Chapter 2299: Arriving at Hangzhou City
Ms. Fang, Eldest Uncle, and the others finally arrived in Hangzhou City after the minor Chinese New Year.
The magistrate’s office in Hangzhou was much larger than the one in Huaixi province, providing ample space for the entire family to live comfortably.
Though Ms. Fang and the others were not used to city life, they spent most of their ti in a nearby village, engaging in farm work. Taotao and Zhao Shu would visit them occasionally or arrange etings at the magistrate’s office, making them feel much more at ease than before.
Ms. Fang had more servants around her, and Qiao Xuan had selected so experienced maids and stewards to ensure they weren’t taken advantage of during any banquets or parties.
After what happened in Anze Province, Eldest Uncle did not dare to cause trouble anymore. He just hoped soone reliable would accompany him whenever he went out. He was worried about losing face again if sothing similar occurred.
Ms. Fang’s straightforward nature annoyed him, as she didn’t spare his feelings at all. Moreover, he was genuinely fearful of his ignorance, knowing it could lead to serious consequences that might implicate his son.
The old woman was despicable, but the son was good.
If not for their son, they wouldn’t be where they were today.
Shao Yunduan and his family were having a great ti in Hangzhou during the New Year. Taking control of Jiangning and Hangzhou City was a significant achievent. It ant that Shao Yunduan had the authority to take over the region, and no one could look down on him anymore!
Hangzhou City had been under their control for a long ti, and Zhang Wenshu had managed everything well. The people were loyal, and the city was returning to normal and becoming prosperous. Shao Yunduan and Qiao Xuan discussed holding a lively Lantern Festival in the city this year to signify a new beginning.
Taotao and Zhao Shu did not spend the New Year with the Shao family.
Zhao Shu didn’t mind; he wasn’t particular and was actually quite willing to stay. However, soone from the Zhao clan brought a letter from the patriarch, inviting the couple back to pay respects to their ancestors for the New Year.
They had no choice but to go. Therefore, in mid-December, they bade farewell to the Shao family and headed to the Zhao family’s clan in Yangzhou.
When they arrived, Clan Leader Zhao, his wife, the elders, and countless clan mbers went outside the village to welco them. Everyone had bright smiles on their faces as they chatted and laughed. The children chased and played, creating a very lively atmosphere.
Zhao Shu and Taotao did not expect such a grand welco. Seeing the commotion, they were shocked and hurriedly got out of the car.
“They’re here! They’re finally here!”
Clan Leader Zhao and the others saw them too. The crowd was noisy and excited, rushing forward and instantly surrounding the two of them with smiles and greetings.
Zhao Shu and Taotao quickly responded. Zhao Shu protectively guided Taotao forward, first greeting the Clan Leader and the elders, who treated them with warmth and kindness.
Since it was cold outside, everyone hurried back to the Clan Leader’s house.
Noticing that Zhao Shu was unchanged and that Taotao showed no signs of holding a grudge, all the mbers of the Zhao family sighed in relief and beca very excited.
After Taotao married into the family, many clan mbers had been hostile to her and even deliberately found fault with her. The Clan Leader’s wife was one of them.
They had not cared about Shao Yunduan at all. So what if he was an official? The capital was so far away that they believed he could not control the South.
