Chapter 1241: Chapter 1246: Return

The first thing after returning to the United States was to et Aaron.

Aaron truly valued Yarebin’s funeral. With current technological capabilities, photos and videos could be transmitted to Aaron imdiately after being taken. But Aaron insisted on having Yang Yi et him as soon as he ca back.

“How do you feel?”

“Feel about what?”

“How do you feel after seeing Yarebin’s funeral?”

Gesturing for Yang Yi to sit down, Aaron couldn’t wait to ask Yang Yi about his feelings.

“Well, it felt very shocking. I completely didn’t expect Yarebin to receive the treatnt of a state funeral—an individual state funeral, no less.”

Aaron nodded and, after pondering for a mont, spoke to Yang Yi: “Did you personally take all those photos?”

“Yes, I took them directly with my phone.”

Aaron’s hand moved slightly, and he leaned forward toward Yang Yi before speaking in a low voice: “Then did you notice anything unusual about the funeral?”

“The entire funeral felt strange… Oh, I understand what you an.”

After thinking briefly, Yang Yi nodded and said: “The funeral had tight security but wasn’t kept secret. Yarebin’s grave is no longer a closely guarded secret. There’s now a tombstone. Moreover, Pu Qin not only attended the funeral but presided over it. That’s top-grade treatnt. In general, this feels like a funeral deliberately ant to be seen by the outside world.”

Ordinary people and spies live in different worlds, so ordinary people wouldn’t understand what happened, but spies all know what occurred.

Aaron picked up a photo and placed it by his side, tapping it lightly with his fingers as he pondered aloud: “The ‘Sacred Black Devil’—this label is quite interesting, especially since it’s difficult for to imagine that Pu Qin said it and added it himself.”

Yang Yi simply sat upright beside him. He was just an observer. If Aaron wanted to make any conclusions, he wouldn’t offer his own opinions unless Aaron specifically asked.

“What about the Black Devil?”

Aaron suddenly asked. Yang Yi thought for a mont before replying with a solemn expression: “If Yarebin hadn’t received the treatnt he deserved, they would have given Russia a lesson they’d never forget. These people miss the Soviet Union. They’ve accepted reality but don’t shy away from opposing it. If they decide to act, they truly could inflict imasurable damage on any country. But Yarebin received the best treatnt, so the Black Devil is satisfied. What they plan to do next, I don’t know. After Yarebin’s funeral, my contact with the Black Devil has been severed once again.”

“Then do you think Yarebin’s funeral was sothing Russia initiated proactively, or were they forced into it?”

“Proactively. It wasn’t a funeral held out of coercion or threats.”

“You attended the funeral, so do you think those conducting it genuinely respected Yarebin, or was it just a formality? An obligatory ritual that ends with no one rembering it afterward.”

Yang Yi replied without hesitation: “It was genuine. This wasn’t so perfunctory funeral. They truly respected Yarebin. With all due respect, sir, I also deeply respect Yarebin. Because this guy was just so formidable… Even though he’s already dead, I still subconsciously feel fear whenever I even think about cursing him.”

Aaron chuckled: “You’d dare curse him? That certainly would require courage.”

Taking a long breath, Aaron relaxed back into his chair before looking at Yang Yi with a calm expression: “From your perspective, give your conclusions about this funeral. What do you think its significance is?”

Yang Yi thought for a long ti and said: “From what I observed, this funeral was what Yarebin deserved. Even if it’s just because Yarebin didn’t continue opposing Russia, Russia owed him this funeral. Additionally, it feels more like a signal, though their ssage is sowhat strange. I’m quite puzzled—who are the Russians trying to send this signal to?”

“Go on.”

“Russia was demonstrating on the covert front. By giving an iconic individual the most grandiose treatnt, they’re showing their desire and confidence to return to the Soviet era. However, given Russia’s current predicant, the ssage seems to be that, even in their unfavorable situation, they will firmly hold their ground.”

Aaron exhaled and said: “War serves politics, and covert wars are no exception. Considering Russia’s unfavorable circumstances, this signal of theirs is very understandable.”

Aaron didn’t say much more to Yang Yi. After pondering for a while, he said to Yang Yi: “I have an important eting coming up, so I won’t talk too much with you today. You can go ho and rest for a while. I’ll contact you in the next few days if anything cos up.”

Yang Yi stood up and said softly: “Then I’ll take my leave for now, sir. I plan to head to New York.”

Aaron nodded and smiled at Yang Yi: “Your girlfriend is recovering well. Oh, spend more ti with her when you can. Also, try to help her keep her body active. She needs to maintain a positive mindset.”

Aaron seed quite concerned about Xiao Ran. Yang Yi nodded and said: “Thank you. I will take good care of her.”

Sighing, Aaron spread his hands and said: “I understand how you feel… But don’t neglect Petra either. Try to spend more ti with her. I know your situation and understand your feelings, but Petra is quite important to us right now.”

Yang Yi nodded and said: “Understood, sir.”

Aaron nodded again and suddenly said: “Oh, one more thing—the head of the Security Division, Walter, is looking for you. It’s about so trivial business matter, but I suspect he wants to discuss the distribution of arms profits.”

Yang Yi nodded and said: “Got it. I’ll go see him.”

Aaron said nonchalantly: “We’re all on the sa side; we can’t hog everything for ourselves. Sharing a bit of the profit is only fair. You decide how much to give them. Just make sure none of our brothers have any grievances.”

Having taken over Deyo Marcel’s arms dealings, naturally, Yang Yi needed to allocate the portion of profits Deyo used to give the CIA. Now, with Jethro’s arms business up and running smoothly, it was ti to divvy up the proceeds.

Of course, Yang Yi understood Walter’s true intention behind wanting to et him. His main task upon entering the CIA, after all, was investigating Aaron. Now it was ti to discuss his progress.

Walter wouldn’t et Yang Yi privately. Using official business as a pretext, but really eting for unofficial interests, suited the situation perfectly.

Yang Yi was now considering whether to sell Walter out. The main question was whether Aaron had already noticed the internal investigation within the CIA being conducted against him. After so thought, Yang Yi decided to wait a bit longer. It wasn’t ti yet to pledge loyalty to Aaron.
