69: Chapter 68: Show Him More Respect 69: Chapter 68: Show Him More Respect There was only one al a day, not much, and it tasted terrible, but Yang Yi desperately needed this al.

Whether the food tasted good or bad was a consideration only after having eaten one’s fill.

When one’s perpetually starving, anything could taste delicious.

So Yang Yi waited for today’s food, and while waiting, he casually sang a song.

Yang Yi had long lost track of ti.

Waiting for daylight and darkness to gauge the passing days only intensified the discomfort of solitary confinent, so he had voluntarily given up on keeping track of ti.

He sang with great fervor, but just as he was imrsed in his singing, the iron door suddenly opened.

Each day, a small hatch in the iron door would open to allow food and water to be passed through.

Yang Yi would wait to finish eating before placing the utensils back through the hatch, awaiting the prison guard to collect them.

This was his only chance for interaction with the outside world each day, but the guards never spoke a word to him, so Yang Yi had given up any attempt at conversation with them early on.

But today, it was the door itself that opened, not the small hatch.

Yang Yi was taken aback, so he stopped singing and turned his attention to the door.

As the door opened, a prison guard walked in.

Upon seeing Yang Yi standing there, staring at him in good condition, the guard was extrely shocked and imdiately drew his baton!

“Get down!

Don’t move!”

Yang Yi was puzzled, but he imdiately crouched and placed his hands on his head, then asked innocently, “What’s the matter, officer?”

The guard looked stunned, then imdiately retreated outside the iron door and slamd it shut once more.

“Fuck!

What’s with that guy inside!

He’s gone mad!

He’s gone mad!

He’s going to kill !

He wants to kill !”

Hearing the guard ranting outside, Yang Yi couldn’t hold back and shouted, “Officer!

I’m not crazy; I certainly don’t want to hurt you.”

The iron door wasn’t locked, so it quickly opened again, and another prison guard walked in, looking at Yang Yi with the sa surprised expression.

The first guard squeezed through the doorway, looked at Yang Yi, and said with great agitation, “He’s been locked up for seven days?

Seven days!

Huh?

I thought he’d be lying on the floor like a lump of mud, but look at him, does he look like he’s been locked up for seven days?”

Yang Yi looked sowhat frail, but his eyes were bright and spirited.

“Officer, not everyone goes mad after seven days in confinent.

I don’t, so does this an I can get out now?

If that’s the case, can you take with you?

It’s really hard to bear here, thank you.”

Yang Yi felt compelled to speak, fearing he might be left in confinent otherwise.

After hearing Yang Yi’s words, the guard swallowed hard and stamred, “Prisoner 3387, you’re free to go.

Stand up and turn around.”

Yang Yi slowly stood up, turned his back to the two guards, and extended his arms to be handcuffed.

Actually, Yang Yi should have approached the iron door to be handcuffed before the guards would open it, but no prisoner locked up for seven days could still follow a guard’s directions, rendering this rule useless.

Therefore, the guards always ca in directly through the door to drag out the prisoners.

But today, the situation was clearly different.

Yang Yi didn’t need to be dragged out, he simply appeared a bit weak because, although there was food over these seven days, it was truly not enough to satisfy his hunger.

So, he looked sowhat haggard due to the days of starvation, and that was all.

Yang Yi was the first person to walk out of solitary confinent alone.

Seeing Yang Yi erge from solitary, each guard who saw him was extrely surprised, and the guard who was supposed to drag Yang Yi out was now just following behind him.

Stepping outside of solitary, Yang Yi looked up at the sun, took a deep breath, and then smiled at the guard, “Officer, where are we going?”

The guard moved from behind Yang Yi to stand in front of him, then with a gentle smile said, “I have received orders to escort you back to your own cell.

Usually, those who just exited solitary can’t even ask questions, so we let them go back to their cells to cool off a bit first.”

Yang Yi had never seen such a peaceful smile on a guard’s face; it was as if the guard in front of him was not a guard, or as if he himself was not a prisoner.

After speaking, the guard suddenly said with a laugh, “My na is Kato, you can call Kato.

I have a suggestion, if you’re hungry, you don’t have to go back to your cell right now, you can go straight to lunch, it’s already started.”

Yang Yi nodded repeatedly, smiling, “Great, thank you so much, officer!”

Kato nodded, gestured with his hand, and laughed, “Follow then, go back on your own after eating.

Tomorrow is when your sentence will be announced.

You might get an extended sentence, but that’s okay, with good behavior, you can actually be out pretty quickly.”

Yang Yi was quite astonished, extrely astonished; he really didn’t know why he was suddenly receiving special treatnt.

The prisoners were lining up to get food; it was lunchti.

A small part of the people were already sitting at the tables, most of them were still queuing, but Kato led Yang Yi right past the long line.

Yang Yi was cutting in line, sothing that could have caused an uproar, but it didn’t count as cutting when led by a guard.

Passing by the long queue, everyone who saw Yang Yi seed almost ready to pop their eyes out.

Prisoners who were chatting stopped their conversations, just staring dumbfoundedly at him, and after a brief explanation from others nearby, looked at Yang Yi with even more astonishnt.

Reaching the area to get utensils, Kato stopped, then he unlocked Yang Yi’s handcuffs, smiling gently at him before turning to the person with the spoon serving food and saying, “This guy just ca out of solitary, give him a little extra, he must be starving.”

Yang Yi smiled at Kato, feeling that Kato was really too kind, despite initially ranting that he himself had gone crazy and that he was going to kill him.

Now, it seed Kato was just a bit faint-hearted, but still a very decent man.

Kato left, as his task was completed, and as he was leaving, at the cafeteria entrance, the guard holding a gun spoke to him in a low voice, “Hey, buddy, what’s going on?”

Kato swallowed and whispered to his colleague, “I’ll tell you, that kid was in solitary for seven days, see that?

Does he look like soone who’s been in solitary for seven days?

Buddy, he stayed just like this while inside, get it?”

The guard with the gun looked at Yang Yi, swallowed, and murmured, “We should be nice to him then, I got it, thanks, buddy.”

Kato let out a breath, as if speaking to his colleague and to himself, murmured, “A guy who spends seven days in solitary and cos out without a scratch, buddy, he’ll be out in a few years.

We better show him the respect he deserves.

That’s it for , I need to get back, see ya, buddy.”
