"No, I suppose you are right," sighed Pippa. "It’s a pity about his looks, though."

I remained silent, not bothering to ntion to her that I happened to like his looks. Mind you, I also liked his before look, too. As long as she or Stargazer thought that his transformation had to do with governnt experints than with , I was good.

I didn’t need them to know I was Subject 1. I had enough crap to deal with.

"Was there anything else I was supposed to talk to you about?" she asked as she cocked her head to the side.

"You’re asking ?" I replied, wondering what on Earth was going on in her brain. Then again, I had the sinking suspicion that there was nothing going on in her brain.

"Your drink," she said, holding up her index finger. "Not interested, don’t bother," I replied concisely. Especially now that I had docunted proof of what that drink was supposed to do to the humans who consud it and its unintended side effects.

"Co to The Alliance," she continued, holding up a second finger. "Not interested," I answered.

"Who was that?" she asked, holding up a third finger on her left hand and pointing at Midnight with her right hand. "Zeus. Failed experint," I said, pointing to him myself.

"Humans disappearing." She held up a fourth finger and held it out to . "Invisible man. Got it."

"I thought I had a fifth question," huffed Pippa as she went back through her list of questions. "Right! Do you know where Earth is?"

"No, if I did, I would be there already," I assured her.

"Oh, okay. Well, I guess that is all my questions then," she said with a nod.

"Good. Let’s not do this again then," I answered as I looked at Jun Li, and he quickly cut off the link between the two of us. "Dear God, she is tiring," I exclaid as I slumped down into my chair, rubbing my forehead.

"The ships are abducting their own humans," said Jun Li seriously as he turned around in his chair.

"You caught that too, huh?" I answered with a sigh. This was getting a little ridiculous. It looked like Stargazer was not the only ship working for The Alliance.

"Why?" asked Midnight, the confusion evident on his face.

"Isn’t that just the million-dollar question," I said. Stretching my neck and spine, I felt the relief from nurous pops and cracks.

"And I am a governnt experint went wrong?" smiled Midnight, changing the subject.

"What else did you want to say?" I asked, turning to him and raising an eyebrow. "That you are a genetically superior Njeriuujkian that was chosen by the very being that The Alliance is trying to recreate? If you get down to the brass tacks, you are part of a governnt experint, only they experinted on , and you are just a poor sucker caught up in the middle of it all."

Midnight roughly pulled into his arms and leaned down, almost in half, to be able to look at in my eyes. He let out a low, rumbling growl that I think was supposed to be intimidating; but only caused to beco wet. "You are everything I could have dread of and more. Never speak about yourself like that. Do you understand ? You are not an experint. You are soone who has had terrible things happen to them, and yet you stand tall instead of crumpled like so victim. That is the type of female that I have always wanted as my mate, and I am thankful that I got you. Do you understand?"

I looked at him for a mont and lted into his hands. Standing upright, he wrapped his arms around and let rest against him for a mont.

I could feel myself seconds away from snapping, and I was more than a little concerned about what would happen if I did. I needed to get away from it all, and I needed to do it fast.

"Hey, Jun Li, are there any weapons we need to collect or places I can go to get away from everything?" I asked, my forehead still resting against Midnight’s chest.

"I have just the thing," said Jun Li.

"I fucking hate that AI," I grumbled as I buried deeper into the fur coat I had on. Pulling the hood up over my head, I hunched over, trying to keep as warm as possible.

"Are you okay, Sweetness?" asked Midnight as he walked beside in the knee-deep snow as if he were walking down a sandy beach.

"I think I fucking hate you, too," I growled at him as a particularly brutal gust of wind took the breath from my very lungs. I waited for a second before I was able to take in another breath through my nose. The biggest thing was not to breathe in through your nose.

I an, either way, it was cold enough to damage both my nose and my lungs, but at least the lungs hurt less.

Midnight turned to look at , concerned, as he picked up and carried close to his bare chest. Yeah, it was at least -50 degrees Celsius with the windchill, and Wolfman was walking around without any extra clothing or gear.

"I hate to ask, but does your body not regulate itself?" he asked cautiously, not wanting to risk my wrath.

"No, I think it is pretty clear that my body does not regulate itself," I said as my teeth started to chatter and my body started to shiver. "But shivering is good. It is when I stop that you need to be concerned because it ans that I am experiencing hypothermia," I continued, trying to give him a crash course in human anatomy just in case sothing happened to .

"How is your species still alive?" wondered Midnight as he rearranged my body so my face was buried in the fur around his neck and my chest was able to leech off his warmth. I wrapped my legs around his waist, and he held up high with a single hand under my ass.

It might not be the most graceful way of being carried, but at least it was warm.
