If Shao Yunduan were to achieve great success, they might have a chance to stand out as well. However, they were also apprehensive. If Shao Yunduan truly succeeded, it might overshadow their own son, making their situation appear less favorable.

They found themselves torn between hoping for Shao Yunduan’s success and fearing its implications for their family.

In early July, several unexpected visitors arrived in Hangzhou City, including an old acquaintance, Xie Jingrong, whom they hadn’t seen for a long ti.

Qiao Xuan and Shao Yunduan were delighted to reunite with Xie Jingrong, who had been traveling from the Northwest and had spent several months with Qi.

The reunion was a joyful occasion, but it also brought unexpected company: General Feng and General Zhao of the Northwest Army. Shao Yunduan was stunned by their presence.

General Feng was a key figure in the Northwest Army, known for his significant role in the region. His unexpected journey to the Fourth Prince’s and a portion of the Second Prince’s territories indicated that sothing extraordinary must have happened in the northwest.

Shao Yunduan’s imdiate concern was for the well-being of the Northwest.

His expression shifted as he asked urgently, "Is there a shortage of food in the northwest? Or is there another issue?"

General Feng and General Zhao exchanged glances, and a subtle smile appeared in Xie Jingrong’s eyes, clearly appreciating Shao Yunduan’s concern for the region.

"No," General Feng replied with a smile. "The Northwest Army is in good shape, and Qi is doing well. We’ve co to discuss so matters with Lord Shao. It’s important, but not urgent, so there’s no need to rush."

Shao Yunduan was visibly relieved to hear that Qi was also faring well. He nodded with a smile and welcod the news.

Given that General Feng and his party had traveled a long distance, there was no imdiate need to delve into business matters. After exchanging a few pleasantries, Shao Yunduan personally escorted them to their accommodations. Instead of putting them up in an inn, he arranged for them to stay in a specially prepared courtyard within the Shao Residence.

General Feng and his party preferred to keep a low profile, so there was no formal reception banquet. They inford the public only that they were friends of Shao Yunduan and Qiao Xuan and that a private reception at ho would suffice.

Since Xie Jingrong was well-acquainted with both parties, he acted as the interdiary. Shao Yunduan, still uncertain about the situation, needed to be briefed on the details.

Xie Jingrong, not resting after his long journey, went out to et with Shao Yunduan and Qiao Xuan. Their reunion after many years was warm and familiar, rekindling their close bond.

During their conversation, Xie Jingrong shared that he had traveled to the Western Region and had spent considerable ti in the northwest. His extended stay there was due to his return from the Western Region, which led him to remain in the northwest.

The northwest border had been unstable, and Xie Jingrong had played a role in assisting General Feng and the others with strategic ideas. His contributions were highly respected by them.

Shao Yunduan and Qiao Xuan were pleased to hear about Xie Jingrong’s successful efforts.

Soon, Xie Jingrong shifted the conversation to business matters. He revealed that he wasn’t the only one in the northwest—Minister Old Yun was also there.

Coincidentally, Minister Old Yun had traveled to the Western Region before Xie Jingrong. They had t by chance in a foreign land and later returned to the country together, remaining in the northwest.

Shao Yunduan was thrilled to hear about Minister Old Yun and inquired eagerly. Although he had never formally acknowledged Minister Old Yun as his ntor, the guidance and teachings from Minister Old Yun had been instruntal in his developnt. Without that enlightening influence, Shao Yunduan might not have achieved his current success.
