Chapter 2260: Losing Favor

Otherwise, given his current mood, he would have reprimanded her long ago.

However, Consort Su lacked the awareness to recognize when to stop or how to read the room.

Since entering the palace, she had been accustod to the Emperor’s indulgence and favoritism. Whenever anything of value was brought to the palace, the Empress would select first, and then it would be Consort Su’s turn. Her treatnt was second only to the Empress herself.

Now, the Emperor wasn’t defending her and had even ordered her to leave with a stern expression! Consort Su felt profoundly wronged.

Accustod to pampering and devoid of fear, she imdiately protested, “Your Majesty, those pedantic Confucians slandered my father and uncles. Instead of defending them, you criticize ! Have you forgotten their sacrifices for you? Can you bear to see them suffer?”

“Silence!” The Third Prince’s face flushed with anger. His gaze hardened as he stared at Consort Su and coldly replied, “Aren’t your father and uncles my ministers? Isn’t their loyalty to expected? What are you implying? That I should be grateful to them?”

Consort Su was taken aback, her indignation swelling. “That’s not what I ant! They’re loyal to you, so you must protect them too! What use are those foolish scholars? Do you think they can conquer cities and seize lands for the Emperor? They slandered my father, and you won’t punish them?”

The Third Prince grimaced, feeling a deep-seated disgust. To think such a crude woman was his concubine. If he were to smoothly ascend the throne in the capital and rule the world, she wouldn’t even be fit to be the lowest palace maid.

He couldn’t bear to look at Consort Su any longer.

He decided not to say anything more.

He knew it would be pointless to explain anything to her; her mind couldn’t grasp it.

“I have my own plans. Your father and the other ministers have made their contributions, and so have others. If you don’t understand, refrain from making baseless remarks. The inner palace isn’t a place for political discussions, and ministers aren’t soone you can casually disrespect. Consort Su, since you’ve entered the palace, you should have learned the appropriate decorum expected of your status. Don’t break taboos with every word you speak!”

“You may leave!”

“But, Your Majesty—”

“Leave!”

Consort Su was taken aback by the Third Prince’s abrupt command, her face draining of color. Before she could react, she was swiftly escorted out of the hall by two young eunuchs.

Dazed, Consort Su stood on the porch, trying to collect herself.

She was bewildered. Why had the Emperor scolded her and dismissed her so harshly? He had always showered her with affection!

He used to laugh with her, call her amusing, and assure her she was unlike anyone else he knew. She had grown accustod to feeling special to him.

But now, as she replayed recent events in her mind, she sensed sothing was amiss, that she had misunderstood…

Consort Su was escorted back to her residence in a daze by the palace maids. Her heart felt heavy, and the more she dwelled on it, the more despondent she beca. Collapsing onto her bed, she couldn’t hold back tears of sorrow.

Outside the palace, her two brothers anxiously awaited her return, but she had completely forgotten about them.

The Su brothers grew increasingly anxious. They sent their attendants to the court to inquire about their sister’s progress in persuading the Emperor and to learn his thoughts, but access was denied to them.
