nodded without arguing. That smug look almost made her punch him in the eye, but in the end she held back—this was still a dangerous mine, after all.

They continued exploring. Under a gemstone node, Leon dug up an athyst and also found a stairwell leading down.

Just as he was about to pocket the athyst, he noticed Abigail staring at it with longing eyes.

Holding it up, he asked, “Want it?”

“No.” She shook her head, but her gaze betrayed her true feelings.

Leon tossed it to her. “Take it. Consider it a keepsake for your first trip down here.”

To Leon, an athyst wasn’t worth much anymore. He’d already found seven gemstone nodes on this run, so one more or less made no difference.

Abigail took it but looked uneasy. “Co by my place later. I’ve got so pocket money saved—I can pay you for it.”

“No need. It’s not worth much.” Leon waved it off. “Alright, let’s head down. Rember what I said: if we run into monsters and you freeze up, that athyst is going to be your grave marker.”

Abigail stuck her tongue out at him, then followed him down the stairs.

“Oh, now this should be fun.”

The mont Leon saw the neat, square layout of the chamber—and the total absence of ore—he knew they’d hit a monster floor.

“Why are there no ores here?” Abigail asked as she looked around.

“And it’s so bright. Where’s the light coming from?”

“Stop thinking about this place like a normal person. Grab your weapon. We’ve got a fight coming.” Leon drew his Galaxy Waterlon Knife.

“Chirp!”

Before he’d even finished speaking, a piercing screech tore through the air. A giant bat swooped down at him, but one slash was all it took to drop it, leaving behind only a pair of curled wings.

“A monster floor’s just a level full of monsters. To get to the next floor, we have to kill them all. Looks like we’re going to be busy.”

The bat was just the appetizer. Leon had already spotted a wave of stone golems trudging toward them. They were slow and not much of a threat—but the bats circling overhead were another matter.

“That’s… a lot,” Abigail muttered, swallowing hard.

“Don’t stray too far from . You handle the golems, I’ll take the bats.” Leon clapped her on the shoulder. “I know you can handle it. And don’t forget—I’m right here.”

“Got it.” Abigail straightened up, recalling her sword practice, and charged alongside Leon toward the golems.

Slow as they were, their sheer numbers ant that waiting for them to reach them would only end in getting surrounded. Better to strike first and scatter them.

This ti, Abigail didn’t hesitate. As soon as she got close, she drove her blade into a golem’s eye socket, then instinctively twisted the hilt, grinding the point through half its head.

Leon raised an approving brow. “Not bad. That’s how you do it—hit them hard, leave no loose ends. You’ve got the right idea.”

Abigail rolled her eyes. “I only twisted it because my sword got stuck.”

“Well, guess I praised you for nothing.” Leon shook his head, then extended his Galaxy Waterlon Knife into a three-ter blade, cleaving four golems clean in half.

The Galaxy Weapon’s sharpness and raw power were on full display. Against these stone-bodied foes, Abigail’s longsword could pierce, but Leon’s blade sliced through them like a hot knife through butter.

Abigail muttered enviously, “I wish I had a weapon like that.”
