27: Chapter 26 Despair 27: Chapter 26 Despair A gunshot rang out, and a large hole appeared in the back of Daniel’s head, with a mixture of blood and brain matter spraying onto the rear window and roof of the car.

The bloody head slumped onto Yang Yi’s legs.

Yang Yi was completely stunned.

Daniel had committed suicide, just like that, dead.

Kate was also shocked.

She clenched her fists, turned her head to look at Yang Yi and the now dead body of Daniel, unable to utter a sound.

“How did they find us…”

Kadipur’s voice sounded pained.

Yang Yi shivered and then, as if snapping out of a dream, exclaid in alarm, “The phones, our phones, Jenny’s phone, damn it, our phones weren’t secured!”

Yang Yi was full of self-reproach.

He had thought of this possibility; the killers must have seen Jenny’s phone and even knew Kate’s phone number.

But he had thought that using mobile phones to track location required public resources, like telecommunication companies having the technical ability to track phones, so he had let his guard down.

Now it seed that Yang Yi had underestimated the resources these assassins could access.

After all, less than two hours had passed since they t Kate until now.

Mistakes couldn’t be made, for mistakes cost lives.

Rembering what Li Fan had said to him before he left, Yang Yi felt dazed, but now was not the ti for regrets or self-bla.

Yang Yi shouted loudly, “Throw the phones away!

Can’t throw them!”

After shouting contradictorily, Yang Yi urgently added, “Our phones might reveal our location, but we can’t just throw them away.

We must toss them sowhere they can’t be found.

Now, take out the SIM cards!”

Yang Yi fumbled to take out his phone, while Kadipur suddenly bellowed, “Watch out!”

The car was struck again in the rear, and then another car closed in on the taxi from the side.

The assassins didn’t want to kill the people in the taxi outright, they wanted to capture them alive, and they had to take them alive.

A car in the oncoming lane slamd on the brakes to avoid colliding with the assassins’ car, which was forced to slow down and pull in behind the taxi.

The street was narrow.

Kadipur’s driving skills were excellent, and he was extrely familiar with the terrain, which saved everyone in Yang Yi’s group.

Kadipur suddenly veered into a small alley.

The alley was originally prohibited for vehicles, being extrely narrow, but after Kadipur had driven in, he continued to accelerate frantically.

With a sudden slam of the brakes, Kadipur turned once again inside the alley, entering an even narrower alley that barely accommodated the car’s width, and it wasn’t over yet.

After turning again in the alley, Kadipur suddenly turned off the car lights.

After three turns, Kadipur finally shook off the pursuers.

This had nothing to do with driving skills; it was purely due to his familiarity with the terrain.

In the web-like maze of narrow alleys, one missed turn ant the pursuers would struggle to catch up again.

With the lights off, Kadipur, breathing heavily, said, “Get out.

If you walk this way, make a right at the second alley entrance, and you’ll quickly reach the main road, near the Thas.”

Yang Yi wanted to retrieve the gun still in Daniel’s hand, but Kadipur took a breath and said tremulously, “Don’t move, don’t touch him.

He committed suicide.

If you take the gun, then you beco the murderer.

Leave the gun.”

Yang Yi’s hand had already touched the gun, but after considering Kadipur’s words, he finally withdrew his hand.

Kate opened the car door and got out, then she said to Kadipur in a low, urgent voice, “Hurry up, what are you waiting for?”

Kadipur exhaled, pressed his chest, and then said in a low voice, “I’m dying…”

The car door opened, and the interior light ca on.

It was then that Kate noticed Kadipur’s stomach and chest already had two bullet holes.

“Grab your things and get moving.

I can hold on a little longer.

I’ll draw them away.

Go, hurry, hurry up…”

As Kadipur spoke of leading the pursuers away, his head suddenly lolled to one side, and then he stopped moving.

Yang Yi pulled over Daniel’s backpack and then took his own suitcase from the trunk, whispering to Kate, “Follow !

Quick!”

Kate hesitated.

Yang Yi whispered harshly, “Kadipur is dead, and if we don’t want to die, we’d better not waste his death.

Co with .”

He grabbed Kate’s hand, and the dazed Kate staggered along behind Yang Yi.

He shot her a surprised glance and noticed she too was covered in blood.

“Have you been shot?”

Kate looked down at herself and pressed her left side, then whispered, “Yes, I’ve been shot…”

Yang Yi was truly desperate.

He clenched his teeth, and though his stomach still ached, he couldn’t help but steady Kate, helping her stumble forward.

Just as Kadipur had said, after turning the corner, Yang Yi saw a road lit by streetlamps.

Yang Yi stopped in the dark.

He was covered in Daniel’s blood and needed to change clothes.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t get far before being spotted.

Even if the killers didn’t find him, the police would.

Yang Yi quickly stripped off his T-shirt and pants, for his suitcase held his clothes.

He put on a new T-shirt and shorts for himself, stripped Kate of her T-shirt too, and tightly wrapped a clean cloth around her wounded stomach.

He also put another one of his T-shirts on her.

Yang Yi put so important items in a small bag that he took from his suitcase and slung over his back.

Then, he placed the bloodied clothes and Daniel’s backpack inside the suitcase, still dragging the suitcase with one hand and supporting Kate with the other, they slowly stepped onto the road.

On the road, Kate whispered, “Where can we go?”

“I don’t know…”

Yang Yi was equally bewildered.

He glanced back, then said with deep uncertainty, “Where can we go?”

Kate closed her eyes in despair and said softly, “We won’t get far.

No one can help us now.

I’m sorry, Ross.

It looks like we’re really going to die.

You were right.

We should find a more comfortable way to die.

I don’t want to end up in their hands.

I don’t.”

Yang Yi tightened his arm around Kate, whispering fiercely, “I don’t want to die!

So let’s at least keep moving.”

Dragging Kate forward, they moved slowly.

Yang Yi kept wondering what hope he still had, what help he could possibly get.

Quite naturally, he rembered the contacts his father had left him, given to him by Li Fan.

It turned out the address book was useful after all, even though he was able to get hold of only John Jones.

Just as naturally, if he could get hold of John Jones, then perhaps he could reach others too.

The hope was slim, but amidst despair, even the faintest hope was still hope.

Yang Yi took out his phone and dialed a number etched in his mory.

As soon as the call connected, he imdiately said, “I’m looking for Mr.

Felice.

I am the son of Jas Yang.

Right now, I desperately need help!”
