Chapter 2118: Lord Shao Is Here
Shao Yunduan’s irritation only deepened. As a representative of his parents, he was obligated to maintain decorum and not be overly petty. Yet, he harbored a fear that any mishap would ultimately be pinned on him, especially since he had publicly reprimanded Bai Ruirui out of frustration.
He hadn’t anticipated being drawn back into the orbit of this mother and daughter after such a long ti. However, given the involvent of Sun ng, intervention was now necessary.
Thankfully, his wife had insisted on accompanying him tonight, a decision that proved prescient.
With his wife by his side, navigating this situation beca significantly more manageable.
“Make way! Lord Shao is present! What’s the commotion?”
Hang Xingshan’s voice cut through the din, prompting Shao Yunduan and Qiao Xuan to step forward.
The crowd buzzed with anticipation. Fan Ruyin and Bai Ruirui ceased their bickering, all eyes turning towards Shao Yunduan.
“Lord Shao has arrived!”
“Thank goodness for Lord Shao’s presence. Everything will be resolved now.”
“Yes, Lord Shao will ensure justice is served.”
“I hate to say it, but these individuals are utterly brazen! Who does that supposed ‘general’ think he is…”
“Exactly! He’s no match for Lord Shao!”
The chatter among the commoners was anything but discreet. Fragnts of their conversation reached Sun ng and the others, fueling their indignation.
Sun ng, in particular, seethed with fury. He ntally noted Shao Yunduan’s behavior and regarded him with hostility and disdain.
This sly official was adept at currying favor with the people! Clearly, he had ulterior motives. But so what?
No matter his ambitions, he would ultimately kneel before the Emperor’s authority! A Prefect’s Lord was as insignificant as a minnow before the Emperor’s True Dragon.
Was he supposed to cower before him?
Sun ng vowed to witness his downfall firsthand.
It also exposed the true character of their Prefect to the simple folk of Anze Province.
Sun ng’s anger and envy surged when he noticed Bai Ruirui’s bashfulness upon encountering Shao Yunduan.
The mont Bai Ruirui laid eyes on Shao Yunduan, she found herself unable to look away, her heart racing.
Lord Shao appeared even more refined and noble than before. Truly befitting of soone destined for great fortune…
Having been separated from Lord Shao for so long, she longed for him every day. She had transford completely since they last t. Surely Lord Shao would notice her change and be impressed, wouldn’t he?
All her efforts were for him…
Fan Ruyin’s eyes sparkled with anticipation too.
“Lord Shao, we beseech you! You must ensure justice prevails! Where did these scoundrels co from? How dare they defile Anze Province under your governance? How dare they!”
“Greetings, Lord. We await your decision,” the mother and daughter chid, rushing forward to bow before Shao Yunduan, their admiration evident.
Qiao Xuan couldn’t help but shoot them a sidelong glance, her brow furrowing slightly. There was sothing off about the way the mother and daughter were behaving towards her husband.
Sun ng’s jealousy flared hotter than ever, fueled by resentnt. “Adding fuel to the fire,” he muttered under his breath, crossing his arms and casting a disdainful glance at Shao Yunduan. With a sneer, he spoke up, “Ah, how fortunate we are to have you here. I seem to have inadvertently offended this lady earlier, and I am prepared to accept the consequences.”
