Chapter 2110: Killed an Idiot

Qiao Xuan harbored a secret sense of triumph, relishing in her accomplishnt. She knew precisely which “idiot” her husband referred to, and she took pride in her handiwork.

Beaming, she inquired with feigned innocence, “Oh, is that so? Well, then it must be a fortunate turn of events, shouldn’t it?”

Her disdain for Constable Li was palpable, and she had seized the opportunity to impart a lesson to him then and there.

Shao Yunduan echoed her sentint with a smile, “Indeed, it’s a stroke of good fortune! Providence has intervened.”

With one of the troubleso individuals now incapacitated, courtesy of what seed like divine intervention, half of their worries dissipated. How could that not be cause for celebration?

Furthermore, the individual in question bore grudges and harbored resentnts, making his misfortune even sweeter.

“Ah, indeed, indeed!” Qiao Xuan’s smile widened even further, her relief palpable as she realized her husband hadn’t taken any undue asures out of goodwill.

“You’re absolutely right. The heavens have a way of balancing things out.”

The couple exchanged smiles, sharing a silent understanding.

Constable Li attempted to move, but the outco proved less than favorable.

An ankle sprain and a fractured bone were no trivial matters. Without proper recuperation, the risk of permanent disability lood large. The prospect of being rendered la filled Constable Li with dread, sealing his resolve to endure his frustration and focus on recovery.

In his anguish, he vowed to Sun ng that Shao Yunduan must have orchestrated the incident.

Despite lacking concrete evidence implicating the Anze Province delegation, Constable Li reasoned that their cunning and malevolent nature were evident in the unfortunate turn of events.

Such insidious behavior reinforced his conviction. Though devoid of tangible proof, Sun ng readily embraced the accusations, fueled by mories of Shao Yunduan’s past actions.

During their ti in the capital, Lord Shao had cultivated a reputation for ruthlessness, instilling fear in the hearts of both the Emperor and his cohorts.

Given Shao Yunduan’s formidable character, it stood to reason that his thods of inflicting harm were beyond their comprehension.

For Sun ng and his ilk, such complexities were irrelevant. Their conviction remained steadfast: Shao Yunduan was a malign presence, and that knowledge sufficed.

Sun ng’s patience wore thin with each passing mont in Anze Province. Eager to bring Shao Yunduan and his entourage to his master’s attention, he urged for imdiate action.

Constable Li, still nursing his grudge, seized the opportunity to press his own grievances. “General, why not add another feather to your cap while you’re here? Anze Province boasts abundant harvests year after year, yet when our Lord sought to collect taxes, Shao Yunduan withheld them under the guise of secrecy. Why hoard so much food in such a small province? Surely, there’s more to his intentions than ets the eye!”

Sun ng’s expression darkened at the revelation. “This demands further investigation. Spare no detail.”

Food reserves were paramount, especially in tis of scarcity. For the Emperor and his generals, weapons and sustenance were indispensable commodities. A shortfall in either could prove disastrous.

Despite holding important positions as clan guards, their statuses had significantly diminished since their arrival.

Yet, within the ranks of family guards, competition thrived.

Whose favor would wane in the eyes of their master, and who would ascend to greater trust and esteem? Over the past year, subtle indicators had begun to erge, hinting at their respective trajectories.

Sun ng, however, aid for more.

The prospect of resolving even a portion of the food shortage presented an enticing opportunity for rit and advancent. It could propel him to greater heights within his master’s esteem.

Constable Li’s words stirred a desire within Sun ng. How could he resist such a tantalizing prospect?

In his eagerness, Constable Li embellished the situation, magnifying the importance of his mission to procure provisions. And in doing so, he unwittingly stoked Sun ng’s ambition even further.
