"You told a Royal to shut up. What if the Princess gets offended?" Lady Magdalene asked as she winced slightly hearing the sliding door of the room clacking as it was forced to shut.

"Better to be offended than felling guilty..." Mr. Ed muttered under his breath. With all the pain dications he was in, he felt like he was floating in ether. But even in that state, he could say that the Princess was feeling guilty.

By the speed his wife was brought here and with His Majesty himself talking to his wife regarding his surgery, it should be under The Princess’ efforts. For her who was in the blast herself, running around making travel plans for his wife... And first thing in the morning, she’s here visiting him.

What a stupidly noble person she is! Can’t she be selfish a little without feeling guilty and rest? Ugh! I know she’ll try to get discharged from my duties citing my injuries. Or will she transfer to a desk job? Ah! I hate this!

"I don’t want to lose this job."

Mr. Ed felt his wife’s slender fingers grabbing his hand and looked at her. With her green eyes that always had a srising charm, he felt calm. But seeing her sigh, his heart skipped a beat.

"You’re sighing," he tried to hold her hand, but his fingers felt numb and he couldn’t move much. "I did it again, huh? Putting my life at risk... "He took in a deep breath. Last ti when he saved the Great King a couple decades ago, she was his betrothed. She sat silently by his side and sighed like this and he promised he won’t risk his life like this again. And here he is... not even feeling guilty for breaking the promise to his wife.

She must have been so worried thinking about .

"Maggie, do you want to quit?"

"Robby... You’re cruel to ask that right after saying that you don’t want to lose your job," she sniffed wiping the corner of her eye.

"I will if you want to." Mr. Ed used all his strength to hold her hand. He didn’t want to quit. But if his interests might hurt his relationship with his wife, he’d rather not risk it. He’d be unhappy doing other jobs, but he’d be complete with his wife and children with him.

Lady Magdalene looked at him and smiled, "You know my earning is enough to run our family. And as your wife, along with this title of ’Lady’, I get a lot of benefits even if you die and I don’t have to worry for our children’s future moneywise."

"Well thanks for telling you don’t need ," Mr. Ed faked being angry, but in fact he didn’t mind his wife’s bluntness. She’s always like that and he loved her for that.

"No, I still need you... In fact, I love you more than I thought I would, considering that ours was an arranged marriage," Lady Magdalene’s eyes misted, "You are my greatest support and I won’t be ntally sane without you. And that’s why I need you to stay alive."

Mr. Ed was lost for words. This is the first ti his wife is confessing to him as far as he could rember. To be honest, he never confessed her too. He has bought her gifts; they’d gone on vacations... They are married and have two kids and yet, they never confessed love to each other,

He didn’t have a father and his mother wanted him to marry the daughter of her old friend who was orphaned and so he agreed to marry her. Magdalene – he saw her for the first ti on the day of their engagent party. She was pleasant to look at and he didn’t mind spending the rest of his life with her. He treated her fairly and did everything a good husband would do and she tried to be a good wife and mother. They had good tis and bad tis. They had a lot of argunts and a lot of pleasant days too in their twenty years of marriage.

To think at the age of forty three he’d receive a confession from his wife, he felt delighted and his heart raced.

All this ti, we thought we were just honouring our wedding vows, but we have fallen in love with each other without knowing, haven’t we?

"Well Mrs. Magdalene Gaston, I love you too," he said with a smile and watched her freeze, before her face going entirely red. She probably didn’t realise she had confessed to him.

Look at her burying her face in the sheets... Is she that shy? How cute!

"Maggie..." he called and watched her burying her head deep in the sheets. "Maggie..."

"Shut up Robby!" Magdalene sprung up straight and patted her cheeks to compose herself. "As I was saying, I need you... our kids need you."

"Ah...right." Seeing her serious face, his smile decreased.

My wife wants to quit, doesn’t she? Maybe be I should change departnts? But I like being near the Princess!

"And that’s why I don’t want you to quit!"

"What?" Now Mr. Ed was genuinely surprised.

"Robby... I know you always tried to be considerate towards my feelings and stayed away from being a bodyguard after you received Knighthood. I know you loved following around the Dowager Queen, being her ’Hand’. But only recently after you started running security for the Princess, I saw the joy in your heart. You were always happy going to work and you ca ho happy after a long day at work too. I even wrongly assud you had a thing for the Princess..." she mumbled the last sentence.

"You were jealous of the Princess?" Mr. Ed received another surprise. He thought his wife never cared about such things.

Is this the sa woman I’ve been living with for twenty years?

"I an, she is young and very attractive. Most n have mid-life crisis when they-.. But, that’s not the point... Geez! What’s with you today? Let speak!" Lady Magdalene cleared her throat to stop herself from going on tangents.

She doubted her husband for a week or so, but then she realised she trusted him more than she realised. And eting the Princess face-to-face, she could see the kind of person she is.

She’s a rather pitiful person who invoked the maternal feelings in her. It was probably the sa for her husband too. He did tell her how the Princess doesn’t call him by his na probably because he shares the sa na as her late father. He probably sees her as a child. Judging by their interaction, it seed to be the case. The Princess acts like a child around him too.

"Do you rember what you said to my relatives on the day of our engagent, when they said that I don’t have to finish my studies now that I got married? They even said that I have to be a good wife by staying in the house taking care of you and bear children?"

Sir Robert closed his eyes with a smile. ’She is MY wife! If she wants to study, she will. And I, her husband, will make sure she gets the best education she wants!’

"You were barely nineteen and they were pretty annoying as they were happy to send you off. I heard one of your aunts -that Aunt Grace, whispering that she’s relieved she doesn’t have to feed you anymore. You have the stomach of a bird and yet they were all behaving like- tch! "Mr. Ed really didn’t want to rember them. He was just a foot guard in the palace back then and they all laughed at him when he said that.

They all thought of his wife as a burden and guess who is having the best life among them now? Heh! Not only his wife beca a ’Lady’ as she married a Knight, she is now earning more than anyone in her family as she finished her studies and got a good job. And now they all pander to her begging her to get jobs for their children and pay for their tuitions. Disgraceful people!

"So that’s why you hate them still..." she was touched. She didn’t know he heard what her relatives talked about her. Her parents died suddenly and her future beca a question mark. She had to agree to the marriage, but she never thought she’d hit gold with this amazing human.

"You refrained from buying anything you like and paid for my tuition. You waited till I finished my studies to have kids, even though everyone pressured us. Robby... you gave up a lot for ," Magdalene held Mr. Ed’s hand. "I want you to do what you want and what makes you happy. I won’t stop you. You can be yourself and I don’t want you to lose yourself anymore."

Mr. Ed’s eyes misted. "Maggie, I did what a husband should do. And... I do want to follow the Princess. She’s soone with great potential and I want to watch her close as she unleashes herself. Thank you for understanding ."

"I know. It’s because I’m a great woman I understand."

"Did you bring pie?"

"Really Robby? Pie? You think I was in the mood to bake a pie when I heard you were hurt..."

Hearing his wife’s usual rambling, Mr. Ed closed his eyes to sleep. He felt happy and peaceful.
