"Mada Qiao, please get off the carriage."
Qingyan dismounted from his horse and greeted them politely.
Mada Qiao took Qiao Wei’s hand. "Let’s go downstairs."
Qiao Wei, unwilling and resistant, bit her lip in frustration.
With the assistance of Auntie Ling and other maidservants, the mother and daughter disembarked from the carriage and followed Qingyan into the courtyard.

"Where is Madam?" Mada Qiao inquired. Even if Qiao Xuan did not co out personally, she should have sent a steward or maid to greet them. Why was it just a servant leading the way? And why did this place, which seed to be the backyard of the governnt office, feel so off?
Qingyan smiled. "Our Madam isn’t here. She is in the backyard of the governnt office. This is the inn where Officer Qiao is staying. I ca to guide you here since I knew you might not be familiar with the way."

Mada Qiao and Qiao Wei were taken aback.
Qiao Wei couldn’t help but sneer. "Do you realize that my father is Qiao Xuan’s father and my mother is her legitimate mother? Is this how she treats her parents? If this gets out, she’ll look utterly shaless!"
"Wei!" Mada Qiao scolded, casting a reproachful glance at her daughter. "I understand you’re frustrated, but there’s no need to lash out. Xuan is your sister, after all. It’s been a long ti since you’ve seen each other; she must not have ant to offend. You should be more understanding."
Reluctantly, Qiao Wei cald down and replied with evident displeasure, "I admit I’m a bit impatient and my words may have been harsh, but I didn’t an any harm. Still, what Third Sister is doing seems excessive. Who are you? Get soone to answer us right away! We’re family; how can we be put up in an inn? If word gets out, people will only criticize her for being cold and ungracious. I’m sure Madam Shao wouldn’t want that kind of reputation."
Mada Qiao smiled reassuringly. "Your sister must have so misunderstanding or lingering resentnt toward us. It’s not entirely her fault. Please go and tell her we have sothing important to discuss. It’s crucial for her to hear this, as it could have serious implications. Let’s make sure she listens to us. Go and fetch her now!"
