Daily necessities like furniture, beds, wardrobes, tables, and chairs were also acquired.
Customizing curtains, curtains, chairs, and other items would take a few days but could be expedited with payment.
Shao Yunduan contemplated going out to explore the area, mingle with the locals, and learn more about Anze Prefecture City.
While Qiao Xuan and Shao Yunduan stayed in the room, Lixia and Liqiu knew precisely what to buy, leaving Songshi in charge of the rest.
They instructed Qing Yan to reserve a few tables of dishes from a nearby restaurant, to be delivered later when dinner time approached.
With the day drawing to a close, preparing a home-cooked meal would be impractical.
As Deputy Prefect Guan left the east courtyard, he maintained a smiling facade. However, upon entering the west courtyard where his family resided, the smile faded.
Inside the house, Mrs. Guan, munching on melon seeds, eagerly clapped her hands, demanding, “How was it? How was the Shao family?”
Deputy Prefect Guan chuckled, envisioning Shao Yunduan’s fatigued expression and the scrutinizing, disappointed glances. “Not much to report! I doubt they’ll last long here either. None of those officials seem like they can endure this place for an extended period!”
“That’s right,” Mrs. Guan sneered. “I heard he’s a young Primus, a scholar whose head is filled with lofty ideals. He’s pedantic and daydreams about romance all the time. How can someone like him endure the hardships? People of his kind won’t last long in our place!”
Growing more agitated, she continued, “In my opinion, you’ve endured this forsaken place for so many years. Even if you haven’t received proper recognition, you’ve worked hard. Moreover, you’ve made contributions! Without you, would this place have remained stable for so long? The position of the Prefect should have been rightfully yours a long time ago!”
“I don’t understand what the imperial court is thinking. These Prefects e and go like a revolving door, treating this place like a market. Yet, the imperial court keeps sending people one after another! Hmph, I want to see when the imperial court will wake up!”
“Only then will I know that you are the most suitable to be the Prefect!”
Hearing this, Deputy Prefect Guan felt a twinge of indignation. Another superior had arrived, and this immediate parison fueled his frustration.
Waving his hand dismissively, he said, “Enough, there’s no need for such talk. The Imperial Court has its own considerations! As for me, I’ll just focus on doing my job.”
